How to prepare for RRB Exams Recruitment will be based on the performance in the written tests for the

prescribed posts. Question paper will be of objective type. 100 to 120 questions will be present. Test duration is 90 minutes. 1/3 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer. There are four divisions in the question paper. 1. General awareness 2. General English/General Hindi 3. Arithmetic 4. Analytical and qualitative skills 1. General awareness: General awareness plays a vital role in achieving the job through this test. More questions are likely to be from standard general knowledge and current affairs. Important aspects to be prepared for standard G.K. are International organizations conferences, work nature, awards, gifts, sports, its importance, Indian tradition and culture, science and technology related aspects, geographical terminology, important dates, books and authors, tallest, highest, longest in the world. National and International affairs, persons and places in news are important. Other important aspects relating to the exam: o Indian History: Ancient, middle age and modern history (Independence movement) of India. o Indian political system: Recent amendments in the constitution, newly amended salaries of the famous personalities, parliamentary committees. o World and Indian geographical status: Indian physical features, rivers, mineral resources, communication field, transport facilities. o Indian financial system o General science: Physical and chemical sciences, botany and zoology, science and technology.

Questions can be asked in all the above aspects based on fundamentals only. To prepare for this 6th to 10th class science and social books will be of use. To gain command over G.K., current affairs regular reading of newspapers, special essays, editorials and magazines will be of immense use. Also books like Manorama year book, India year book will be useful. 2. General English: For this test English grammar read up to the level of 10th standard is sufficient. Studying Wren and Martin book and the exercises in this book should be practiced. More concentration should be given with regard to synonyms, antonyms, one word substitutions, prepositions, verbs, tenses, question tags, comprehension passages. Awareness should be improved in Verbs which are the life of the language. 3. Arithmetic: Questions are asked from simplifications, number systems, time and distance, time and work, profit and loss, percentages, averages, compound interest, simple interest, geometry. BODMAS formula should be followed. Problems should be solved and practiced using formulae. Maths books from 6th to 8th class should be prepared. There are more chances of getting the job if each and every point is prepared concentrated. Along with these topics in the Intermediate maths like probabilities, permutations and combinations should be prepared. Quantitative Aptitude book written by R S Agaarwal will be of more use. 4. Analytical and Quantitative skills Candidates talent in the analysis, reasoning and numerical skills will be tested in this sector.



RRB Joint Employment Notice 2009 Application Form 1.The application format as per Annexure 1 & 2 should be filled up by the candidate in his/her own handwriting, with blue or black ball point pen (not in pencil, fountain pen or gelpen) dated and signed. Only international numerical i.e. 1,2,3 etc. should be used. The application form should be filled up in English or in Hindi only, strictly observing all the instructions given in this Employment Notice The candidates should affix his/her normal signature in English or in Hindi in the application form. Applications signed in capital letters/spaced out letters will be treated as invalid. 2. The candidate's Name, Address with Pin Code, Date of Birth, Father's Name and nearest Railway Station should be written legibly in English in bold capital letters, even if the candidate fills up the application form in Hindi. 3. Photographs: One recent (not earlier than three months from the date of application) colour passport size photograph with clear front view of the candidate without cap and sunglasses should be pasted on the application form in the space provided. Xerox copy of photographs is not permitted. The candidates should sign in the space provided in the box below the photograph. One identical extra colour passport size photograph should be enclosed with the application, indicating candidate's name and category number on the reverse of the photograph. Candidates may note that the RRB may reject at any stage for pasting old/unclear photograph on the application or for any significant variations between photograph pasted in the application and the actual physical appearance of the candidate. 4. Marks of Identification: In item No.8 of application form, the candidates should indicate any clear visible marks of

identification on their body like a mole on the nose, cutmark on the forehead in the left side or a scar mark below the left arm, etc. The application form of the candidate is liable to be rejected if he/she does not indicate clear identification marks. 5. Declaration: The candidate should copy the paragraph at item No. 13 of the information sheet in English/Hindi in their own running handwriting (not in capital/spaced out letters), otherwise their applications will be rejected. 6. Thumb Impression: The candidate should put their Left Hand Thumb impression at the designated places in the Application Form and in the Information Sheet. The Thumb impressions must be clear and complete. Ridges of the Thumb impressions must be clearly visible. 7. Applications which are illegible, incomplete, unsigned, signed in capital letters, not in prescribed format, without photo of candidate, not having IPO/DD or having IPO/DD purchased before date of issue of and after closing date of Employment Notice are liable to be rejected. 8. The envelope containing the application should be clearly super-scribed "Application for the Post of _________________________Category No.__________ Employment Notice No________________ & Community (SC/ST/OBC/PWD/Ex-SM)". If the post and category number is not indicated on the top of the envelope containing application, the same will not be entertained. Online Registration/Online Examination: 1. Candidates have the option to fill up their application online i.e. for online registration. Forthis, they should visit the website of the RRB and fill up their detail Bio-data in the application format & information sheet given on the website. The candidate should take a print of filled in Application Form and Information Sheet, paste their passport size colour photograph, put their signature and left hand thumb

impressions at the relevant places and send it to the RRB along with the examination fees (wherever applicable), copy of date of birth certificate, educational and/0r professional qualification certificate, Medical certificate for candidates for the posts of ASM/ALP/Motorman, SC/ST/OBC certificate, self declaration for OBC as given in Annexure 5, discharge certificate in case of Ex- Servicemen and disability certificate in case of persons with disabilities. In case the above mentioned printed copy of on-line application along with necessary annexure does not reach the RRB within the closing date, the online registration will become invalid. 2. The RRB may conduct computerized online examination for all or any of the categories of posts mentioned in this Employment Notice for which the candidates should have knowledge of computer-operation. In such cases, the detailed instructions for online examination will be sent to the candidates along with their call letters.
