EXT. GREENVILLE - NIGHT Downtown Greenville. It's a speck on the map. Dead. The main drag is a single crossroads. A 4-way stop instead of a light. We hear a NEWSCASTER'S VOICE as we quickly explore the town center ... NEWSCASTER (O.S.) ... mystery surrounding the disappearance of three high school students in Evansburgh continues today with the apparent suicide of seventeen year old Richard Knox, who was taken in for questioning as a person of interest and subsequently released due to lack of evidence. Many believe that Knox was either responsible for the disappearances or had some knowledge that would lead to the location of missing teens, Jason Thomas, Hubert Wheeler, and JoAnn Skinner. Authorities are continuing their investigation and quote Will not stop until the missing kids are found ... A few shops, all closed for the night - a mom and pop hardware store, a barbershop, and of course a church. No cars on the road. A tattered American flag hangs limply in front of the tiny post office. This place makes Evansburgh look like a metropolis. There is some sign of life at the end of the main drag, however. A small bar. A few cars - a beat-up pickup truck, a few bondo-ed Chyslers, and a Harley - are parked outside. A BUZZING neon sign outside reads: BULLDOG'S. The sign is completed by a crappy-looking neon bulldog head beneath the words. NEWSCASTER (O.S.) (CONT'D) ... but disappearances aren't the only tragedy haunting the halls of Evansburgh High. Two other students have been hospitalized at County General. Johnny Watkins and Michael Dwyer are both in critical but stable condition with what doctors are calling an unknown necrotic disease ...
2. CONTINUED: We approach the bar's front doors and ... CUT TO: INT. BULLDOG'S BAR - NIGHT Enter the bar. The newscaster can be seen talking on a small television above the bar. The place is small and dingy and dominated by American beer signs. There's a jukebox in the corner by the lone pool table. There are hardly any patrons in the bar. TWO GUYS in their twenties - good-looking ROUGHNECKS - play a game of pool. A LONE GEEZER stares into his empty beer mug at the end of the bar. The BARTENDER is wiping the bar's surface while he idly watches the news. A WAITRESS is grabbing a pitcher of beer off of the bar. There's one other patron in the bar, sitting near the television. A lone FEMALE who looks mighty comfortable in her spot. NEWSCASTER ... The nature and cause of the disease are currently unknown and the two boys remain in semicatatonic states. Hospital officials state that the disease seems to be blood-borne but that they're keeping the youths under quarantine until more is known about their condition ... And now on to our local weather with Skip Ferrin. Skip? SKIP FERRIN We've got an early cold snap coming in the next few days, CarlaThe waitress carries the pitcher of beer to the two guys at the pool table. They're TATER and BOBBY HARDING. Only a little over a year apart and immediately recognizable as brothers. They're good old boys - t-shirts, faded jeans, big belt buckles. Tater, the younger of the two, is the more clean-cut one. His short military cut is hidden beneath a Red Man Chewing Tobacco baseball hat. Bobby is a long-hair with mutton chops. TATER (referring to TV) Nekro-otic Disease? That what they callin AIDS these days? Fucking Evansburgh faggots. (MORE) (CONTINUED)
The waitress sets down the pitcher of beer. Tater smiles and grabs his crotch. Think they're all high-falootin 'cause they got a movie theater and a Gelato Queen. who's lining up a shot and doesn't seem to be paying any attention.3. is all. but Brandy knows how to handle herself and this is just business as usual at Bulldog's. Tater. BRANDY Little is probably right. TATER (CONT'D) Wouldn't fucking live in that shit town if you held a gun to my sack. You don't gotta be like that. all's you gotta do is ask . BILLY You sure you're all right with another one? Dolly PFFTS drunkenly. She's obviously got a good buzz on. She points to the empty beer and shot glasses. Her expression is hard to read. The Lone Female is DOLLY McQUEARY. Billy eyeballs her. a tough-looking bald guy in his 40s with a handlebar mustache and two thick arms full of tattoos . wipes the foam off of her lips with the back of her hand. Dolly? DOLLY Didn't wave you down here for sparkling conversation. Might get you somewhere . She SIGHS.. The kind of woman you'd pass on the street and never wonder what her life was like or where she was going. A semi-butch-y haircut. the flirting going on from her POV. Her general demeanor is punctuated by the MAUDLIN COUNTRY TUNE on the jukebox. Dolly is maybe 25 years old. Plaid flannel shirt. She seems to be swaying slightly on her stool and her eyes are a little un-focused. but don't hear. Light mustache.he belongs to the Harley parked outside.4. Billy! DOLLY Billy the Bartender sidles up to her. CONTINUED: (2) BRANDY (CONT'D) You could stand to learn some manners from your big brother. BILLY Another round already. Dolly motions to the BARTENDER. BELCHES and isn't very ladylike about it. no makeup.. Is she grossed out? Turned on? Both? She turns back to the bar. There's an empty shot glass next to it. Not much to look at. overweight. Dolly drains her beer glass. slump-shouldered. We see. particularly how she was watching the flirting in the corner. which lingers on Tater and Brandy. There's a sadness that surrounds her. Across the bar. Brandy is flirting with them both and they know it. (CONTINUED) . her attention on the glass of beer in front of her. we see the LONE FEMALE watching the exchange.
