Shadowed the shows producer and learned what it took to get the show on air. Helped edit transcripts for content and promoted the show using social media. Actual Innocence Clinic Spring 2012: Worked with law school faculty to screen actual innocence claims from Texas inmates. Wrote stories examining the states criminal justice system. The Daily Texan Spring 2010 - Fall 2011: Held several key leadership positions, including news editor and managing editor. Read every story in the paper before it printed. Oversaw a staff of about 150 people. Helped control content by finding story assignments. Fall 2008 - Fall 2009: Wrote general assignment news, sports and entertainment stories. Promoted to senior reporter and covered the UT administration/Board of Regents beat. Published a minimum of three stories per week and learned how to develop and maintain sources. China in Focus Summer 2011: Took an intensive four week foreign correspondents workshop in Beijing and Shanghai. Created content for Worked with interpreters and reported in challenging situations. Star Community Newspapers Summer 2010: As an intern, held the responsibilities of a full-time reporter and turned in at least two stories per week. Covered community events, city council and school board meetings. Responsible for taking photos to go along with stories. Research Assistant Spring - Fall 2011: Conducted interviews and transcribed notes for Michael Brick, a New York Times reporter writing a book about a high school in East Austin. Bachelor of Journalism from The University of Texas at Austin Multimedia: Completed an advanced multimedia course that focused on visual storytelling by combining video, audio and interactive elements. Also emphasized new ways to incorporate social media into journalism. Writing: Took a series of writing intensive courses, which exposed me to a wide range of stories. Comfortable with hard news, enterprise and feature writing. Editing: Worked closely with veteran journalism professors to improve my stories. Fall 2011: The Daily Texan voted Best Local Non-Chronicle Publication by Austin Chronicle readers while I worked as managing editor. Fall 2010 and Fall 2011: Received a total of $3,500 from the Headliners Foundation of Texas, which awards money to promising journalism students.
