It was heartening to know that all people living with HIV/AIDS can work like any other people. M. ASACS . This wonderful train motivated a large section of the people who participated overwhelmingly in this successful awareness campaign on HIV/AIDS. During the 1st quarter. Hagjer Barman Project Director. The Assam State AIDS Control Society is striding forward for achieving the target and goal set under the aegis of NACP-III. The Red Ribbon Express generated compassion and brought the people closure to the reality of this epidemic through this mass awareness campaign. 2010 coinciding with the celebration of Rongali Bihu and the onset of Assamese New Year. I look forward to your valuable suggestions in the coming days in making this newsletter more informative and relevant.
as of today there is no cure for AIDS although a number of medical researchers are burning the proverbial midnight oil to seek a cure. (Rakhi Chakravarty) . holding programmes in over 10000 villages across India. The Red Ribbon Express was welcomed into Assam on 17th June 2010 at the Fakiragram Railway Station in Kokrajhar District. Then the Express went on to Bongaigaon. Over the days. with a plan to cover 25000 kilometers in 2009-10. Together with a slew of publicity initiatives across various media. I sincerely believe that one day all the people of Assam will be fully aware of the dangers of HIV/AIDS and the easy steps that can be taken to prevent its spread. Lumding. the Assam State AIDS Control Society (ASACS) organized various pre-arrival activities before the Express arrived in the state. covering 160 districts. To this extent. the Express had more than 48 thousand visitors and reached out to more than 1 lakh 75 thousand viewers. Also. as the people get educated about HIV/AIDS. the social stigma associated with the disease is dispelled to a large extent. However. To further augment the train's efforts to mobilize people's movement against HIV/AIDS. Sadly. the National AIDS Control Organization (NACO) launched the Red Ribbon Express .
