What are the key differences and similarities between the objectives and funding of public, private and voluntary sector sport organisations? I have looked into the differences and similarities of the three types of sporting organisations public, private and volunteer. I have chosen David Lloyd for private, St.Brendens r.f.c for volunteer and Easton Leisure centre for public. Similarities Government Grants To start with both public and volunteer organisations (Easton Leisure Centre & St.Brendens) will be eligible receive Government Grants. This is because they are a non profit establishment, plus it is going to be going towards a non profit organisation and grassroots sports. David Lloyd will not be able to qualify for these grants as they are a private society as its not going towards a good cause, besides David Lloyd can make money of other means for example, membership fees. Non Government Grants Also the public and volunteers organisations could qualify too receive Non Government Grants. This is because other companys would put money into another company (not a private one) in order to see a change within the establishment, but they wouldnt expect the money back in return, they just want to see changes happen during a certain time of period. David Lloyd wouldnt receive these Non Government Grants as they are a private company so other companies wouldnt want to put their money into a private organisation and not expect something back. It would be a waste of their money.

Member Loans Another similarity I have found is that private organisations such as David Lloyd can qualify to receive member loans but at the moment David Lloyd has received any as they have a board of executives and they havent chosen to use it. Whereas public and volunteer organisations like Easton Leisure Centre & St.Brendens r.fc will not meet the requirements to receive any member loans. Because if you have a public organisation you will not find yourself in any financial situation as it is managed by the government/council and also St.Brendens r.fc wouldnt receive any member loans as they do not make any profit , so where they do not have the funding they wouldnt be able to pay it back. Member Subscriptions A different similarity I have found is that private and volunteer organisations can be eligible for member subscriptions. The reason being this is that both organisations the customers would pay a specific fee each week/month/year to be part of the organisation, meaning that you can use their facilities etc. But public organisations wouldnt be able to charge any member subscriptions as for example Easton Leisure Centre, there is no scheme in paying money to the council because that who it is managed by. Lottery Funding Also lottery funding is another similarity I have found. Both volunteer and public organisations can be suitable for lottery funding. The reason being is that the funding given out by the national lottery is going towards a good cause. For example St.Brendens uses the Combe Dingle Sports Complex Grounds. The Sports Complex had received a successful bid of 2,219,200 from the National Lottery Sports budget. This went towards a project that costs 3 million. Also Easton Leisure Centre can come under the circumstances in receiving lottery funding but after researching this section I was unable to display any relevant results. Private Investment Loans Another similarity I have come across is that private and volunteer organisations can succeed in receiving private investment loans. David Lloyd has received private investment from both companys, the vehicle of property entrepreneur brothers Ian and Richard Livingstone and also the HBOS's Uberior private equity division. The reason David Lloyd has received private investments is because in the past David Lloyd found there selfs in some financial problems, and thats why these two companys put their money into the David Lloyd organisation. Although volunteer organisations can receive private investments they would not apply for it as they do not have the money to repay the investors back.

Differences Financial Insinuation Loans Private organisations can be eligible for financial institution loans, but organisations such as David Lloyd dont receive any financial institution loans. But if they were to receive financial institution loans the bank can have the power to take any facilities from them what David Lloyd own if they do not pay back the loans given by the bank. But organisations like Easton Leisure Centre & St.Brendens will not qualify for these financial loans as the leisure centre is managed by the government/council so the back would give them any grants. And St.Brendens wouldnt receive any as they do not make any profit in there organisation to pay it back. Donations Also I have found another difference that volunteer organisations will be suitable to receive donations as they are a non profit organisation, they make no money and thats why people of the public would want to donate money to their organisation; to help the establishment out. St.Brendens has received donations as they have done events, for example bag packing at a local supermarket. The reason the organisation do this is because it helps the establishment out, as they are making no profit. I can tell you this as I am a member of the St.Brendens organisation. So public and private organisations will not receive any donations from people as firstly people wouldnt want to be donating money to the council/government in the public organisation and secondly citizens wouldnt want to b donating money into a private organisation as they make profit.
