intended to Each group will create a booklet representing some of the countries of the continent they have research. All the booklets will be displayed in the class library. I will have a question and answer section after all the groups are finishing presenting. I will complete a KWL chart and use that to determine how much they have learned.

FLOW CHART:
Using the library Internet research Students will divided into six groups representing six continents that are populated.

Theme: Around the world to seven Continents Product: Students will do a power point presentation of the continent they research Students will print out their power point and turn it into a booklet. Learning Objective: Students will demonstrate knowledge about the seven continents and countries around the world

Reading maps
Print books
Analyzing information to report

Theme work
Exploring technology use

Each group will research four countries or states from that continent

Each group will do a Power Point presentation and create a booklet

Component #4 Defend project as a project-based Each group gets the opportunity to choose the countries that they want to research. I will suggest some of the information and facts the students can include in the report but the students decide on what information they think is important. The groups will choose various different sources to use such internet, world atlas, national geography explorer magazines and encyclopedia to get information. They will demonstrate the wealth of information that they will learn through the detail power point presentation and the booklet they will put together. I will divide up the students into six groups. Each student will equally contribute to the group assignment. There will be one grade assign to the entire group, so each group member has to make sure the other students are doing their part. With guidance from the teacher, each group will decide how they will organize their groups.
Students will be informed that they will be creating a power point and a booklet with the information that they will be researching. Some of the students will already know how to use power point and they will help the other students in the group with learning to use this software. They will have to search and verifies that the information they found are factual before they use it.

Each group will be making a booklet with all the information and facts they found about the continents and the countries within that continent. This book is an authentic book with factual information that will be displayed in the classroom for other students, the teacher and others to view. This book will be a part of the class library.

While working on both the power point and the booklet, students will be getting feedback from each other in the groups. Other people who will view the booklet will also have the opportunity to give feedback to the students about their work. The evaluation receive from others will help them with similar future projects. Students will save their power point on a flash drive and have it readily available to show others. As mention before the students booklet will be display in the classroom library. Each group booklet will be design by the students in any style that is appropriate. The students will be using the internet to research information and they will use the classroom projector as a part of their power point presentation. Some of the students have never use power point and this will be a new way of displaying what they have learned. Making the booklet is a great way for them to show creativity. The students will research the continent and the countries, they will gather all the important facts that they will put in their presentations. They will decide on how to divide up the workload and the assignment. Team work is a big part of this assignment and they have to work together as a group to get the project complete. Everyone will have an opportunity to share his or her idea about the information to involve in the project. Focus question: How can we travel to the seven continents without leaving our classroom or school?

Component # 5 Lesson Plan Theme: Around the world to seven continents. New York State Learning Standards: Social studies: Standard 3- Geography The Arts: Standard 1- Creating and performing in the arts
Standard 2: Knowing and Using Arts Materials and Resources

Technology: Standard 5: Computer Technology Unit Objectives: Students will learn the name of the seven continents Students will learn the geographical location of each continent Students will accurately identify at least four countries from each continent Students will be to give at least five facts about each country studied Students will develop map skills

Materials: computers, flash drive, library, maps, books, printer and atlas Day 1: Aim: How can I learn about the continents without the teacher reading about them from the textbook? (5 min) Motivation: For the next four classes, we are going to travel around the world to seven continents and we will be stopping at six of the continents. We will be stopping at four countries from five of the continents and stopping at four states from the one of the continent. Procedure: (25 mins)

We are going to do a group project to study the continents and this project will be fun, exciting and you will learn plenty of information and facts about the continents. First I want to do a brief review of what you remember about the continents. What are the names of the seven continents? On what continent is the country of Iran located? What continent can you find the Mount Rushmore? What continent only has one country? What continent is the smallest in land size? What two continents share the country of Turkey? What continent is Guyana located in? What continent has the two most populated countries? (15mins) Once the questions are asked and discussed, I will put together a KWL chart with students. (45 mins) Assign students to their group and show sample 1. Next students will be assigned to their groups and they will be informed of what continent they will be researching. 2. The project will be explained to the groups in full detail. I will start out by telling them for this project, they will be using the school library and all the available resources in the library such as the computer, the books, magazines, maps, etc. 3. Student will be shown the sample of the booklet that I have created. 4. Start the PowerPoint and show it to them. 5. Next inform students that they will create their own PowerPoint and booklet as a final product of what they will learn about the continents 6. Each group will research a continent and four countries from that continent 7. The group researching Australia will research about four states from that region 8. You will make a PowerPoint similar to the one that I have shown you and you will also print out a copy of the PowerPoint and staple it together and make a booklet 9. You will make a creative cover page for your booklet

10. You will create five slides, one with the name and the continent and a graphic representation of that continent. The other four will be for each country or states 11. I will need at least pieces of information about each country on the each slide. 12. I will need to see a flag or a picture to represent that country 13. This is a group assignment and everyone will need to participate 14. The next two social studies will be held in the library for you to utilize for your project 15. Students will know what continent they will be researching and the sources that they will be using Assessment: Students will verbally give the teacher a summary of what their assignment is

Day 2: Library (1.5 hours) AIM: How can we present to others what we learned about the continents without reading it to them from my notes? Students will sit in their assign group in the library to begin their research Each group will be assigned to two computers Students will brain for few minutes about how to proceed with their project Students will decide on what countries they want to research The librarian will be available for lend students materials needed I will be circulating all the groups making sure everyone is participating and has a support 7. Each group by the end of the first forty five minutes should decide on what countries to research and have at least two sources ready to use 8. By the end of the second session all the groups should have facts about the continent and the four countries they choose 9. They will save their work to Microsoft word and to a flash drive Assessment: Students will verbally give teacher the name of four countries or four states from their continent they are researching.
