for the
MiNiFLiCK Contest

The Tofino Mudflats are an internationally-significant migratory bird stopover and home to
hundreds of species of wildlife. As part of the Tofino Mudflats Wildlife Stewardship Project, the
Raincoast Education Society (RES) promotes the protection, conservation and respectful-use of
the Tofino Mudflats. Video entries must be consistent with this theme.

Anyone who has visited and been inspired by the Tofino Mudflats is eligible to enter. If anyone less
than 18 years of age is involved in any part of the creation of a film, a parent or guardian must sign
relevant forms.

They must be original and created specifically for this contest. Entrants must complete and submit
an Entry Form with each of their films.

Entrants may submit more than one film but are eligible for one prize only.

All films must be three (3) minutes or less, including credits.

The final formats (.wmv, .avi, etc) must be playable in QuickTime, Windows Media Player, or
similar movie player on computer. Films may be created with any camera and edited with any
software but must be submitted in NTSC format on a DVD (not CD) or online. The RES does not
accept any responsibility for DVDs that do not work due to technical errors.

Any (Documentary, Drama, Comedy, Action, Animation, Children, etc)

We are looking for innovative submissions that are inspired by the Tofino Mudflats. Entries will be
judged based on the following criteria:
40% Impact of message
35% Originality and creativity
25% Technical ability (editing, sound, lighting)

Prizes will be announced soon. Prize-winners MUST be present at the MiNiFLiCK FLiNG (March
10th, 2009 at SoBo Restaurant) to claim prizes.

Return of Entries: Submitted DVDs will not be returned so be sure to keep a copy for yourself.
License Grants:
By submitting a film to the MiNiFLiCK Contest, entrants and all individuals involved, agree to grant
the RES, the perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive license, to present, reproduce, modify, publish,
edit, translate, distribute, and make derivative works of their films, without fee or penalty, on any
and all platforms (including without limitation, public presentations, internet, cable, podcast, etc) for
educational uses, promotion and presentation. Entrants will be credited wherever their video is
used. As these submissions will be shown publicly, entries must not contain content that is
defamatory, libelous, hateful, sexually explicit, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise
objectionable, as deemed by the RES.

The films must be your original creation. If you use materials that are owned by others (including
music, sound effects, footage, logos and images), you must acquire the legal right to use them.
MUSIC/SOUNDS: At the time of submission, you must provide proof of any relevant documentation
(or be in the process of acquiring it) for your use of music/sound in your film. There are many links
under “Music Tools” on the blog to assist you with acquiring music/sounds for your film. TALENT:
You must submit a Talent Release Form (on the blog) for every identifiable person or voice used in
your film. Material, Location and Music Release Forms are also available on the blog for your
convenience, should you require them. Contact the contest coordinator or RES staff if you have
any questions or difficulties with this process.
