Essential steps for securing your place at RMIT for 2012
To secure your place in an RMIT program you need to enrol into courses (subjects). Use this guide to enrol at RMIT University. It provides comprehensive instructions including screenshots of Enrolment Online. If you attend a program information session please bring this guide with you.

Terminology At RMIT University you will notice references to courses and programs. A course is a component (subject) within an RMIT program. For example, the course Macroeconomics 1 forms part of the Bachelor of Business (International Business) program. Other terminology related to your enrolment:

Enrolment program structureoutlines the full structure of your program and

provides details of the classes offered each semester of the current academic year and the requirements to complete the program. regarding your programs structure to assist you with your enrolment. Details of a scheduled program information session will be advertised in your offer/enrolment notification letter or within your enrolment program structure. If there is no program information session for your program you should view your enrolment program structure and contact your school if you have any queries about what to enrol into.

Before you start


Seek academic advice at your program information session, as listed in your offer or enrolment letter. If there is no program information session listed, view your enrolment program structure and please contact your school if you need more information. To enrol online successfully you will need: 1. Your offer or enrolment letter (listing your student/application number and program code) 2. Your enrolment program structure available at www.rmit.edu.au/ students/enrolment or advice from your school about the courses/ classes you must enrol into 3. Your Tax File Number (if you are accessing Commonwealth assistance) 4. Evidence of your citizenship or immigration status (e.g. passport, citizenship certificate, birth certificate local students only) 5. How to log in
To begin go to myRMIT at www.rmit.edu.au/myrmit

in the top right corner. Select the Help icon for instructions or further information.

If you are logging on to an RMIT computer on campus


1. Turn on the workstation and wait for it to load 2. Press Ctrl + Alt + Del when prompted 3. A login window will appear 4. Enter your RMIT ID (username) and password (refer below for explanation) 5. Select OK

You need to log in using your RMIT ID and password. Your RMIT ID and password To access RMIT Universitys IT systems, including myRMIT, you need to log in to the network with your RMIT ID and password. RMIT ID Your RMIT ID is the letter s followed by your student number. For example, if your student number is 3001234 then your RMIT ID is s3001234. Initial password Your initial RMIT password is the letter p followed by your date of birth backwards in the format YYYYMMDD. For example, if you were born on 8 April 1991, your password is p19910408. Changing your password You must change your initial password after your first login and establish a challenge question, in case you forget your password. You will be prompted to change your password every 180 days. For further information go to www.rmit.edu.au/its/password Students are required to adhere to the policies and regulations governing the use and delivery of IT services at RMIT University. Under no circumstances should you give your login details to another person (or proxy) to enrol online on your behalf or access RMITs IT systems.

Once you have logged into myRMIT, select the Enrolment Online link.

Welcome
After clicking on Enrolment Online you will see the Welcome page. Make a note of the Session ID number that appears in the top right of the screen each time you login you may need this if you require assistance.

RMIT is upgrading its enrolment system in 2012 after Semester 1 enrolment.

Checklist
Before you enrol you must complete the Enrolment Checklist in sequence. There are eight steps in total. You will see a message alerting you to outstanding Enrolment Checklist/s. To begin click on the Checklist button and then click on the Start button in the Action column. If you have more than one outstanding checklist, ensure that you complete both (e.g. if you are active in more than one program a TAFE and higher education program concurrently).

Step 1 Privacy and responsibilities


This page lists RMITs Privacy statement and Statement of student responsibilities. Carefully read both statements. When you click the I Agree button, you are agreeing to all requirements listed in the Statement of student responsibilities. You are also acknowledging that RMIT University reserves the right to cancel or amend your enrolment if you do not adhere to these requirements.

Step 2 Verify academic programs


This page lists the program/s for which you have received an offer, or your current active program/s for enrolment. If this information is not correct, you should not proceed. Please telephone the Student Administration Support Line on +61 3 9925 8980 for assistance during business hours. If the information is correct, click the Correct button.

Step 3 View personal information


This page lists your recorded name, date of birth, gender, and citizenship/immigration status. Local students are required to enter details of your citizenship/immigration status here. Providing this declaration is a part of the eligibility criteria for a Commonwealth supported loan or Commonwealth learning scholarship (if applicable) at RMIT and enables you to receive a student card.

