May 2012 Newsletter of the Photo Pictorialists of Milwaukee Established 1904 Affiliated with the Photographic Society of America Wisconsin Area Camera Clubs Organization And the Wisconsin Print Circuit Richard Yehl, President; Sandra Weber, Vice President Dixie Lowin, Treasurer; Bert Hartinger, Secretary-Editor Meetings are held the first and third Thursdays of each month from September thru May at 7pm, in the Luther Manor Conference Room, 4545 N. 92nd St., Wauwatosa, Wisconsin way of doing this would be to set up Flicker accounts Recap of April Programs to show our images. At our first meeting in April, we had a chance to bring in whatever photos, which resulted in seeing a wide variety of images, reflecting the activities and interests of our membership. That was entertaining and we should do it again, at least once in a while. At the second meeting, our annual business meeting, topics discussed were: judging our competition in May, selecting officers for the coming year, and changing our meeting schedule from twice a month to once a month. Due to the difficulty of finding outside judges, it was agreed that we will self judge the May competition. This years officers will continue to hold office in the coming program year. Special thanks are due to our President, Richard Yehl, for his tireless promotion of the club in many ways, and to Sandra Weber, our VP, for setting up our web site. It was decided to hold meetings just once a month, on first Thursdays. In between meetings, it was also decided that we should each send three images to other club members for critiques. A rotation schedule of who should send images to whoever will be worked out so that we all will be given an equal chance to critique. It was suggested that one We voted in favor of giving Luther Manor $75.00 in thanks for a meeting place. Nowadays digital cameras rapidly change, with new versions of older models and with completely new models. Jim Krivitz brought in two new ones, the Sony Nex 5 and Sony Nex 7 mirrorless cameras with advanced features, and he told of the Fuji X Pro-1, which was just released. The tools (or toys) we have to work with keep getting better all the time. May Meetings May 3 is our competition meeting. We will self judge. All images to be entered into competition were handed in at the last April meeting. There will be many photos to judge so the meeting may take longer than usual. Instead of starting at 7 pm the meeting will commence at 6:30. Kathy Braun, Richard Yehl and Sandra Weber said that they will bring in beverages. The rest of us should bring in snacks to pass around and share. May 17 will be our annual year end banquet. It will be held in the regular meeting place, the LM conference room. May Meetings, contd.
Richard will bring in cooked ham and turkey. Everybody else should bring in a dish for pot luck. For beverages, beer, wine, coffee, soda, fruit juice, as you may prefer, are fine. Exhibitions You Will Want to See Two large, wonderful exhibitions of photographs are on display now. A WACCO sponsored exhibition in the Reuss Building will run through May. Several of us have photographs in the show, along with the work of other members of WACCO affiliate clubs. A reminder: we should pick up our prints from the Reuss between the hours of 12 noon and 2pm, on June 2, 2012. At the same time the WACCO show is running, the COPA Members Exhibition is displayed through May 12, at 262 E. Menomonee Street, in the Third Ward. Photos of many different artists are in this show, and the variety is great. And, of course, if you havent done so already, stop at the Welcome Center of LM to see Pauline Becks flower photographs and the new mystery panel photos.
