Vision & Strategic Directions

• Vision: Directed to Chemical, Materials,
Thermal Processing, & Biotechnology
• Strategic Directions:
• Nano-scale control of synthesis and processing of
functional materials (e.g. drugs, catalysts, electronic
materials, separation membranes, adsorption media)
• Reduction of toxic chemicals & industrial pollution at
the source (partner with EPA)
• More efficient & environmentally friendly energy
sources & alternate fuels (partner with DOE)
Some Suggestions about the
Workshop
• Development of grand challenges
– Clear identification of existing
knowledge
– Carving knowledge gaps
– Recognition of missions of various
agencies supporting fuel cell research
– Identification of future research topics