fuck you. you best get to pouring. She's putting Tater and Billy's pitcher money into the register. Billy. looks at Dolly. One more and I'm out of this dump. We see Brandy take a quick glance over her shoulder at Billy before she shoves a couple of dollars into her bra. DOLLY Ah. mutters. Billy quickly and expertly pours a shot of whiskey and a glass of Budweiser for Dolly. I'm sorry. anyway. Dolly.5. Billy realizes that he's said that too loud and that Dolly heard it. (CONTINUED) . BILLY (CONT'D) Shit. He goes to the other end of the bar to tend to the Old Geezer. One more round. I didn't meanDOLLY I did. DOLLY If there was any other dump.. BILLY All right. BILLY (to self) I shudder at the thought . stares at Brandy. Billy hesitates.. Then I'm cutting you off. CONTINUED: (3) DOLLY What're you? My fucking mother? Billy shakes his head. BILLY You sure spend a lot of time here for a dump. rest assured I'd be there instead of here. Brandy has now made her way behind the bar. Now do your job. Dolly downs the shot. Now if you don't want to be compared to a withered old cunt like her. Dolly's POV drunkenly scans Brandy's body.
DOLLY That's a real pretty skirt you got on.6. Dolly stumbles toward the exit. Until the pickup RUMBLES to life. finally gets behind the wheel. BRANDY Another UNCOMFORTABLE BEAT as Dolly drunkenly stares at Brandy. turns to see Dolly staring at her. you sure you all right to drive. GREENVILLE .. I'm not sure. BILLY Hey. slowly peels herself off of the stool. CONTINUED: (4) Brandy shuts the cash register.. Dolly? DOLLY Nope. Brandy saunters off. She drops her keys trying to open the door. heading back toward the pool table and the Harding brothers. The only sounds are the muffled music coming from Bulldog's jukebox and night insects in the trees that are everywhere. An uncomfortable BEAT between the two of them. Greenville is disturbingly quiet. (CONTINUED) . Dolly. chugs the rest of the beer. Billy does nothing to stop her as she exits. DOLLY (CONT'D) Hi. BRANDY Uh . I guess. Brandy. Thanks.NIGHT Dolly stumbles to the pickup truck parked outside. Dolly SIGHS. Brandy can hardly conceal her disgust. Brandy. But I'm about to find out. CUT TO: EXT.