Step 4 Maintain addresses


This page lists your current address/es. The University will use these addresses, particularly your mailing address, to send you important information. Select the Update button to amend one or more addresses, or click the Add button to add a new address type (e.g. business or workplace addresses). Note that an Australian residence address is required for all onshore international students. If you make any changes, click Save. Click Continue.

If this information is incorrect or incomplete, please update it as soon as possible. You cannot change your name, citizenship/immigration status, gender or date of birth on Enrolment Online. To change any of these details, you must complete the Change of personal information form or Change of citizenship/immigration status form available at the Hub or at www.rmit.edu.au/students/forms Meanwhile you can proceed with your enrolment. Click the Continue button.

Step 5 Maintain telephone numbers


This page lists your current telephone numbers. Check the details and update/add. Click Continue.

and the announcements in myRMIT at www.rmit.edu.au/myrmit for important communications about the administration of your program, your enrolment, census dates, fees, administrative deadlines, etc.

Your first entry should be your preferred primary contactplease ensure you tick the Primary Contact box at the bottom of the Add Emergency Contact screen. When all details are correct, click the Continue button.

Step 6 Verify email


This page lists your authorised RMIT student email address. As you agreed in the Statement of student responsibilities, at least twice a week you must check your RMIT student email account

Step 7 Maintain emergency contacts


You are required to provide details of at least one close relative or friend in case of an emergency. It is essential that this information is accurate. Check the details and update/add.

Step 8 Statistics
RMIT is required to collect statistical information to comply with Federal and State government reporting requirements. TAFE students should enter your Victorian Student Number (if known) into the allocated field. If you are a TAFE student and do not know your Victorian Student Number, please leave the field blank and continue your enrolment. When you have answered each question click the checkbox in the Certification Statement section, then select Save. If you need to change any of your answers, select Update, amend your response, then select Save. Select Continue when finished. When you have completed the checklist, you will see the Enrolment Message. Carefully read it then click Continue. Note: You are not yet enrolled. To secure your place you need to select your courses for Semester 1 and 2 (all semesters/terms).

If you are a TAFE student you will see:

CHESSN
If you are required to complete a CHESSN form it will appear on your screen.

If you are a higher education student you will see:

RMIT is required to collect information to allocate a CHESSN (Commonwealth Higher Education Student Support Number) to students who have a Commonwealth supported place (CSP) or are seeking Commonwealth assistance. The CHESSN is used by RMIT and the Australian Government to calculate and monitor your:

When you have answered all questions, click Save.

Enrol
You are now ready to select and enrol in courses for your program. Until you have enrolled in at least one course per semester, a Not Enrolled banner will scroll across the screen. Most students are required to enrol in Semester 1 and 2 in a given year. However, if this does not apply to you or your program, please ignore this banner.

If you have received more than one

Enrolment summary
This screen shows your program and the semesters/terms in which you are able to enrol. The program code and title are linked to your enrolment program structure. If you click on your program a new window will open that you can refer to as you enrol. If you are eligible for Commonwealth assistance you should complete the appropriate form online. See page 7. Select the semester/term you would like to enrol in and click Continue.

Commonwealth assistance

This section applies only to government funded students or domestic full-fee students seeking Commonwealth assistance. If this does not apply to you or you are an international student, please go to page 9.

eCAF request for Commonwealth support and HECS-HELP

If you are not enrolling in a higher education Commonwealth supported place (CSP), you will not see this screen and do not need to complete this section. Please go to eCAF (Request for FEE-HELP and VET FEE-HELP assistance) to complete your enrolment. If you hold a CSP, you will be required to complete an eCAF (electronic Commonwealth Assistance Form). This form is a legal document and it requires you to declare that you are aware of your obligations as a CSP student. It also allows eligible students to indicate your preferred payment option for your student contribution, for example, full up-front payment or HECS-HELP loan for all or part of your student contribution. You must read the Information for Commonwealth supported students booklet before submitting the form. You can access this booklet by clicking on the link at the top of the page. Once you have read the booklet complete the pink form and click Submit.

