Iowa City West High School will be presented with the Army National Guard national ranking trophy as part of the sixth annual MaxPreps Tour of Champions for Boys’ Basketball and the fifth annual MaxPreps Tour of Champions for Girls’ Basketball. The Iowa City West Boys finished ranked No. 28 and the Girls finished ranked No. 69 in the MaxPreps Freeman rankings. The presentation will be made at a spring awards assembly. Iowa City West High School won the boys’ and girls’ Class 4A state championships, only the 4 school to win both titles in the same season. The boys beat Sioux City East 67-52 championship game to win their fourth state title and the girls beat Ankeny 61-52 to win their first state title. Both teams are one of just twenty high schools nationwide being honored on the sixth annual boys’ basketball and fifth annual girls’ basketball MaxPreps Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard. MaxPreps ranks more than 20,000 varsity high school boys’ and 20,000 varsity high school girls’ basketball teams.


The MaxPreps Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard recognizes the finest high school football teams in the country through various celebrations and formal ceremonies. The Tour was inaugurated in 2005 and honored 10 premier football programs. Presently, the Football Tour honors 50 of the top scholastic teams in America. In 2007, boys’ basketball was added. Girls’ basketball became a part of the award program the following year. Girls’ volleyball was added in 2010 and girls’ soccer is the newest addition in 2012. Representatives from the Army National Guard will present each team with the Army National Guard national ranking trophy in recognition of their outstanding achievements throughout the 20112012 seasons.