The truck SKIDS to a halt. A lone drunken tear slides down her cheek. her mouth dropping open. distant. eyes wide. DOLLY (CONT'D) Shit. Dreading it. (CONTINUED) . and lands in the road behind the truck. CUT TO: EXT. She's not only drunk. Dolly SCREAMS and slams on her brakes. The truck weaves back and forth across the faded yellow center line. Get a hold of yourself. CUT TO: INT. CONTINUED: Dolly carefully and slowly backs up and heads out of town. sobering her. COUNTRY ROAD . dead. the engine sputtering then dying out. Then another. She mumbles to herself.NIGHT Dolly's pickup is the only car on the road. She's drunk and she knows it.7. DOLLY Goddammit. GetHer eyes widen as something large and white suddenly appears in the middle of the road. Dolly. a dark and winding two-laner surrounded by trees on either side. but appears distracted by thought. DOLLY'S TRUCK . cracks the windshield. driving like a robot. Whatever she hit rolls up the hood. The dread cuts through the alcohol. The air is filled with the sound of nature at night and the cooling TICK of the truck's dead engine. Dolly slowly makes her way around the truck. Dolly opens the truck door and slowly gets out. but it's too late. Dolly looks in the rearview mirror but can't see anything back there. hands clenching the steering wheel. Dolly sits behind the wheel. Her face is expressionless.NIGHT Dolly is staring ahead. She stops. Shit shit shit.
but as Dolly scrutinizes the body. shit. DOLLY (CONT'D) No. her skin. She stands there in the middle of the road. There's still a metal shackle with a few links of chain attached to one of Deadgirl's wrists. CONTINUED: DOLLY (CONT'D) Oh god. Her eyes are closed.. It should be no secret to us that the woman is the DEADGIRL herself. Dolly sees the Deadgirl's condition. Shit .. DOLLY (CONT'D) What the fuck-? But Dolly has other concerns.. covers her mouth with her hand. Then her curiosity slowly takes over from her fear . The naked woman doesn't move. No. A naked woman? Alone.. She initially looks normal enough. Dolly slowly walks in for a closer look.. DOLLY (CONT'D) Oh god. Please don't let her be . Dolly kneels down. Dolly takes a few shaky breaths. She's run over someone and she's drunk. no. Ah. sprawled out over the center line. She's covered in scratches from being in the woods for a few weeks. Also sees the lacerations around her wrists and ankles from her bindings. somewhat obscured. Dolly slowly approaches. Dolly begins to shake uncontrollably. running through the woods out here? The woman is only lit by the red taillights. rolls the Deadgirl over. even in the red light appears mottled and not quite the right color.. her hand out to touch the Deadgirl.. her face still ravaged from DG1. No . she begins to realize that there's something strange about this girl. is still injured from the events in DG1 ... We come around to see what she sees. It's a naked woman laying there. DOLLY (CONT'D) Aw.. (CONTINUED) . staring down. calms herself.8.
just keep calm. The Deadgirl's body is in the back. the tarp flutters.. Dolly's POV: Her truck bed doesn't have a tail-gate on it. DOLLY'S TRUCK . A few rocks weight the corners of the tarp down. concentrates on acting like nothing's wrong. Nothing. her forehead wet with sweat. Who knows if the people in the car behind can see it or not. covered by a tarpaulin. We can't see who is in it. Dolly keeps her eyes on the road. but so do vehicles on this road. A pair of headlights comes around a bend in the road behind the truck..NIGHT Dolly is driving the truck down the lonely road. Shit . The vehicle rushes up to the rear of the truck. CONTINUED: (2) Dolly checks the Deadgirl for a pulse or any other sign of life. so it can be seen into by any vehicle that approaches from the rear. It HONKS loudly.. Dolly stands back up.. Gotta figure this out. We catch a glimpse of the Deadgirl's foot beneath there. scaring Dolly. wrings her hands . quickly deciding what to do. Dolly. (CONTINUED) . CUT TO: INT. DOLLY (CONT'D) No. She listens again. The car engine is getting louder.. but it's billowing in the wind nevertheless. Shit! Dolly looks around. Goddammit! DOLLY In the back of the truck. The headlights light up the cab of the truck. A car of some sort with a loud engine. Sound travels far out here in the country. Dolly stares at the Deadgirl's body .. She's breathing heavily. getting closer. She ventures a glance over her shoulder into the truck bed. The car is only a few feet from the back of the truck. GottaA SOUND gets her attention.9. paces in the road. It's a CAR ENGINE in the distance. DOLLY (CONT'D) Okay.
