Br. Armin A.

Luistro FSC
Department of Education Secretary
He began his steady but dynamic education career at De La Salle Lipa as a religion teacher. As is the way with gifted and dedicated teachers, he was eventually given more work and responsibilities as classroom adviser and campus minister. Alongside these jobs, he had already discerned that he would like to devote his energies to the education of youth and so joined the religious congregation of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, more commonly known as the De La Salle Brothers. He was assigned increasing responsibilities as sub-director of a community, to director, and finally to the post of Brother Provincial of the congregation. He was not only appointed chancellor and president of De La Salle University-Manila, but also as head of the Lasallian network of educational institutions composed of 17 schools scattered all over the Philippines. He is now the Secretary of the Department of Education. As head representative for education, he emphasizes selflessness and service in public administration: he makes it a point to visit far-flung schools himself, and he does so with as little fanfare as he can possibly underline with school officials and teachers who are always drawn to him because of his simplicity and humility, and who all the more desire to give him all the fanfare he so avoids.

Engr. Rodolfo Jun Lozada

An accidental hero but a hero nonetheless to a people starved for real-life, modern-day heroes. Rodolfo Noel I. Lozada, Jr. is an electronics and communications engineer and former chief executive officer of the Philippine Forest Corporation who served as a technical consultant to former Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Romulo Neri on the national broadband project. A graduate of the University of Santo Tomas, he has a 20-year experience in executive and management positions in the private sector. Lozada assumed the post of president and CEO of PhilForest, a corporate arm of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, in 2004. He directed the government's program for the propagation and commercial cultivation of tuba-tuba or jatropha plant, a source of biodiesel. He has contributed immensely to the movement of social transformation. He has used communication for better and nobler means. His presence is a living witness to the power of truth to unite people, to mobilized people, to inspire people to believe, to hope, to care and to act at least to the young people (who are his greatest followers nowadays). He has given them hope that truth can be found out, and acquire the energy to seek it.
