I/We plan to attend the invitation only Erie Canal Heritage Park open house
Calling All Alumni!!!
It is time for us to make plans to come together to see friends and classmates at our annual alumni banquet. We
are honoring the Class of 1966 and Class of 1991. Thanks to your generous donations several students of the
2016 graduating class will receive Alumni Award scholarships to help them start the next phase of their
education and/or begin their work careers. This year you have a very special reason to attend our alumni event.
We have been invited to an “invitation only” open house at Port Byron’s new Erie Canal Heritage Park. Your
ticket to this sneak peek tour is your paid banquet dinner reservation. See further details later in this newsletter.
Remember the “Wall of Distinction” (alumni career database) is still growing, but still needs more alum sharing
their career experience. Current high school students are being inspired while discovering occupations and
training opportunities they never would have thought of before they searched this database. If you haven’t
completed an Alumni Career Survey, please go to www.pbcschools.org click on “Alumni” in the left menu
display, follow the link to the alumni website and mail us your completed form.
I look forward to seeing you at this year’s banquet, but if you can’t join us your paid membership fee and
Alumni Award scholarship contribution are still very much appreciated.

Port Byron Central School Alumni Association
On behalf of the Canal Society of New York State, I want to invite those attending the Port Byron Central
School alumni banquet to a sneak peek open house at the Port ByronOld Erie Canal Heritage Park. To attend
this event, you should access the park from the State Rt. 31 entrance located on the west end of the village.
The planning and development of this park has been a 20 year endeavor that has now become a reality. To say
that this park is special is a tremendous understatement. It is actually a one of a kind in the United States. It is
the only historic site that has exclusive access from an interstate highway system. This alone will give
thousands of distant travelers a unique awareness of this area’s special place in history, and encourage many to
return to visit other local sites.
The Port Byron Old Erie Canal Heritage Park includes a visitor center with displays of canal artifacts, access to
Lock 52, a blacksmith shop, mule barn and the fully restored Vandetto “Erie House” Tavern and boarding
house. I think you will be amazed at how this park will take you back in time when “You'll always know your
neighbor, And you'll always know your pal, If you've ever navigated on the Erie Canal”.
We look forward to welcoming you to this special open house on the afternoon of Saturday, June 11th starting at
3:00 p.m., ending at 5:00 p.m., again please access the park from the State Rt. 31 entrance.

Calling all Port Byron Band Alumni!
As we have been doing for a couple of years now, the band program will be presenting a concert/Ice Cream Social
on Friday, June 10th, as a function of Alumni Weekend. Please let me know if you would be interested in performing as
an alum of the band program in this concert. If you no longer have your instrument, I may be able to get you one. The
program will be similar in style to last year: Concert Band Selections, Patriotic and Film Favorites & perhaps Jazz Band
Selections. I would appreciate responses for the Ice Cream Social by May 20, so that I can get music out to anyone who
