APPENDIX 1
PLAN OF EXAMINATION
1. The Examination shall be conducted according to the
following plan :
Part 1-The written Examination will comprise two
sections-Section I consisting only of objective types of
questions and Section II of conventional papers. Both
Sections will cover the entire syllabus of the relevant
engineering disciplines viz. Civil Engineering, Mechanical
Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Electronics &
Telecommunication Engineering. The standard and syllabi
prescribed for these papers are given in Schedule to the
Appendix. The details of the written Examination i.e. subject,
duration and maximum marks allotted to each subject are
given in para 2 below.
Part II-Personality test carrying a maximum of 200
marks of such of the candidates who quality on the basis of
the written examination.

 Candidates are advised to read carefully special
instructions to candidates for conventional type tests
and objective type tests given in Appendix-IV (Part A &
Part B) including the procedure regarding filling in the
Answer Sheet of objective type tests in the Examination
Hall.
 In the Personality Test special attention will be paid to
assessing the candidate's capacity for leadership,
initiative and intellectual curiosity, tact and other social
qualities, mental and physical energy, powers of
practi cal appl i cati on and i ntegri ty of character.
Conventional papers must be answered in English.
Question papers will be set in English only.
 Candidates must write the papers in their own hand.
In no circumstances will they be allowed the help of a
scribe to write the answers for them.
 The Commission have discretion to fix minimum

 Candidates are permitted to bring and use battery
operated pocket calculators for conventional (essay)

calculators in the Examination hall is not permitted.
It is also important to note that candidates are not
permitted to use calculators for answering objective
t ype paper (Test bookl ets). They shoul d not ,
therefore, bring the same inside the Examination
Hall.

FILLING ONLINE APPLICATIONS
Candidates are required to apply Online using the
Website http://www.upsconline.nic.in Salient
Features of the system of Online Application Form are
given hereunder :
 Detailed instructions for filling up Online applications
are available on the above mentioned website.
 Candidates will be required to complete the Online
application form containing two stages viz. Part-
I and Part-II as per the instructions available in

 The candidates applying Online are required to pay
Rs. 100/- [excepting SC/ST/Female/PH candidates

remitting the money in any branch of SBI by cash,

BS-MS Dual Degree Programme for the academic
session starting 2012
The Institutes
 IISERs are devoted to world class education and
research at the BS-MS and Ph. D. levels in sciences
- Biology, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Mathematics,
Physics, and interdisciplinary areas. These
Institutes have highly qualified faculty devoted to
excellence in research and teaching. The Institutes
are designed to have sprawling green campuses
with state-of-the-art research and teaching facilities,
modern residential, sports and recreational
amenities.
The BS-MS Programme
• The dual degree BS-MS is an integrated five-year
course after 12th standard.
• The first two years will have core courses in basic
sciences.
• Third and fourth years will be dedicated to
specialization in chosen science subject.
• Fifth year will be devoted to a research project.
• The students are trained to join R&D institutes,
academia and science-based industries such as
pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, electronics,
materials and polymer industries, etc.

SX(2011)/ SB(2011 )/SP(Passed 10+2 in 2011/
2012).
 IIT-JEE 2012: Students obtaining a minimum of 60%
marks in class XII and securing a place in the rank
list.
 Central & State Boards: Students qualifying in Class
XII in 2011 or 2012 in Science Stream with either
 Marks above the cut-off percentage declared on the
DST website for the INSPIRE eligibility in http://
www.inspire-dst.gov.in/lnspire-Advertisement.pdf.
For OBC (non-creamy layer) a 5% relaxation on
DST cut-off is admissible. The cut-off for SC/ST is
60% in class XII for all boards in 2012.

higher education (SHE) under INSPIRE scheme.
All the students appearing through this stream must
qualify the USER Aptitude Test.
Scholarship
 All students are eligible for a monthly scholarship
of Rs.5000/- awarded by INSPIRE/KVPY scheme
as per DST norms, subject to continued good
academic performance.

THREE YEAR DIPLOMA IN DRAMATIC ARTS
(2012-2015)
ADMISSION NOTICE
 The National School of Drama, a central autonomous
institution, fully funded by the Government of India
Ministry of Culture, invites applications for admission
to its three year diploma course (full time-
residential) in Dramatic Arts. The course starts from
mid July 2012 and aims at training students to
become professionals in the area of acting, design
and other theatre related disciplines.
ELIGIBILITY:
Essential Qualifications:
 Graduation in any subject from a recognised
University in India or abroad.
 Participation in at least 6 theatre productions.
 Working knowledge of Hindi & English.
AGE LIMIT as on 1.7.2012 Minimum 20 years
Maximum 30 years. The upper age limit is relaxable
by 5 years for SC / ST candidates only.
RESERVATION FOR SC/ST/OBC:
 Out of 26 seats, 4 seats are reserved for candidates
belonging to the scheduled castes; 1 seat for
scheduled tribes and 5 seats for OBC (except
Creamy Layer as notified by the Government) as
per Govt. of India rules.
SELECTION:
 An Expert Committee constituted by the School
will assess the aptitude and talent of the candidates
& its decision will be final. Any CANVASSING in
this regard will be treated as a disqualification.
MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION : Hindi / English
CENTRE(S) FOR PRELIMINARY TEST/AUDITION
AND FINAL WORKSHOP:
 A preliminary test/audition will be conducted at five
centres i.e. Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Mumbai &
Guwahati. The candidates qualifying in this test will
have to attend a workshop of 4 or 5 days in the
NSD premises for final selection. For this workshop,
they will be paid D.A. and II class train / bus fare
from the place of their residence to Delhi & back by
the shortest route on submission of the ticket/ cash
receipt and will also be provided accommodation
on a modest sharing basis.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE:
 All selected students will be given scholarship of
Rs. 6000/- p.m. to meet their academic and other
expenses.
PHYSICAL FITNESS:
 The students selected for admission will have to
undergo a medical test for physical fitness at NSD,
New Delhi. Their final selection is subject to
clearance of the fitness test.
HOW TO APPLY:
 To receive the application form and prospectus (in
English & Hindi) by post, please write to The
Academics Department, National School of Drama,
Bahawalpur House, Bhagwandas Road, New Delhi-
110001 along with a crossed Demand Draft /Pay
Order, payable at Delhi, of Rs. 225/- (Rupees two
hundred twenty five only) including postal charges
in favour of The Director, National School of Drama,
New Delhi. Request for receiving the application form
by post should reach the School by 30.03.2012.
 The application form & prospectus will also be
available from the Book Shop of the National School
of Drama from 20.03.2012 to 15.04.2012 on cash
payment of Rs. 150/- between 10.00 A.M. to 1.00
P.M. & 2.00 P.M. to 5.00 P.M. on working days.
 The application form can also be downloaded from
the school website www.nsd.gov.in from 20.03.2012.
The downloaded application form must be sent along
with a Demand Draft of Rs. 150/- in favour of The
Director, National School of Drama, New Delhi in
an envelope titled ‘Application for Admission 2012-
2015. Forms sent in envelopes without this will not
be entertained.
 Application forms dully filled in & complete in all
respects must reach The Academic Department,
National School of Drama, Bahawalpur House,
Bhagwandas Road, New Delhi-110001 on or before
20.04.2012. No application form will be entertained
after the last date.
 Applicants who have been applying for the last 3
years but did not qualify in the preliminary interview
need not apply. However, applicants who qualified
in the preliminary interview but could not clear the
final interview for the last 2 years may apply.
