Preparation – prepares students with knowledge and skills & training they need to succeed. Competition – to ensure our students are globally competitive. Equity – to ensure that our expectations are consistent for all and NOT dependent on a student’s zip code or family income. Clarity – ensures that the standards are focused, coherent and clear. Collaboration – these standards were created collaboratively with states and districts throughout the country.
National PTA adopted a position statement supporting clear, high standards in 1981. PTA is the leading voice speaking on behalf of parents. PTAs have the ability to be the vehicle of information as states begin the implementation stage of CCSSI. In July of 2011, Delaware PTA received a $40,000.00 grant from National PTA via the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to educate all parents on the implementation & sustainability of common core standards in Delaware. Both National and Delaware PTA's role is to serve as partners with education leaders and demonstrate support of quality education for all children.