The car jerks into the other lane. As she does so. The paint is peeling everywhere. The yard is horribly overgrown with tall grass.. CONTINUED: The car's engine REVS and it HONKS again. (CONTINUED) . rolls down the driver's side window. and lots of old. exposing rotten wood. A barn that looks perilously close to toppling over in the house's backyard .10. waves the car around her.light can be seen passing through the massive gaps in the barn's sides. TATER Get that shit off the fucking road if you're gonna drive that slow. Dolly GROANS. rusted farm machinery. The place looks like a country edition of the television show HOARDERS . it comes around a wooded bend and parks near the house. CUT TO: EXT. The dark window rolls down . The property is surrounded on all sides by thick woods.. It's gone. A ramshackle two-story house with a porch all the way around. tires... you drunken-ass heifer! Dolly flips him off.part junkyard. Bobby drives silently next to him. MCQUEARY FARM .. He LAUGHS as the window rolls up and Bobby guns it. There's more rusted junk in the yard: dis-used birdbaths. revealing McQueary Farm. Shortly. Dolly breathes a giant SIGH of relief. We can hear Dolly's truck before we can see it. that was close .. some of it covered by tarps. It's Tater Harding in the passenger seat. the car disappearing around another bend.NIGHT We pan down from the bright and full moon. REVS up. DOLLY Shit. some of it not. The porch is stacked high with what appears to be old appliances and furniture. Dolly drives on slowly and cautiously. pulls even with the truck . she slows down to a crawl. part decrepit antique shop.
11. CONTINUED: Dolly turns off the engine and sits there behind the wheel, trying to calm down. We hear the TICK of the engine cooling, the chirp of crickets and tree frogs. Dolly gets out of the truck, quietly shuts the door, looks up to the house, which is dark and silent. She stands and thinks for a few beats before heading off into the junk-strewn yard. She passes metal barrels, piles of tires, and more. Stops in front of a metal machine half covered with a tarp. She pulls the tarp away and we can see that the machine is a huge, industrial wood chipper. Dolly stares at the machine for a BEAT, thinking. She SIGHS, trudges back the truck ... ... Dolly tears the tarp off the Deadgirl. She grabs Deadgirl by one arm and drags her to the end of the truck bed. Dolly hops down. Stares at the Deadgirl. We can see her clearly in the moonlight. She's still alluring even though she's basically wrecked. Dolly looks sad for a BEAT. DOLLY Goddammit, I'm sorry. I really am ... But what the fuck were you doing running around out there like that? (beat) And where the fuck did you come from? Dolly SIGHS, grasps Deadgirl's wrist, bends over to drag her over her shoulder. The Deadgirl TWITCHES and GROANS, scaring Dolly. Dolly SQUEAKS once, drops Deadgirl's arm, skips away, turns and stares ... Deadgirl doesn't move. Dolly, standing tense a few feet away, stares at the body. A few TENSE BEATS. Nothing. Dolly wonders if she imagined it. Or maybe it was the body shifting, releasing air ... Deadgirl's hand and face twitch and another MOAN escapes her. Dolly's face goes pale. Oh shit. DOLLY (CONT'D) CUT TO:
12. INT. MCQUEARY HOME - NIGHT The front door opens. Dolly, the Deadgirl draped over her shoulder, flicks on the overhead light. The inside of the house is worse than the outside. Piles of old newspapers, trash, cardboard boxes full of anything and everything spilling from broken seams. A cluttered mess with no rhyme or reason. Deadgirl MOANS as Dolly drags her into the house. DOLLY (whispering) Shhh. It's gonna be okay. Dolly gets Deadgirl to a couch in the middle of the front room. She has to set Deadgirl down to remove a bunch of debris from the couch's surface. She gets the Deadgirl onto the couch. Deadgirl sits there, staring off into space. DOLLY (CONT'D) You're fine, right? You're okay. She looks at the suppurating wounds all over Deadgirl's body, frowns. DOLLY (CONT'D) Yeah. Fine. Dolly SNIFFS the air, makes a face of disgust. DOLLY (CONT'D) How long you been out there, girl? You need a shower. Deadgirl just sits there on the couch, blank. DOLLY (CONT'D) You're probably cold, huh? Dolly digs through a pile of shit near the couch, pulls out a dusty blanket. She wraps it around Deadgirl's shoulders. DOLLY (CONT'D) Not much for talking, are you? (to self) Well, I'm just glad I didn't kill you, cause that would have been messy. For both of us. Deadgirl doesn't respond.
