Maintaining patient files occurs within various types of health care and health care settings. One goal of this course is to help you contemplate choices for your career. From what youve learned about medical records and health care settings so far, highlight the choices that best reflect your career interests and explain your reasons: 1. My career interest at this time is more oriented toward: Primary carepoint of first contact Secondary carespecialist services by referral Tertiary careunusual disorders

because: I would consider working in any of the above areas. Primary care because of having the first contact with the patient. I also like the idea of learning who your patients are and getting to know them. Secondary because of the interesting fields of specialty medicine this category falls under. I could become easily interested in dealing with patients who are having medical problems where specific specialists are needed such as cardiologist, urologist, and so on. Tertiary cares because again due to the specialized areas of practice that is involved.

2. If I were to work in a hospital department, I would prefer: Ambulatory care Ancillary services Emergency care Critical care Surgery

because: of the crucial importance to recovery of patient's. Patients in this situation are fighting for their life and every moment counts. The other departments in the hospital interest me as well. At this point in my life I would just be happy to have a job in the medical field, because it wouldn't make a difference to me which department. The reason for my answer is that I feel that each department in the hospital plays an important role in the recovery and care of each and every patient who is admitted.

3. If I were to work in behavioral health care, I would prefer drug/alcohol addiction_____________. because: I picked addiction because my two brothers was a drug addict and it is what eventually cause a lot of problems in our family. I have found out since my two brothers used drug and alcohol abusers it leads to a lot of marital problems in our household.

4. The medical specialty that interests me most is: orthopedics_____________. because: I am not really sure why this field interest me so much, other than my mother had a lot of orthopedic issues before she passed away some years ago. Also, in past health care courses I seemed to do exceptionally well when it came to this medical specialty. 5. The patient population that I am most interested in working with is: Children______________. Consider age, language-base, special needs, etc. because: I think I like to work with children because I am a mom and a grandma and children are so special to me. I know from experience when my little sister got sick with leukemia and only lived 3 years and my 3 year old son died. His heart was not fully developed at birth; it can be a very scary time for a family to go through this type of tragedy.
