WOLFVILLE SCHOOL NEWSLETTER

Principal Eric Trahan Middle School Office 542-6050 Vice Principal Ruth MacLeod Elementary Office 542-6055

WEBSITE: http://wolfville.ednet.ns.ca April 27, 2012 Dear Parents/Guardians:

In order to facilitate the Middle School Transition/Orientation Day for students who will be entering into grade 6 next year, there will be no school for Wolfville students who are currently enrolled in grade 6 on Tuesday, May 15th. This will allow us the time needed to properly receive this new group of grade 6 students from L.E Shaw, Gaspereau and Wolfville Elementary and to give them the best possible orientation to Wolfville Middle School. Please note that Wolfville School students currently in grade 7 and 8 will attend school on Tuesday, May 15, 2012, as usual. I would also like to invite all grade 5 parents to a very important meeting planned on Monday, May 7th, 2012 at 6:30 pm in our school gym. The purpose of this meeting is to give parents and guardians an opportunity to familiarize themselves with our Middle School policies and procedures, school schedule, timetable, etc. This is also meant to be an opportunity for parents/guardians to ask questions and to take this information back to their children in order to reassure them that they will be well looked after at Wolfville Middle School. Id also like to take this opportunity to remind parents that we will soon be looking at placing all of our students into classrooms for next year. That said, if you would like to make a class placement request, please do so in writing to me by June 1, 2012. I would like to highlight; however, that in order to ensure the best learning environment for all of our students, staff has developed a very specific list of criteria which is used in order to help facilitate this process. Our goal of course is to create balanced and equitable classes across all grades, which we believe, will help ensure ALL students will be provided with the best educational opportunity possible. Some of the criteria considered when creating class lists include: gender, academic ability, behavior, ability to work independently, health concerns, friendships, etc. In addition to parent requests, it is important to note that we also rely on the experience and expertise of classroom teachers, specialist teachers, resource staff, guidance counselor, feeder schools, etc.