13. CONTINUED: DOLLY (CONT'D) What's wrong with you, huh? You retarded or something? Is that it? A VOICE from upstairs causes Dolly to tense up. VOICE (O.S.) Dolly McQueary! Get your ass up here this instant! Dolly freezes, puts her finger to her lip in a SHHH signal to Deadgirl. A BEAT, then the voice again: VOICE (O.S.) (CONT'D) I know you're down there and I know you can hear me, goddammit! Up! Here! NOW! Dolly looks like she's going to cry. DOLLY Shit. (whispering to Deadgirl) I'll be right back. Dolly SIGHS and wends her way through the trash to the stairs. Deadgirl sits on the couch, wrapped in the blanket, not moving. CUT TO: INT. MCQUEARY HOME, MOM'S BEDROOM - NIGHT Mother's bedroom door CREAKS open slowly, letting in a beam of light from the hallway outside. The room is dark but we can see garbage piled high everywhere. Lots of fast food wrappers and other trash. The room is full of cigarette smoke. There are overflowing ashtrays and coffee cans full of cigarette butts everywhere. It's dominated by a giant We can't fully see her in beneath the blankets, her tip of a cigarette flares of her face when it does. bed. MOTHER is in there somewhere. the dark. She's just a giant shape face shadowed in darkness. The red now and then, giving us just a hint
Mamma. MOTHER (CONT'D) And how'm I supposed to sleep with my drawers all full and wet like this? Been laying here like this for hours waiting for you to get back and now I'm gonna get a rash. Just do your fucking job like you're supposed to. CONTINUED: Dolly steps into the room like a prisoner on his way to the electric chair. MOTHER Shitty fucking company. Mamma. you hear me? Better not be some man that you're spreading your filthy legs for.14. You're drunk again. DOLLY I-I'm sorry. DOLLY Yes. DOLLY N-no. shrinking. The bathroom is filthy. streaked mirror. The room is small and lit only by a reading lamp on a table next to the bed. tiny furniture meant for a kid. But she's very. CUT TO: INT..NIGHT Dolly comes back downstairs.a marked contrast to the rest of the house and property. okay? Dolly walks out of the room. disgusting. It's painted and decorated like a child's room pastel paint job. okay? Get some rest and we'll figure out what to do with you tomorrow. MCQUEARY HOME. CUT TO: INT. UPSTAIRS BATHROOM .
She reaches in and pulls out an old fork. MCQUEARY FARM . CUT TO: INT. looks like she's hung-over. so Dolly can assume she's still "alive. DOLLY Morning.DAY The day has risen over the McQueary property. She winces and smiles as she shoves the fork between her legs. A crow eating on a pile of debris SQUAWKS before taking flight. Dolly SIGHS. Deadgirl looks like she hasn't moved an inch. She stares at the bent fork. The ceiling CREAKS. Mother rolling her massive form on the bed above. Dolly lies back and stares at the ceiling. begins to masturbate with it.16. CONTINUED: Dolly is in a voluminous cotton nightgown. quietly slides open the drawer of her night table. MCQUEARY HOME . DOLLY Another BEAT of laying there. a scowl on her face. Hello? No real response.
