ALDE
By Théo Fatséas, July Chatzizisi and Thetis Mytilini
ALDE (Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe) currently consists of 86 Members of the European Parliament from 20 countries of the EU; however, there are currently 754 seats in the European Parliament. Miss Antonopoulou introduced herself to the MEPs, expressing the will to promote the “human rights in every aspect of life” within debates of the European Parliament, as well as, for instance, the immigration policies and the question of nuclear energy.

focused on the goals she wished to achieve. She claimed credit for the open minded ideas of ALDE, although ALDE did not represent the majority of the Parliament. She underlined her personal goals, that is to pass the views of ALDE to the Parliament and present ALDE in a favourable way. Before the second round of the voting procedure, the Board urged the members of ALDE to address questions to Mrs. Papadopoulou and Mrs. Stefoudi.

EPP

The time was 9.30 in the morning when the group of the EPP gathered in order to elect their President. Each one of the three candidates had a unique personality, which made this procedure even more appealing. The first candidate was Mr. Fragkioudakis, MEP of SEDE. During his speech he stretched the need of economic and social stability, the reduction of illegal immigration, the European industry development and the competitive energy markets. Furthermore, he focused on the culture’s social dimension and the necessity of cooperation between Third World countries and other vital organizations.

on Eurovision which raised the interest in the conference. He emphasized on the need of cooperation, vision and consistency, repeating: "More scope, more action and more Europe!". His passionate speech was followed by a lot of questions, including the comment of Mr. Papagiannis, MEP of AFET, concerning "Black Europe", which offended most of the present countries. After the EPP elections, every Committee determined its own specific policy: According to AFET, the members of the EPP support a common policy on the issue of refugees and the dialogue between the origin and the host state.

Answering a question, both candidates stated that their goal is to represent ALDE against other parties and help all MEPs represent themselves. Moreover, Mrs. Stefoudi highlighted that, in Mrs. Papadopoulou was the case of an argument among the parties, it is ALDE’s second candidate for the position of the president of duty not to give up on their policy. At that moment, they were called not only to state their policy of their parties, but also to give satisfactory answers to the questions of the MEPS and the organizing committee. As far as it concerns the first green party, Mr. Giannias himself, assured that he’ll try to demonstrate the ideas of all the members and the traits that the Greens advocate. One of these traits is the reversion of the climate and this is their betting. Furthermore, on behalf of his party, Mr. Giannias, pointed out some of his pursuits: peace, democracy and sustainability. promised his competitive effectiveness to the committee and the members. A really interesting part of the session, was the questions. Mr. Tsertsides asked about the problem of sustainability and how the green parties can compromise with the crisis on this issue. Mr. Giannias provided a more viable solution through the discussion among all the parties and the existence of more prominent and clear stands of the E.U. In contrary, the party of Mr. Koronakis suggested the total reform of the economical european system as the only way to deal with the crisis. To the challenge of the expensive project of the green deal and its success with these data, the two parties agreed that this is the only way to battle crisis even if the second one prefered the funding by the E.U rather than this of the states. Eventually, in the voting time, Mr. Giannias was elected as the President of the Greens with one vote more than the other party (9-8).

Everything seems to have started smoothly in the ECON committee, with the Presidents establishing quorum. However, before the session could be adjourned, a Financial Times article came to change the tide in the committee. During the first unmoderated caucus, the MEPs were separated into two groups, and their results were general and not concrete enough to shape a final solution to the problem. The second unmoderated caucus reflected the common will of the MEPs to come to a unanimous decision by collaborating, in order to create a functional institution that would solve the upcoming problems, such as the investments and trade between the EU and the Arab League. However, the scepticism of some MPEs representing certain financially weak countries (such as Greece), seemed to perplex even more this idea. Why do we finally need sustainable development, the creation of new jobs and a fight against property without taking also into consideration our own opinions? On the other hand, S&D Party respects us and our culture, in particular, and realizes that nobody can make us to agree with their criteria. DROI: Fight against sexual discrimination
By July Chatzizisi The first day of the sessions in the DROI committee started with the members of the Board, Mrs. Merti and Mr. Batistakis, expressing their hopes for a fruitful discussion among the 24 MEPs on the topic “Blank spots on Europe’s LGBT rights map - A globalised fight against discrimination. What can be done to end discrimination of LGBT people within and outside the EU?”, especially concerning issues such as education, healthcare and media.

CULT: Sport within the European Union, a current debate
By Théo Fatséas With the Olympic Games of London approaching, the CULT Committee has rightfully been appointed the unavoidable question of the role of sport in the European Union policy. Representatives of EPPs proposed to press the European Parliament to vote for a horizontal directive which would include many aspects, such as education. MEPs of GREENs proposed antibullying campaigns and courses on sexual orientation addressed both to teachers and to students. The first committee session started with a warm welcome by the Board. The MEPs were encouraged to introduce themselves to the House and thereafter to sharply express their ideas and proposals regarding the topic area under consideration. The debate level was encouraging from the very first minute as the burning issue of nuclear power, the means to energy production, came directly to the front by the MEPs. Their main concern was whether nuclear power can be used only for energy production, and if so, the way to achieve this, without bringing on any devastating After all nuclear power matters were covered, the discussion turned to the renewable energy sources, which are unanimously

Questions were raised concerning the effectiveness of such an organization as well as the ways to make sure that it will be helpful.
