Lesson Objective(s): Students will be able to identify what nouns and verbs are and what roles

they play in the subject and predicate of a sentence. Students will be able to utilize an internet game as a technological and educational resource to further their understanding of the topic. Students will comprehend the importance of knowing what the subject and predicate of a sentence is.

Introduce the Learning Activity: The introduction to this lesson will begin with a refresher in what

nouns/verbs as well as subject/predicates are. I will ask the students to tell me what they know about the topic already, and then fill in some gaps so that they will be able to participate in the activity. To motivate the students, I will have a competition that goes hand and hand with the internet activity. The first person to finish the task will receive a prize.

Provide Information: This lesson will have a few definitions that the class will need to go over

before they can effectively begin the activity. I will go over these definitions and then provide some examples that we as a class will go over on the white board. Some of the definitions included will be:

Noun: A word (other than a pronoun) used to identify any of a class of people, places, or things (common noun), or to name a particular one of these (proper noun) Verb: A word used to describe an action, state, or occurrence, and forming the main part of the predicate of a sentence, such as hear, become, happen Subject: A person or thing that is being discussed, described, or dealt with Predicate: The part of a sentence or clause containing a verb and stating something about the subject.

Provide Practice: Students will be able to practice the material by using the link to the internet

game provided. Students will use this game to put the knowledge that they have been given in the previous section to work. Students who have questions can raise their hands and I can either address their questions individually or in class. After working on the game for a period of time, students will be able to continue practice and discuss answers with their neighbors.

Provide Knowledge of Results: I will provide students with verbal feedback in the form of

answering questions about what they have had trouble with as far as the lesson is concerned. I will go around to individuals and ask them what they are struggling with and what they already know about the topic.

I will review the activity by bringing the students back as a class and discussing what they had trouble with as far as the lesson is concerned and field any last minute inquiries. Then I will discuss the importance of knowing the nouns/verbs and subjects/predicates in a sentence. If there are any more questions beyond that I will answer them
Review the Activity: Method of Assessment: This type of lesson is hard to assess in a very concrete way. What I

would probably do is observe the students during the activity and give them a participation grade. This participation grade would be based on how the students stayed on task during the activity and engaged in the game. If possible I may also do an exit slip asking students to tell write down one thing that they learned during the lesson and one thing that they still are unclear about.
