All humans are sacred Our world and our human lives are evolving Maturity comes through working with others Humans need to be encouraged to make choices and to become responsible for their own lives as well as the lives of others We need to reflect and to seek truth and meaning

7 Traits of Human Beings



humans are created in the image and likeliness of god humans are called to happiness and holiness human are rational and free humans are moral beings humans have passions or feelings humans are blessed with a conscience humans are able to sin

Genesis One and Two

Genesis Chapter 1: The creation of the universe in 6 days Genesis Chapter 2: God rested (finished creation) on the 7th day. The remainder of the chapter "zooms in" specifically to the creation of man and woman.

4 Types of Rituals
Ritual passes a tradition Ritual is accompanied by words Ritual forms a community Ritual needs our bodies

We are naturally religious. Africans were the first people and were religious because they dressed, drank and bathed religiously.

Privatization of Religion In Canada


Most youth consider themselves religious but dont go to church Other organizations are meeting needs of people that used to be met by church Youths say they dont need church to be a good Christian Privatization is taking Christ out of culture

Unit 3 Brief Summary of Moses


At birth was abandoned in Nile due to Pharaoh ordering death of all Hebrew boys Killed an Egyptian + fled to Medina where he married Zipporah Ordered by God to free Hebrew slaves from Egypt Went to Egypt and warned Pharaoh not to deny Gods will Brought down 10 plagues upon Egypt and led Hebrews out Parted the Red Sea and led people into desert for 40 years Got laws and led them to promised land: Israel

Gods name given to Moses was Yahweh or I am who I am.

This name (Yahweh) is never spoken out of fear of misuse.

Covenant: An agreement. Torah: Heart of the first testament. Gods instruction about covenant. Chosen People: Not a privilege. A mission. Hebrews are the Chosen People. Exodus: Story of Moses Revelation: God communicates to humans revealing something Metaphor: A figure of speech, relating one thing to another Parable: Compares something we dont know to something we do Grace:

Prophet: Spokespersons for God.

On Mt. Sinai Moses received the Holy name of God and was commanded to free the Hebrew slaves.

Jesus taught in the form of parables to give us a glimpse of the mystery of the Kingdom of God and to help us understand his message of being a good person.

Methods we could use to avoid being manipulated by Media

Individualism: Another term for isolation of self in Western culture Self-understanding: Who is the self? To truly identify ourselves we need relationships with others Self-esteem: Awareness of ones own worth. Esteem can only be fulfilled by others. Atheism: People have said throughout the ages that there is no God. Atheists deny existence of God. Agnosticism: Dont know if God exists. Remain indifferent. Strong in Western culture. Reciprocity: If I do something for someone else, this person will do something for me in return. Intimacy: close bond between humans Body: Not an object. It is me and is in the image of God.

Sexuality: force and energy created in response to life. Orients us towards others. Physical + Spiritual Marriage: Covenant between man and woman Charity: Agape love. Live life of generosity Jesus preached this. Order of grace + way of dealing with other etc.

Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do to you
