There is an interesting article which says: Under German law, there must be no discrimination against people with disabilities, who should be integrated in the workplace as far as possible. A statutory quota has been in place for many years, which requires each employer to employ a specific number of disabled people. Read full article. 1. Disabled Pinay forced to crawl down airplane A person with disability (PWD) was surprised when she was told to pay an additional P11,000 to use a wheelchair lift at an airport in Singapore. Socorro Jabor now calls for respect for all PWDs. Please follow link. 2. Fiji Womens Forum 12th April 2012 marks a historic moment in Fijis history and the history of our womens movement. This inaugural national Womens Forum brings together women from rich and diverse backgrounds our women speak with voices that represent women with disabilities and living with HIV, as well as different faiths, cultures, sexualities, gender identities, ages, demographics and opinions. Tips to help Senior- Citizens avoid falling in homes and Hotels This article says: For those 65 and older, falling can be fatal; in fact, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that falls are the leading cause of injury-related deaths among this age group, and some 40 percent of seniors fall at least once each year., please read more. 4. Pacific Psychosocial Forum This Forum will be held from 23rd to 25th of May, 2012 in Honiara, Solomon Island. For more information, please follow link. 5. Disaster Risk Management The United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) wishes to invite proposals from individuals and organisations interested in providing technical support to the PICs towards the upcoming national progress reviews in disaster risk management (DRM). For the Terms of Reference for the technical assistance please follow link. There are three separate ToRs for the following PICs: Cook Islands and Samoa, Vanuatu, Fiji and Tonga. The submission deadline for proposals is 7th May 2012, 17:30PM Fiji Time, electronically to david.lumutivou@undp.org. 6. IDPP Offers 'Preparatory English for Graduate Studies' Summer Course The Institute on Disability and Public Policy (IDPP) is offering a virtual English language preparation course from 21 May 2012 through 13 July 2012. DPI/AP NEWSLETTER May 3, 2012 7. Women and Disabilities in Sweden (FQ) This is an alternative report to the committee of CRPD. The report should not be seen as in conflict with the alternative report that was sent from the joint and large report which was agreed on by all organisation of persons with disabilities in Sweden, but rather a complement. FQ had the opportunity to also make inputs to that report. Please find it attached (Sweden WWDs). 8. Black and Minority Ethnic Disabled People Attached please find a UK REPORT on the needs of Black and Minority Ethnic Disabled People. It has received much media attention and has been sent to parliamentarians.

B) Developments relating to social justice


1. Call for Participation, ASEAN-AU Exchange Visit for Civil Society Organizations Global context is changing. Significant change post-1945 in global order is the creation of regional organizations to handle issues that have transnational dimensions character such as conflict prevention and resolution, protection of the environment, poverty eradication, democracy and human rights, economic development, and fiscal policies. From Europe to Asia, Africa to Latin America, the Caribbean to the Pacific, regional organizations continue to play significant roles in shaping the agenda of global relevance and development. In fact, there has been an increased level of interaction between and amongst regional organizations across the region. Please find documents attached. 2. Total Reform Is Needed to Make AICHR Independent, Effective and Relevant to the ASEAN Peoples I like to share to reports. The first performance report of the AICHR 2009-2010, titled Hiding Behind Its Limits, can be accessed at http://www.forum-asia.org/? p=5451 and the second performance report of the AICHR 2010-2011, titled A Commission Shrouded in Secrecy, can be accessed at http://www.forumasia.org/?p=12507. 3. 2nd South Asia Regional Workshop on Human Rights in Development This event will take place from 22nd 28th July 2012 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION is 31st of MAY 2012. Please find more information attached. 4. Cambodia ASEAN Pride 2012 The so called Cambodia ASEAN Pride Week will be held from 12-20 May 2012. The slogan this year is: Different but the Same. There is also the Cambodia LGBT Pride art exhibitions on going during this time. For more information, please follow link. 5.
