Interview Etiquette Before the Interview First impressions are lasting impressions: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

Brush your teeth and use a mouthwash. Your hair should be clean and combed. Nails should be clean and trimmed. Men need to shave( in case you are not keeping a beard) Men can look their professional best wearing one of the formal dress (jeans, casuals, t shirts, sports shoes are a big NO). Shirts should be clean and ironed. Women can look their professional best with business attire( properly cleaned & ironed)

6. Your shoes should be clean and/or shined. 7. Arrive at least 15 minutes before your interview. The extra minutes will also give time to fill out any forms or applications that might be required. 8. Take a hard copy of your CV, print out of the interview letter & all the documents as listed in the interview letter as they are mandatory from the company side in a plastic folder. 9. Always look at the company website to know more about the company you intend to join & ask for the job description(JD) from the consultant to have clarity regarding new job responsibilities. 10. Don't take your cell phone with you during the interview in general mode. If you have to have your cell phone, turn the phone off or in silent mode. Do not put your cell phone on vibration mode. Switch on immediately after the end of all rounds of the interview. 11. Read your CV carefully before the conduction of interview.

Interview Etiquette During the Interview


1. Make a positive and professional first impression by being

assertive.
2. Greetings to the interviewers by saying for e.g Good Morning or

as the time of time of the day be. Introducing oneself by name to all the interviewers in the panel. 3. Smile. When you smile you'll look more relaxed and confident. Plus, you'll feel more relaxed. Always have the correct sitting

posture as shown in the picture.


4. Be alert and interested from beginning to end. Project keen

interest in the company and the interviewers; never act disinterested. Do not look at the surroundings of the interview room in investigative manner. 5. Be calm and confident but never egotistical or aggressive. Do not make any loud gestures using your hands. 6. Be positive - never get defensive at any question or comment at job interviews 7. Maintain eye contact with the interviewer/s without crossing the boundary into staring 8. Reinforce your professionalism and your ability to communicate effectively by speaking clearly and avoiding "uhs", "you knows", and slang language yaaretc. 9. Speak of your accomplishments with specific examples. Speak of the contributions you would like to do once you join them after selection. 10. Don't say anything negative about any former employer or colleagues. 11. When asking them questions, be sure to ask about aspects other than just money. 12. Negotiations regarding salary, designation & joining time and to be done in a professional manner. Do not reply negatively. Avoid statements like I am not interested/ I want this much salary/ I will not join below this amount. Give reference of any offer from some other company in case you are very sure to join this particular organization. 13. Reason for leaving the present organization to be answered professionally eg-

For better prospect/ for better learning / for learning of new systems.NEVER GIVE A FEELING TO THE INTERVIEWERS OF SHORT TERM ASSOCIATION WITH THEM AFTER JOINING 14. Don't ask for refreshments of any kind. Don't excuse yourself to go to the bathroom during the interview. 15. Say thanks at the end of the interviewer by saying Thanks Sir or Thanks Mam.
