12 Sophie: Hello 4KM and 4KJ: Hi! Miss Hannan: We have 4KM and 4KJ here today 4KM and 4KJ: Hi Sophie! Sophie: Hi I’m excited to meet you! Olivia S: As this is your first time renovating, did you like it and would you do it again? Sophie: Ummm hmmm, I think I would do it again, I think it was lots of fun. It was really hard and stressful but it was still really fun and we learnt a lot so it was a good experience. Olivia S: I have another question. Did Dale really feel better on Swisse? Sophie: He really really did! He just took his vitamins without anyone telling him to and he was always bright and sleeping well. Hannah: What was the hardest thing about being on The Block? Sophie: The hardest thing was the late nights. Dale especially hardly got any sleep but he let me sleep a little bit more than him. There was so much to do and there were deadlines. That was definitely the hardest thing! Adam: What was your favourite thing you experienced on The Block? Sophie: I really liked the upholstery challenge. But I really liked being crazy and being able to express myself in the room. We get crazier as the series goes on. Maha: What was the most exciting thing that happened while you were there? Sophie: The most exciting thing hasn’t happened yet so I can’t tell you exactly but we start to get some really good scores from the judges. It’s exciting to see Scotty turn the board around when we’re standing in the workshop. Charlotte: How is your hand going? Sophie: Good question! It is much better, thank you. It is just a little knick. It bled a lot but it wasn’t too bad. I was cutting a lot which you didn’t see on the telly. I rest it on the saw horse while I was cutting and then it happened. But it wasn’t as bad as you saw on the tv. Charlotte: It looked like you were having fun, were you really? Sophie: It’s a lot of fun when things are going well but it gets a bit stressful when things don’t go well or Keith doesn’t let you do things. But overall it’s a blast and really really fun. James: Would you live in the house you’re renovating? Sophie: I would definitely love to live in the house we renovated. Now that it’s pretty much done it’s awesome, there is no dust or rubbish anywhere. Having the three levels and being in that position in Melbourne was awesome. Miss Jordan: Is your own house styled in a similar way?
Sophie: It is but because we’re renting we can’t do any structural changes. Libby: What was your favourite room to renovate so far? Sophie: I think my favourite room….it’s a toss up….my favourite is probably the kitchen and the backyard. Miss Jordan: We look forward to seeing those ones! Brodey: What were you feeling when Dale asked you if you were a zombie? Sophie: Umm was I asleep? I think I was pretty tired. I actually didn’t remember it until I saw it on tv last night. I elbowed him last night when I saw it on telly and said “I didn’t know you were doing that with the diary cam!” Olivia Y: Is Keith really as bad as he looks? Sophie: Keith really wants the houses to be the best that they can be so they are structurally safe. We were lucky that Keith was very nice to us because we did what he said. He realised we were first time renovators and would listen to him. Some of the other couples wanted to do things their way and he got a big angry. But he’s really a nice guy. Hayden: What was the scariest thing on The Block? Sophie: Beside the rollercoaster? Umm, it was scary getting the judges scores. I nearly broke Dale’s hand squeezing it so hard. Every reveal was scary! Lilli: Which challenge did you like doing the most? Sophie: I really liked the upholstery challenge. But I really enjoyed the table making challenge that comes up. There is also a challenge like the inter-school sports. We have one of those - house sports. It’s really fun. Trent: What got you into the style of vintage? Sophie: Dale and I really like recycling and not necessarily buying new stuff if there is old stuff you can keep. We like to preserve things. Also, other couples go and buy new things and they always look the same. We wanted ours to stand out. We like to use antiques. And we like using things for new purposes – like the bed head and the light made out of jars. Ethan: Who do you reckon will be the hardest to beat? Sophie: Brad and Lara have a big house which is hard to beat. The brothers have been a bit sneaky with their lounge and kitchen, that’s a bit different to ours. I think Brad and Lara have a house that is really neutral and simple that might appeal to people. Hopefully people get our “creative weirdness” and they’ll like it. Ethan: What challenge was hardest? Sophie: The mirror one was really hard; we didn’t know what to do and we were just trying to make it well. That one was probably the hardest. Actually there is one coming up – it’s a builder app. Miss Jordan: Did you know what the others were doing each week or did people keep it secret? Sophie: We were very open and told everyone what we were doing. We were in Brad and Lara’s house all the time looking at styling things. Brandon: How much money do you think your house will go for?
Sophie: Good question. They say about a million dollars. But it could be a little bit less or Brad and Lara’s might go for maybe 1.3 million because theirs is bigger. It varies but maybe around a million. Clancy: Have you made any friends on The Block and who? Sophie: I’ve definitely become closest with Lara. Even during elimination week, we met each other and became friends from the start. And we hung out with the brothers because they were right next door to us. We are still friend with Dan and Dani, we’re just not as close. Sophie (4KJ): Which couple did you dislike the most? Sophie (The Block): I don’t dislike any of them, I’m just closer to Brad and Lara and the brothers, more than Dan and Dani. We’re still friends, just not as close. Miss Jordan: Do any other couples live in Melbourne? Sophie: Dan and Dani. Brad and Lara might come down this week I think. Indiana: What will you do when The Block is finished? Sophie: I’m still teaching. I teach grade 5/6. (Sophie gives us a tour of her classroom via webcam). We’ll see what happens. I think Dale likes the telly a lot so we might see more of him! Shakira: What is your favourite room design? Sophie: I like a few different pieces of furniture that we make. You’ll see it next week, a cool thing we make. There is a big twist at the end of the show. You’ll have to watch! Lachlan: What was the most expensive room for you to renovate? Sophie: We got lots of vouchers from different sponsors. So in terms of that, I’d say probably the kitchen. Because we got $20,000 from Freedom and another $5,000 or $10,000 from E&S Trading for the oven etc. But if you include money we got from challenges and stuff, we probably spent the most on the backyard – for plants and timber for the deck etc. Becky: What is your favourite colour to paint the walls? Sophie: In the twist…..we do a really cool colour. I like it because it’s called “Happy”, it’s a bright yellow. I was going through the Dulux cards and I thought, it is called “Happy” I have to get that! Miss Hannan: Thank you so much for taking the time to talk to the grade. 4KM and 4KJ: Good luck! Sophie: They were great questions. Miss Hannan: What should the students do to help you? Sophie: Go on The Block msn website and vote for us to win the Suzuki car. 4KM and 4KJ: Thank you, bye!
