The Miriam Tlali Reading & Book Club celebrates Africa Month in African style. An epic reading session, themed Buisa Aforika, Read Afrika, Funda Afrika , aimed at celebrating Africa and her authors while we encourage reading and appreciation of African languages, will take place on the 26th May 2012 at the African Literature Bookshop, 191 Louis Botha Avenue, Cnr. 8th Street, Orange Grove from 14H00 to 17H00. Popular stage and television actors Lesego Motsepe, Tshepo Maseko and their counterparts from the popular Muvhango soapie, will take part in the readathon of some of the books by local and other authors from other parts of the Continent. Books that will be read include: Ngisinga eMpumalanga by Otty Nxumalo, Kana Ga Kere Ga Twe by Mosala Huma, Yakhal Indoda by Siphiwo Mahala, Maphefo le Mmaphefo by MV Molele, A Ride on the Whirlwind by Sipho Sepamla, If I could Sing Selected Poems, by Keorapetse Kgositsile, Beautys gift by Sindiwe Magona, Ximambana by Mary Mabuza, Tikhatsi letimatima by JJ Ncongwane, Tutudi Ha e Patwe by Mathene Mahanke and Vhuanzwo by HR Tshianane. May 25th is the day in which Africans around the globe celebrate everything that makes them proudly African, its people, history, cuisine, and culture. Therefore, literature is a mirror that provides a reflection of these scenarios, making us to know who we are, what we stand for and, most importantly, depict the African society we come from, continue to live in and see a positive future for, said Sindiswa Seakhoa, Convenor of the Miriam Tlali Reading and Book Club The works of these authors, amongst others, have shaped our literary landscape and our diverse cultures and languages, continued Seakhoa. It is indeed, she further said, an honour to have all these practitioners of the stage and small screen support such an initiative of reading to the masses, including the kiddies and teens sessions as part of their social responsibility. The flurry of activities at the Miriam Tlali Reading and Book Club will include book exhibitions and sales, African cuisine, musical performances, indigenous culture-inspired garments, jewellery by KwaNtu Entertainment Designs and other forms of artefacts; all at very affordable prices.