S. There's a little sip of vodka in the bottom of the bottle. Behind Dolly's back. Dolly drains it.) How much longer it gonna be. CUT TO: INT. MOTHER (O.S. Dolly is cooking a bunch of greasy sausages in a filthy skillet. Deadgirl turns her head and watches Dolly leave. Instead she mumbles under her breath.DAY Could it get any more disgusting in the McQueary house? When we see the kitchen for the first time. goddammit! Get your fat ass into gear! I know you're up! I can hear you down there! Dolly GROANS. KITCHEN . She pulls it out. leaving Deadgirl alone in the living room.) Don't you sass me. young lady! Dolly doesn't respond to Mother.17. The tomcat WHINES and wends its way between her feet. louder and more insistent. throws the door open... It's enough to get Dolly to leave the cooking and investigate . Dolly ignores it.. only one eye. Dolly tuens her attention back to the sausages. No more for you. This little act of rebellion does nothing to change Dolly's mood. It SIZZLES there. Stupid bitch.18.wet and painful. pokes at the sausages. fur mottled. She slices off the end of a sausage and drops it on the filthy floor. A CATERWAUL comes from the other side of the kitchen door. Cat. A large orange Tomcat. Dolly hocks up a loogie and spits it into the cooking grease. Another MEOW.. DOLLY (CONT'D) What am I? Everybody's goddamned servant? Get your ass in here. Then a tomcat WHINE coming from the other room. but this one is horrifyingsounding . DOLLY (CONT'D) Okay. DOLLY (CONT'D) Shut up in there! Deadgirl looks up and notices Dolly as if for the first time. angry. her teeth full of fur and blood. Dolly springs to her feet. lifting Deadgirl and throwing her across the room. CONTINUED: Her angry eyes are pinned on a tiny TV at the foot of the bed playing bad daytime television. Dolly enters carrying a plate of sausage. Mother glares at her. You don't know nothing about tough. always moping around like your life's so tough. You trying to starve me to death. Dolly sets the plate of sausages on Mother's profuse lap. CONTINUED: (4) MOTHER (CONT'D) Good. You know these sausages ain't enough for breakfast. her hand covering her mouth. DOLLY (CONT'D) I'm sorry. You're dead. Deadgirl tries to roll over and can't . (CONTINUED) . Dolly stares at her in wonderment. Dolly stares at the Deadgirl with horror. leans down and grabs her ankles to drag her out of the house. Dolly goes back to the Deadgirl... shoves a bunch of greasy sausage into her gaping maw .. Mother turns off her oxygen and lights up another cigarette. She doesn't seem to be in pain. MOTHER (CONT'D) Great. it ain't funny. is that it? No response. (beat) I'm warning you! (MORE) (CONTINUED) . (yelling to Dolly) Your girlfriend's a fucking FREAK. MCQUEARY HOME. MOTHER (CONT'D) What is this shit? Dolly? Dolly! The bedroom door closes. Haven't I been put through enough in life already without a carpet-munching daughter. huh? This some kind of fucking joke? If it is. Deadgirl shuffles into the room.26.. MOTHER (O. UPSTAIRS HALLWAY . CONTINUED: Which slides out of Deadgirl with a WET SUCKING sound. GROWLS. Mother SCREAMING out in pain. Wet SQUELCHING sounds. More SCREAMING from Mother. Dolly can't handle it anymore. She runs downstairs. CUT TO: INT./EXT. MCQUEARY HOME - DAY A MONTAGE of the next few hours. - Dolly sits on the living room couch, wringing her hands. She cranes her neck to listen above. The ceiling CREAKS from something moving on the bed above, but no voices. - Dolly with a giant trash bag. She's picking up some of the nastiest garbage in the living room - moldy food containers and cups, old magazines and newspapers - Dolly in the yard, throwing garbage bags into a pile. - Dolly in the kitchen, wearing yellow rubber gloves, scrubbing the counter tops with a Brillo pad. She's working up a sweat. - Dolly gathering up more garbage and putting it into trash bags. She finds a bottle of liquor beneath a cabinet. She thirstily unscrews the cap and chugs the remains ... - The light has changed outside, showing passage of time. Dolly looks at the kitchen. It's still disgusting, something that no normal person would consider even close to clean. But it's somewhat of an improvement. Dolly peels off her rubber gloves. Listens for sounds coming from upstairs. - Dolly nervously paces the living room floor. - Dolly outside of Mother's locked door, her ear pressed to it, listening intently. - Dolly opens the giant doors to teh barn outside. It's full of dusty farm equipment, the floor covered with moldy hay. - Dolly attaches a thick metal chain to a loop in the barn floor. - Dolly moving debris out of the chain's radius.
