LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT Descriptive Essay Title: Maya She reached out longingly to touch the childs face.

A smile touch her lips seeing the serene look on the childs angelic face. Her fingers, cold against the warmth of the childs face, gently caresses the childs features as she brushed aside a lock of hair which had fallen covering the sleeping childs face. Knowing that sunrise was drawing near, she look at the child once more, as if trying to memorise the childs features. Looking out of the window she saw the sun beginning its ascent on the horizon. Sleep my child, for I am always watching you. disappeared in the shadows of dawn. She said, as she slowly [600 words]

The sun was shining brightly through the open window illuminating Mayas room with its golden rays. It has been a long time since she slept in total relaxation as she did the night before. It was like having someone watch over her while she slept. The last time she felt that way was a year ago, the day before her mother was found dead in a dark alley. The death was still a mystery to her because the only wound on her mothers body was two puncture on the neck. Painfully she pushed aside the memories of that day. Ever since the death of her mother, her father broke down and started drinking. Everything went downhill from there. Her father had stopped working and she had quitted school and start working at a local diner. Life goes on, Maya. Look on the bright side of things. Maya said to herself as she plastered a smile on her face, going down to the sitting room where her father was

snoring noisily, sprawled on the floor. All her optimism drained out when she saw the condition of the room. Cans of beer littered the floor around her unconscious father, the coffee table was turned over and there were clothes all over the place. Disgusted, she head straight for the door, slamming it as she leave.

She waited patiently as she watched the house where she had spent her happiest memories in, waiting for the child to return. She was relief that the sun has set for if she

were to have contact with even the slightest bit of direct sunlight, she will start burning. Unconsciously her hands went up to her neck touching the spot where there used to be two puncture wounds. Her heart ached as she recalled memories from a year ago. She was bringing out the trash and before she knew it she was being drag down the street into a dark alley. She had struggled but the attacker was so much stronger. There was no pain except for a small sting on her neck but she grew gradually weaker by the second and finally she passed out. Before she could stop herself, a single tear had already made its way down her cheek. It took her months to fully realise and accept her own death, of what she had

turned into. How she longs for blood. She would have rather just die than to become this but she can never bring herself to put a stake through her heart. It was only her love for the child that kept her fighting the desire for human blood and kept her living this way. The familiar smell of her favourite perfume bring her back to the present as she sees the child walking home from work. Her heart filled with sorrow to see the child like that but there was nothing she could do to help the child. She was just a silent watcher in this sad tale.

Dad, Im home! Maya said as she entered the house. She was exhausted from a full day at work but even more shattered when she saw that the sitting room was still in the exact same position she left it. All the feelings she had lock up in her for a year came spilling out. You think you are the only one missing her, dont you?! You think because you love her so much its all right to let go of everything, you could let go of your responsibilities! Well, youre wrong! Youre not the only one missing her! I want her back so badly. But you never knew, didnt you?! Maya screamed. Hurting, she ran out the door. Tears filled her eyes as she ran, blindly into the streets.

She had heard screams coming from the house, and seconds later the child came rushing out. The child was heading straight for the road where a car was coming in the childs direction. She did not have any time to warn the child. She saw the child being knocked down and thrown, a few feet away from the road. It took her a few second to

recover from the numbness. She ran to the child, her only thoughts were of keeping the child alive. The child was bleeding badly and the sight of it intensifies her desire for blood. She could not think straight and the idea that the child would live if she turned the child into her kind became more and more rational. Her head hurt and her instinct screamed for her to fill her lips with the sweet, thick liquid. Dazed, she finally gave into her desire and lowered her lips to the childs neck and drank her fill.

Im so sorry. I wasnt thinking The words were all jumbled in Mayas mind as she regained consciousness. The last thing she remembered was running out of the house. Her eyes were so heavy. Then she heard the sobs again. The voice seemed vaguely familiar. With all her might she opened her eyes. She was in a dark dusty room, filled with boxes. Mom? But youre dead! Maya said, terrified at who she saw. The person in front of her was dishevelled and had lost so much weight but there was no doubt that she was Mayas mother. Im so sorry. I never wanted it this way. Mayas mother kept on repeating. She then slowly moved closer towards Maya. It was only then did Maya see her mothers clothing was stained with blood. Im so sorry, Maya. I never intended to turn you into one of us. Im so sorry. I dont understand. Mom, tell me whats wrong. Before Maya could finish her sentence, her mother looked up and Maya finally saw her mothers face. She had fangs, caked with dried blood. Mayas hands shot up to her neck where she felt two punctures. Only then she realised that she did not have a reflection in the windows. Maya could only let out a wail as the meaning of her mothers words sunk in. She was dead. Her mother had turned her into a vampire.