Do you want to apply for FEE-HELP or VET FEE-HELP? H T


eCAF request for FEE-HELP assistance

Note: If you do not want FEE-HELP assistance, proceed with your enrolment as detailed on page 9. If you hold a local full-fee place and meet the eligibility criteria, you may choose to apply for Commonwealth assistance through a FEE-HELP (higher education full-fee students) or a VET FEE-HELP (TAFE students in Skills Deepening programs) loan for all or part of your tuition fees.

If you meet the eligibility criteria and would like to apply for FEE-HELP or VET FEE-HELP assistance, you will be required to complete an eCAF (electronic Request for FEE-HELP or VET FEE-HELP Assistance form). There are two ways to access the eCAF when enrolling. You can click on eCAF at the left of the screen under the heading Government Requirements, or you can follow the flags from the enrolment screen.

This form is a legal document that requires you to declare that you are aware of your legal obligation to the Commonwealth in relation to the repayment of your FEE-HELP debt. Before filling out the form it is important that you have read the Information booklet about your particular Commonwealth assistance. This is available from a link at the top of the page. A pop up box will appear with a PDF of the booklet that you can print.

When you have answered all questions applicable to you, click Submit. If you have submitted the form successfully you will be taken to this page. When you have completed the eCAF you can continue with your enrolment as detailed on page 9. You will be notified by email to your RMIT student email account if your application is successful. Your approval letter will appear here for you to print.

Enrolment
There are tabs across the top of this screen:

Enrolmentdisplays your current enrolment details (courses will be visible after you have enrolled for that semester/term). Request pendingdisplays the courses you have selected, but not yet enrolled in. You can add or remove courses in this tab. Programdisplays a list of the required courses for your program. Select the courses that you would like to enrol in from
this list. These course selections will then appear in the Request Pending tab, ready to be submitted for enrolment.

TAFE students should refer to the TAFE section of this guide for more information on class group selections page 12. Class search (Higher education students only)This allows you to search for an elective that is outside of your program or offered by another school/college. Refer to page 13 for more information.

You can move to another tab in any sequence during the enrolment process. Click the Add button nextthis will take you to the Program tab to continue enrolling.

If you are a TAFE student you will see:

This shows the structure of your program. The information displayed should also reflect what is shown in your enrolment program structure. Select the relevant requirement option e.g. Year one of program, Core, Electives etc. Click on Show to see the available courses within that requirement and semester/term.

This screen lists the course details such as Class number, Units of Credit, Location (campus), CAT No. (Catalogue Number) and Mode e.g. Face-to-Face or Internet. TAFE students will also see a section column on the Program screen. See page 12 for more information.

Click on the course name to view details about that course. Select the course you want to enrol in by clicking the box in the Add column. You will see a tick appear in that box. When you have selected all courses, click any one of the Add buttons, to save your selection into the Request Pending tab.

This screen shows your course selections you are not currently enrolled in classes that are displayed in this screen. If no courses are visible, or to add more courses, click on the Program tab at the top of this screen to continue. To remove a selected course, click the box under the Action column, then click Remove Class. When you have completed your course selections, click Submit Enrolment. Your enrolment details will appear on the Enrolment screen. Higher education students can also add courses by entering the relevant class number (refer to your enrolment program structure for details) in the Add Class Number box. Click the Add button next to the box to add the course to your selection. The Add Class Number is another way to add courses (you wont be able to add some electives in the Program screen).

Continue to add and drop courses until you have enrolled in all your courses for semester/term 1. When you have completed your course selections, click Submit Enrolment. Your enrolment details will appear on the Enrolment screen. Click on the Change Semester button to go back to the Enrolment Summary screen where you can select the next semester/term and add courses using the same process. Once you have enrolled in courses for each semester/term your enrolment will be complete for that year.

Enrolment tab
This screen displays the courses in your current enrolment. To drop a course, click the Drop button next to each course. Note: You cannot cancel your enrolment or drop your last course via Enrolment Online. To add more courses, click on the Add button or go directly to the Program tab and select courses. Click the Change Semester button to continue with course selections for the next semester/term.

