To: Khanna, Paul Subject: RE: Oil sands brochure Just got out of a meeting with your OM where this came up and we agreed with adding insitu pictures. Here are a couple of aerial project views and a Petrobank THAI diagram and project shot. We have been given permission to use them in our documents and if you like them, I am sure we can get permission for you too.

To: Khanna, Paul; Rodrigues, Stephen; Griggs, Martyn Cc: Cliffe, Kevin; Birn, Kevin Subject: RE: Oil sands brochure for the G8 - Version 3 It's a good piece alright ... however we will get you pictures of insitu as we feel it really continues to portray the mining only in the visuals. The current 2009 oil sands investment is $10 billion but we will look at our recent survey to give you a little longer term view. I like the visual on density comparisons and will have someone here look at it in more detail, but it seems like a mix of production (out of the ground) and supply (into the pipe) as the Canadian bitumen is heavier than shown out of the ground or the Venezuelan crude is likely lighter (blended) going into the pipe (i.e. comparable to dilbit) or it wouldn't flow in a pipe?? To be accurate they all should either be production (out of the ground density) or supply (into the pipe density). Given the recent California experience on LCFS, I'd suggest adding California to the chart (Bakersfield heavy as the heavy point comparable to

Canada). The new CAPP oil production forecast will be out next week, and it will be lower by about 400,000 bbl/day in the later years, so we would ask if you could include it in the final "published" version (and it goes out to 2025).

Regarding the brochure - apparently our DM liked the document very much so we have the go ahead to make this an official NRCan publication. I would like to make some changes in that I agree the pictures are too mining focused and would appreciate any suitable in situ images that you could provide, especially for the top banner. In addition, I would appreciate your views on a more current dollar figure for oil sands investment - this could be written in any way you see fit, i.e. a single estimate or range to a future year. Finally, I would appreciate your views on the density range of crude blends we supplied in the brochure. This was designed to show that bitumen is not shipped as is but is either blended or upgraded and these blends are in line with the ranges from other countries. This is the first time we have used this chart so your views on this in particular would be appreciated.

Also, I really like your new brochure, but would suggest that the pictures are all mining (truck/shovels) and a key message we are trying to get out is that 80% of the resource will be recovered using more conventional drilling methods (in situ) so some pictures of insitu would help add this balance in the future. We can send some if that would help.
