1. Summary of the Lesson Plan: This lesson is designed to create a better understanding of the three branches in the U.S. constitution by having the students in their group create a readers theater for the branch they are assigned to. 2. Target Population: grade level: 5th grade skill level: students at all grade levels grouping: whole group discussion, small group create Readers Theater and perform it to whole class.
3. Objectives: H2.5.2 Describe issues of compromise and conflict within the United States.
4. Procedure: 1. Teacher will start off with prior knowledge with what the students should know from the previous reading. Students will discuss as a whole group what they remember, especially about the three branches and it will be written on the board. 5min 2. Teacher will provide an example of a readers theater and shows what students should have in theirs when they create their own. 5min 3. Teacher will split the class into three groups assigning them each a branch. Within the group some will research on the computer about the branch. Together they must create a readers theater for their branch. 20 min 4. Teacher will walk around to ensure that students understand and are on task. The readers theater has to describe in a more student friendly way so that the rest of the class can understand better what that branch does. 5. Each group will have to present their readers theater to the class when finished. After each group is finished as a whole class teacher will have them write down what each branch does using what they heard from the readers theater. 20 min
5. Assessment: An informal assessment for day 3 is to make sure that each student is contributing to the readers theater and ask questions to each group and make sure they understand what it is they are doing. What skills do students need in order to be successful with this lesson?

Students will need to be able to work together and do research on their branch to get enough information to create the readers theater. How will you follow up or extend this lesson? - To follow up on the lesson I will have them build on the knowledge of what they knew from day 1 using what they wrote on day 1. Also have them get ready for the upcoming test. What can you do for students who dont grasp the concepts? - I will work with students personally and make sure that I have gone to each group and made sure that they understand what is going on and if I have a handful who doesnt understand I will work with them together to show them what everyone else is doing. Where do you anticipate having problems with this lesson? Problems I anticipate could happen are students getting stumped on how to create a readers theater to get everyone involved. Also how to create one in general.