28. CONTINUED: - Dolly is back inside, digging through a pile of refuse in the kitchen closet. She pulls out a box of industrial black garbage bags. - She sets a roll of duct tape and one of the plastic bags near Mother's shut door. - Dolly, in the kitchen, drops a battery into the handle of a stun gun. She tests it. Blue sparks CRACKLE between the nodes. - Dolly pulls on a pair of thick leather gloves, picks up the stun gun, heads up the stairs ... CUT TO: INT. MCQUEARY HOME, UPSTAIRS HALLWAY - DAY Dolly, armed and ready, listens at Mother's door. Muffled WET SOUNDS come from within. Dolly takes a deep breath, quietly unlocks the door, slowly opens it ... Her eyes take a moment to adjust to what she's seeing and when she processes it, her face registers a strange mixture of happiness and abject disgust. We hear muffled GROWLING and CHEWING. Dolly stealthily steps into the room ... CUT TO: INT. MCQUEARY HOME, MOM'S BEDROOM - DAY ... And we see what she sees. It's no wonder it took her a minute to adjust to the image. Mother lies on her back in the bed, as usual. Her eyes are open and it's immediately apparent that she is dead. Her head bobs on her shoulders as she's shaken ... ... Because the Deadgirl's head is gone, literally BURIED inside of Mother's prodigious stomach. It's freakish and disturbing as hell: Deadgirl's naked and blood-swathed body is in view, but her head is INSIDE Mother's corpse - like the proverbial ostrich with its head buried in the sand, but way more unnerving. We can hear Deadgirl CHEWING inside of Mother, can see her head moving beneath Mother's flesh. Dolly quietly GASPS at the sight. She takes a few steps toward the Deadgirl's exposed body, stun gun extended in gloved hand. Dolly takes a step closer and a floorboard CREAKS loudly.
29. CONTINUED: Deadgirl's head POPS out of Mother's stomach with a disgusting SPLURP. Her head is wet and black from blood and bile. A spill of intestines and thick yellow rivulets of fat fall from the hole. Deadgirl GROWLS at Dolly, more innards falling from her open mouth. Deadgirl looks lively now that she's engorged herself - more dangerous than ever before. But Dolly is ready. Without preamble, she presses the stun gun into Deadgirl and jolts her. Deadgirl stiffens at the shock, slides on some blood on the floor. Dolly takes the stun gun away. What would normally incapacitate a living person has only succeeded in angering the Deadgirl. She HISSES at Dolly, crouches to attack. Dolly hits her with the stun gun again, this time laying on the juice like there's no tomorrow. Deadgirl's body stiffens and jerks. Smoke comes out of the contact points. A couple of Deadgirl's teeth CRACK from her gritting so hard. Fresh pus oozes from her remaining wounds. This should be one of the most grueling and lengthy on-screen taser electrocutions in the history of cinema. Dolly shocks Deadgirl so long and so hard that the stun gun SPUTTERS and dies out. Deadgirl moves sluggishly, GRUNTING on the floor. DOLLY Sorry about that, girl. Can't have you biting me, though ... Dolly quickly grabs the garbage bag and wraps it around Deadgirl's head. She tapes is shut around the neck. Then she rolls the still-stunned Deadgirl onto her back and begins to tape her hands and feet together ... CUT TO: EXT. WOODS - DAY It's still overcast outside. Two boys, ZEKE and ACE, wander in the woods. The boys are both 10 years old. Matching crew cuts. Clothing consists of ratty t-shirts and camo pants. Zeke is holding a high-powered pellet gun complete with scope. The two boys tromp through the woods, making a lot of noise on dry leaves and twigs.
I dare ya. ACE Try it. ACE (CONT'D) He motions Zeke to follow.30. Ace points at an abandoned car on the far side of the property. Ace! All that noise is gonna scare everything away. The boys shuffle through the leaves for a few BEATS. He raises the pellet rifle to his shoulder. aims. ZEKE I could hit you with it. You can't hit shit with that thing anyways. (CONTINUED) . Farm machinery skeletons can be seen. They stop at the tree line. ACE Whatever. Ace looks ahead where there's a break in the trees. He points. ZEKE Zeke pops off another quick couple of shots at more items in the yard. CONTINUED: ZEKE Pick up your feet. ACE (CONT'D) Bet you can't even hit that junker over there. Zeke scoffs at the challenge. A tiny hole appears in the passenger side window. See? Easy. C'mere. ZEKE Bet? Bet what? You ain't got nothing I want. and squeezes off a shot. Zeke raises the rifle and points it at Ace. It's the edge of the McQueary property. ACE Not like you could hit it anyway.
