Chapter I

Introduction Our study consists of the related issues of farmers consisting the application of fertilizers and its advantages on rice concerning direct seeding method. Our study shows how important fertilizers are. Also it shows how effective the use of fertilizers in planting rice. This tells us the method about direct seeding and how to increase your profit and minimize your expenses. I. Statement of the problem To prove that applying fertilizers in direct seeding is more effective than the other method. Specific Question What are the advantages in direct seeding method? What is the most productive way of planting rice seeds as experienced by selected farmers? What are the problems encounter of selected farmers in planting rice seeds?

II.

Significance of the Study The significance of our study is to know cost efficient ways on growing rice plant

and how to minimize the expenses and maximize profit. Farmers as beneficiaries of research results particularly small time farmers. And knowledge for the farmers to better know the maximization of productivity rate. III. Scope and Limitations

The study would take place in Bacolod City particularly in Brgy. Granada. Our subjects would be the small time farmers and planters within 120 days or 4 months. The limitations would concern the weather conditions and the diseases and pests.

Definition of Terms Direct seeding or direct sowing is a method of planting in which seeds are directly planted on the ground in the farm or any growing surface.

Agribusiness refers to the business of farming, although, oddly, the term is not often used in correlation with actual farms.

Broadcasting or sabog tanim, or scatter planting, commonly applies to small seeds, like rice and mungbean that are capable of germination and sustained growth without soil cover.

Dibbling is an old method of planting crops practiced by subsistence farmers in hilly lands.

Slash-and-burn or kaingin system. Hill method of direct seeding is done by dropping seeds in holes made by a dibbler or in furrows that are more or less equidistant. But with mechanized farming, a combine furrower-planter is commonly used.

Drill method of planting crops is done, either manually or mechanically, by releasing seeds continuously, as if pouring water from a bottle with a small opening.

Transplanting is a method of planting crops in which potted plants or pregrown seedlings or clones are planted on the ground, other growing surface, or any growing structure

CHAPTER IV
Presentation, Analysis and Interpretation of Data In this chapter, we will be providing data for our research topic. We provided certain questions and tables for visual purposes. We questioned professional on this field to secure ourselves of the best possible answers. A. Advantages of direct seeding method We asked five farmers on how the direct seeding method more convenient rather than other methods. FARMERS
1. Edgardo Ecayan Not consuming More convenient

Less labor

Grows faster

2. Edwilito Bierra 3. Celso bahalan 4. Norberto Samson 5. Sergio Bahalan

We can say that the top two advantages would be that the method wouldn't requires much labor and that it is more convenient. Based from the article of Lakis Polycarpon written "Direct seeding of Rice - A simple solution to India's water crisis?" November 28, 2010 at 3:17

pm, he said that with direct seeding, laborious process of planting seedlings by hand is reduced as well as the crops water requirements.

B. Most productive way of planting rice seeds We asked five farmers on what is the most productive way of planting rice seeds as experience by them. We made a survey so that we could determine the frequent problems of farmers and deal with it by knowing the most productive way.

FARMERS

Direct Seeding

2. Edwilito Bierra 3. Celso bahalan 4. Norberto Samson 5. Sergio Bahalan

The result would be that most farmers would choose upland method and seedbed method. We believe that both of these methods would be the most productive based on insights given by professional experienced by farmers. Based from the article "Direct Seeding Method Popular among Rice Farmers written on January 2, 2011 at 6:32pm by Dr. M Farooq, Dr. S.M.A Basra and Basharat Ali Saleem which states that, success in raising healthy rice

seedlings depends mainly on constant supervision of seedbeds and proper management. Different of types nursery techniques are given in the following lines. The wet bed nursery: The wet bed method raising rice seedlings is the most popular worldwide. C. Problems encounter in planting rice seeds

We believed that each method has disadvantages. For example, Transplanting decreases the ability to withstand moisture stress. Also Upland rice method should prepare enough time to do the job. Also we believed that Transplanting reduces the excessive build up of vegetative biomass. Based from the article of Dr. M Farooq, Dr. S.M.A Basra and Basharat Ali Saleem written Direct Seeding Method Popular among Rice Farmers written on January 2, 2011 at 6:32pm, it states that Transplanting: The extent of transplanted rice decreasing in most of the rice growing countries due to scarcity of labor and other resources. Transplanting will also decrease rice plants ability to withstand moisture stress. Transplanting increase the yield of the long age varieties when compared with broadcasting because transplanting reduces the excessive build up of vegetative biomass due to the transplanting shock.
