Recital "Need-to-Know" Information--"IN THE SPOTLIGHT"
Contact information: VERY IMPORTANT! If you are not receiving "Footnotes" by email or viewing it on the "Contempo Dance Academy" Facebook page, we don't have your correct email. And as a result you have been missing important studio news. Any last minute updates for the recital will be communicated by email, so if you haven't received our emails, please send an email to email@example.com immediately (and be sure to add this address to your list of approved senders). We just want to keep you informed--we will not share your email address with anyone. Dress Rehearsal: Friday, June 8th at 2:30 p.m. This is mandatory for all dancers--arrive in costume. Performance Dates for "In the Spotlight": o Friday, June 8th at 6:30 p.m. --Dancers must check in at the ticket table by 5:45 p.m. o Saturday, June 9th at 11:00 a.m. --Dancers must check in at the ticket table by 10:15 a.m. o After check-in DANCERS will proceed into the auditorium and find a seat with their class. Only volunteers will be allowed into the auditorium with the dancers. Once all dancers have been seated, an announcement will be made for ticket-holders to enter the auditorium. We anticipate that seating will begin approximately 20-30 minutes before the show begins. Seating is general admission, with families of volunteers having the first selection of seats. Volunteers: Moms & Dads we need your help!! Come and be a part of the great show experience, by helping with dress rehearsal and/or performances with ticket sales, ushering, costuming, as dancer chaperones, etc. Junior high & high school students who need service hours are also welcome to help as runners. Location for performances and dress rehearsal: Grounds for Hope Cafe Auditorium, 2701 Maple Ave. near Green Trails in Lisle. It is in a strip mall/shopping center and the building says "Trinity" in large lettering. Tickets: $8/adults and $5/children in advance-cash or check only. Other local private studios charge as much as $15-$25 per ticket, and also require dancers to purchase tickets to watch the show. Our students will be seated with their class in the auditorium, and do not require a ticket. Tickets will be available at the studio beginning on May 7th. (Tickets will be available for cash purchase at the door for $10 each--adults or children.) Show DVDs: Sound Memories of Westmont will be doing our professional show video on Friday. DVDs may be ordered at a pre-show cost of $25 each (cash or check only) during the month of May. Use the order form on page 2 below. Other local private studios charge as much as $45-$60 per DVD, so ours is a great value for a professional quality recording of your child's performance. Remember, the use of individual phones, cameras or video equipment to record or photograph any portions of the performance is not allowed. Show Photos: Action photographs will be taken during performance and may be viewed and purchased online from the photographer. Details will be provided. We will not be taking posed class photographs for the recital.

Costumes, Hair, Makeup, Shoes: o Most costumes will be distributed in the next few weeks. Tutus should be hung upside down on a pant hanger (with clips) for maximum fullness. Wrinkles in knit skirts/dresses should be steamed out--not ironed. Hanging the costume in the bathroom while taking a shower may provide enough steam to remove the wrinkles, so try that first. o Students should arrive at the theater in costume, with hair and makeup already done for dress rehearsal and both performances. There is not enough time or space to accommodate dressing at the theater. Students with costume changes (and their moms only) will be given access to the Green Room between show numbers. However, it is highly recommended that these students purchase a skin-toned "nude" leotard to wear under their costumes for speed and modesty during costume changes. You can purchase a "nude" color leotard at Contempo for $15, or find one at a local dance store (at a higher cost). But do not wait until the last minute--this is recital season and nude leotards are in high demand. Hair: Ballet classes must have hair pulled into a high bun, no bangs or stray hairs in the face. Flower clips are worn to the right of the bun. Scrunchies are worn over the bun. A video on making a bun is posted on the "Contempo Dance Academy" Facebook page for your convenience, or suggestions may be found on the Internet under "ballet bun." Creative Dance and Jazz/Hip-hop classes must have hair pulled into a high ponytail or bun, no bangs or stray hairs in the face. Use a lot of hairspray and/or gel with bobby pins to help. If you are in both ballet and jazz classes, wear hair in a bun. Make-up for all students includes eye shadow, mascara, blush, and true red lipstick (no pink or orange toned lip colors--they look terrible on stage). No face, hair or body glitter! Shoes for jazz/hip-hop must be tied & double-knotted; for ballet, shoes must have drawstrings tied in a bow and tucked into the shoe. Pink footed tights are required for all ballet costumes. If you need tights, purchase an extra pair in advance. . .$8 at Contempo.