TAFE course selectionenrol into your group/section


Groups/sections are often used to allocate students to a specific timetable. Your school will tell you the code for the group/ section that you should enrol in at your program information sessionif you are unable to attend you should contact your school as soon as possible. If you need to enrol in courses with a different group/section code then you should discuss this with your school. Make sure the catalogue number (CAT no.) is different for each course you select as you cannot enrol in the same course more than once.

Enrol in classes for a specific TAFE group/section:


When you are in the Program tab, either:

enter your group/section code in

the box beside Only Show Section (e.g. Section AD1A in the example). Then click Show to view only the classes for the group/section of your program. If there is a second row with another Show button you will need to click on this to show the courses in the other portion of your program.

or:

click Show to display all courses for

that portion of your program, including all groups/sections. Select the courses for your group/section (e.g. Section AD1A in the example).

Click on the boxes under the Add column to select the classes for your group/section. Click the Add button to add the classes to your selection. You will then be returned to the Request Pending tab (see page 11).

Higher educationclass search


In addition to listed courses in the program, higher education students can use the Class Search function to add courses. This allows you to search by class number, course title and campus, or by keyword. For example, if you want to enrol in an Accounting course but you cant remember the course name or course code, you can search for the course by choosing ACCT Accounting from the Subject Area drop-down list or by entering a keyword, such as Accounting, in the Course Title space. To search for classes, click the Class Search tab at the top of the screen.

Confirmation of enrolment
You can print an unofficial statement of your enrolment at any time by selecting the print icon on the Enrolment page. If you need an official Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) document, e.g. for Centrelink requirements, you can download this PDF the day after you enrol by clicking on the menu item on the left of the Enrolment Online screen. When you access your official CoE you will be asked for a password. This is your RMIT ID (username) i.e. s followed by your student number. Note: This is not the CoE that international students need for visa purposes. For details about CoEs for visa purposes, refer to www.rmit.edu.au/programs/ international/visa_renewal

You are now enrolled at RMIT


Your tuition fees
Once you have added a class to your enrolment, you are enrolled as a student at RMIT University. You are liable for tuition fees for each class you are enrolled in.

Cancel your enrolment


If you do not intend to study at RMIT in 2011, it is your responsibility to submit a Cancellation of enrolment form to the Hub on your campus. This form must be received and stamped prior to the relevant census date in each semester/term to avoid financial and/or academic penalties. This form is available from www.rmit.edu.au/students/forms

Note: If you do not cancel your enrolment at RMIT University in writing before the relevant census date you will remain liable for tuition fees and will receive fail grades.

If you receive an offer from another institution and/or you no longer wish to be enrolled at RMIT University it is your responsibility to either cancel your enrolment or take a leave of absence by the relevant census date for each class you have enrolled in.

If you have completed your enrolment you can exit Enrolment Online by selecting Logout at the top right of the screen. Your Session ID number is displayed with a summary of your enrolment. Please review your enrolment details to confirm your current enrolment.

To amend your enrolment later you can use the Add or Drop function until the relevant cut off date for adding and/or dropping courses in each semester/term. For the last day to add and drop classes go to www.rmit.edu.au/ students/importantdates The last day to drop a class from your enrolment is the class census date. For more information go to www.rmit. edu.au/students/tafecensusdates or www.rmit.edu.au/students/hecensus dates Your Confirmation of Enrolment will show the census date that is relevant to each of the courses in which you are enrolled. Check with your RMIT school to confirm the census dates for summer and spring courses. Note: You cannot cancel your enrolment or drop your last course via Enrolment Online. If you wish to cancel your enrolment, see page 13.

Create your timetable


Most undergraduate and postgraduate students can timetable classes online using the Student Timetabling System (STS). To see if your courses are included in STS go to www.rmit.edu.au/students/timetables/he

H Higher education class timetabling


After you enrol into courses you need to create your class timetable using the Student Timetabling System (STS). You can do this after the timetable release date for each college. Timetable release dates for Semester 1 are: You can create or change your timetable until Friday 16 March 2012, but remember that the last day to add a new course to your enrolment for Semester 1 is Friday 9 March 2012. Note that not all higher education courses are available in STS. If your course is not available, please contact your school for timetable information. If you need to timetable a class run by another college, the timetable release date for that college will apply.
