ABOUT LAST NIGHT...: Harrisburg Senators starter Jeff Mandel (1-1) pitched and hit the Harrisburg Senators past the Altoona Curve, 4-0, on Tuesday night at Metro Bank Park on City Island. The Curve bats fell silent to Mandel, who tossed seven scoreless innings and combined with Hector Nelo on the shutout. At the plate, Mandel went 2-for-3 and drove in the first three runs of the game for the Senators. Curve starter Mike Colla (0-2) went punch-for-punch with Mandel, striking out seven batters over five innings and allowing two hits. Mandel singled off of Colla in the fifth to give the Sens the games first run and a lead theyd never give back. The Curve werent without hits, they had six in the game including three doubles, but they stranded eight men on the bases in the loss. Jeremy Farrell and Adalberto Santos each went 2-for-4 in a losing effort for the Curve. CURVE/HARRISBURG SERIES: The Senators and the Curve will meet a total of 14 times this season despite being the closest team geographically to Altoona (roughly 121 miles). This is the first of two trips that the Curve will make to Metro Bank Park in 2012 with the other coming at the end of June. Altoona will welcome the Sens to Curve, Pa. during their next homestand for three games from April 24-26. The two teams will not meet again in the regular season after the Curves final series in Harrisburg, which ends on June 29. Last season, Altoona was 5-11 vs. Harrisburg and 3-7 inside the confines of Metro Bank Park. FOR ALTOONA: Looking for a series win and their third of the road trip, the Curve send LHP Nathan Baker to the mound for the trips final game in Harrisburg tonight. Baker has gotten out of the gate well in his first Double-A season, going 2-0 with a miniscule 0.82 ERA across his first two starts. In his last outing against Richmond on Friday at The Diamond, Baker combined with Vic Black and Tim Alderson to shutout the Squirrels. The Memphis, Tenn. native threw six shutout innings in the win and hasnt allowed a run in his last 9.0 innings pitched dating back to the second inning of his first start against Erie on April 6th. It will also be Bakers first time facing a Nationals affiliate since 2010 when he made two starts against the Hagerstown Suns with the West Virginia Power. In those two games, Baker went 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA and 9 strikeouts in 10 innings pitched. For more on Baker, see page two. FOR HARRISBURG: The Sens will look to LHP Danny Rosenbaum to lead them to a series victory in the finale on Wednesday night on City Island. Rosenbaum, 24, enters the 2012 campaign as the 23rd-best prospect in the Nationals minor league system according to Baseball America. Last season for High-A Potomac, Rosenbaum went 6-5 with a 2.59 ERA in 20 games (19 starts) and fanned 108 in 132 innings pitched before a promotion to Harrisburg. In six games for the Sens, Rosenbaum went 3-1 with a 2.29 ERA with 27 punchouts in 39 innings. A product of Xavier, Rosenbaum was selected in the 22nd round of the 2009 draft by the Nationals and began pitching immediately within the farm system after signing.
