Brights and Stripes
Stripes in blue and green are paired with Big Star’s cropped jean. THE HIDDEN CLOSET, Chagrin Falls, 440.247.0292. Bright is the buzzword for this season. From top to bottom, no category is exempt from this trend. One of the hottest trends is the colored bottom, namely colored jeans. From tangy tangerine to lemon yellow, it is a fresh approach to traditional denim. Pair colored jeans with easy, open-weave knits and/or a printed blouson top. Not into the colored jean? I love the idea of a fabulous, long skirt in a bright color, a look that has been spotted on some of the most stylish gals this season. Even stripes are given a boost with the use of cool shades of high-intensity blues. If you love color, this is your time to shine. Outerwear designers have fun with color this season, too. Sporty coats in snappy colors pop against solids such as black and white. Shades of coral, red and orange are the most flattering colors and will look sophisticated when you pair them with existing pieces in your wardrobe. Antik Batik’s drop-waist, pleated skirt and crystal thong sandals. Athé’s sweater. AR2, First & Main, Hudson, 330.653.9538.

DL1961’s “Amanda” jean with a Vintage Havana tie-dyed dolmansleeve top and Tory Burch flats. KNUTH’S, Pepper Pike, 216.831.1116 and Westlake, 440.871.7800.

A tangerine waterproof jacket by Rainforest has a hidden hood and roll-up sleeves. ALBERTS, Eton Chagrin Blvd., Woodmere, 216.831.8801.

Floral Fanfare
From soft-colored pastels to large, bright bouquets, floral prints are everywhere this spring and they are not your mother’s florals. Oversized flowers in orange, yellow, pink and red are rendered in floaty concoctions of silk and sheer fabrics. Smaller prints are given the femme treatment in a palette of pastels featured in fitted dresses with lovely, ladylike details. A floral dress or top is an easy way to add color to a wardrobe that needs a little springtime boost.

Casual Studio’s sheer tunic top with a lace tank by Necessitees and Tricotto leggings. BONNIE’S GOUBAUD, Eton Chagrin Blvd., Woodmere, 216.831.4250.

Lilly Pulitzer’s flirtatious floral halter dress. LILLY PULITZER, Legacy Village, Lyndhurst, 216.291.8670.

Plenty of Prints
Prints, prints and more prints. From paisleys to polka-dots, designers can’t seem to get enough this spring. “Harper’s Bazaar” states that “The classic paisley has made the daredevil leap from sartorial silk scarves and exotic shawls to the runway’s liveliest looks” and “a printed top ushers the trend nicely into reality.” Exotic prints, tropical prints, landscapes, digital prints, graphic prints and nature-inspired prints all play an important part in this season’s lineup. Look for polka-dot dresses and tops in unexpected color combinations. Leaf prints in lush shades of greens and warm browns are especially strong. Natural elements such as wood, leather, raffia and rope are fashioned into some of this season’s hottest accessories.

D. Exterior’s leaf print, drape-front top with a slim, pant-like legging. KILGORE TROUT, Eton Chagrin Blvd., Woodmere, 216.831.0488.

Color Collection
There are several strong color stories for spring 2012. The combination of black and white always makes a statement and even more so this spring as designers showcase the look in sporty separates as well as graphic-inspired looks and modern-day accessories. Equally important are rich hues such as purple and green paired together. Intense shades of turquoise and all shades of blue are especially beautiful this season. Greens in cool, minty hues freshen things up while primary colors such as red, yellow and blue look fabulous with black and white. Finally, there is the softer side of color, pastels.
