Do you have enough food to last you in case of an emergency, such as a winter storm, or a loss of a job and you can't buy food and water? Do you have "bug-out" preparations in case you must leave your home because of a flood? My message is mostly for those in my family. All of you know how our grandmother taught us the value of being prepared for anything that comes our way. I'll never forget how every spring, when it was time for Grandma and Grandpa to go to Baldwinsville, NY for the planting season. Who knows how long it took them to "prepare" for it, but I know they were gone pretty much from sun up until dinner time (right before sun-down). Sometimes I would have to go with them just to get out of the house. I tried my hand at planting a few things, and pulling weeds, but for some reason, I wasn't cut out for that. But that's another story. Then came the harvest. Green beans, tomatoes, squash of nearly all kinds, peas, pumpkin, potatoes, corn & a host of other great vegetables. You name it, we probably tried it. I think one year Grandpa planted chick peas (garbanzo beans). I remember during the summer months when green beans or peas were harvested, we'd have our own "harvest party." That's when a few people would come to our house and we would snap beans and prepare the peas, and get them ready for canning and/or freezing. We'd have a lot of fun, especially when our dear friend Noel G. would come and stay with us for a few days after Camp Hunt was done for the summer. And who could forget the tomatoes? Oh, the tomatoes (heirloom & beefsteak) were soo yummy!! They made the best BLT's or the basic toasted tomato sandwiches. Grandma also made delicious tomato sauce and put up (canned) enough for two-three years. And what she didn't rotate out, she'd give away to church friends and family. Okay, I rambled on a bit, but please bear with me. I sometimes have to share a lot before I get to the point. So, here is what I'm talking about:
For the past few months, I've been storing up freeze-dried & dehydrated food because I just can't afford to go out every single month to buy a lot of fresh food. Just having enough basic staples in the house gives me some peace of mind, knowing that I have something to eat. Now, I know that some people would think of this as hoarding, but it's really not about that. The fact is, when the US Dollar collapses (AND IT WILL COLLAPSE!!), it will take a 'wheel-barrel" full of money to buy your basics such as a loaf of bread or milk. Who else are you going to turn to for your food - the government?? Hahaha! Just knowing how the Obama administration is handling the budget (what budget?) right now is an example I certainly do not want to follow. From my own personal experience, I've been down that route, and it leads to nothing but a dead-end street. By the way, I'm not crazy! To those of you who may think otherwise, you know deep down that I am telling the truth. Grandma always claimed that "Japan threatened to take us over from within." Although I don't think she meant it from a literal sense that it would be Japan. What I took from her words was that someday, our country would be so politically divided that most of us would gladly run to the government for total control of our lives. And that is exactly what is happening. Don't forget that nearly all of our manufacturing and food commodities are being imported. Many of our farmers are held hostage because of subsidies. Some stopped farming