man? Zeke puts a finger to the lips: shhhh. The boys make a slow advance in the yard. make a little noise. (CONTINUED) . her face red with strain. Zeke CHUCKLES as Ace ducks behind a tree. You could set the whole dang yard on fire and they wouldn't knowThe back door of the house suddenly BANGS open. Dolly comes out of the dark house. ACE (whispering) What're you doing. Both boys FREEZE as the can DINGS and rolls. ducks behind a rusty barrel. ZEKE (CONT'D) What's the matter with you. you look! Zeke takes a peek. Zeke goes into full commando mode. but the boys don't. Her face is red from the strain of carrying the Deadgirl . steps past the tree line. Zeke's POV: The back door to the house is wide open. creating a racket. She's got something wrapped in a blanket thrown over her shoulder. No. Now we're with Dolly as she pants and trudges across the junkstrewn lot towards the barn. man.she's not in the greatest shape. He signals to Ace to fall into step. why don't ya? ZEKE Whatever. Both boys drop down and duck behind trees. knocking over a paint can on the back of a tractor. They communicate non-verbally: Look. keeping low and hidden. Zeke's foot catches on a loose wire of some sort. A garbage chain reaction happens. We know that it's the Deadgirl. CONTINUED: (2) One of the pellets hits a plate of glass somewhere and it SHATTERS. The old lady can't even fucking walk and that fatass fucking daughter of hers is probably drunk.31. chicken? ACE Shit.
She looks over at where the sound came from.. The boys are laying on the ground. ACE (CONT'D) (whispering) What's she doing? ZEKE (whispering) Throwing more garbage on the pile of garbage. Stares. but they maintain their silence. That's what they do. Zeke gives Ace a look that says as much. Dolly watches the crow take flight. They're two ten year old boys. startling the boys. ACE I didn't see nothing. CONTINUED: (3) Elsewhere in the yard. ACE (whispering) Then why are we spying on her? Stupid question. As she does so (and we're seeing this from the boys' hidden POV. A BEAT of tension. Dolly disappears into the barn. Dolly nears the open barn doors. partially obscured). She's got . ZEKE Did you see that? See what? ACE ZEKE An arm. sees Dolly looking.. Ace looks. Dolly stops in her tracks. (CONTINUED) . Ace ventures a look through some debris. not moving. The boys watch from their hiding place as Dolly nears the barn. one of Deadgirl's arms flops out of the blanket and hangs there. but Dolly's inside the barn. That's a person she's got in there. A crow KAWS and takes off into the air nearby.32. She continues her trek to the barn.
ACE Hey! Where are you going? Ace stealthily follows his friend. ZEKE Shh.33. The boys make their way a bit closer. ACE Fuck this. crouched. They're almost able to see inside of the barn when Dolly emerges. but I can't have you in the house.. ZEKE Zeke stands. ACE (CONT'D) I don't think this is such a good idea. Wait up! CUT TO: INT. Dolly has tried to make it somewhat comfortable. DOLLY Sorry. C'mon. (MORE) (CONTINUED) . She shuts the doors and locks them with a padlock. Her back is to the boys. One of her ankles is chained to the ring in the floor. but the yard is like a thick woodland of junk. They angle themselves around in order to get a view of the inside. trying to get to her feet. The two boys get a little bit closer to the barn. ZEKE (CONT'D) Shit. ZEKE Hold on just aAce is already taking off.DAY Deadgirl is laying on the barn floor. I'm out of here . CONTINUED: (4) C'mon. girl. OLD BARN . man. and winds his way through the junk in the yard.. ducking behind an old washing machine. Quit being a pussy. There's water in a dog bowl and a pile of blankets there. Zeke turns to him. Let's get out of here.
She has a bucket in one hand and a meat cleaver in the other. (CONTINUED) . She looks both fascinated. MOM'S BEDROOM . CUT TO: INT. takes a deep. shutting the double doors. She dances around the room for a moment.34. She pauses.EVENING The door to Mother's room opens and the light clicks on. Dolly enters the house and stops in the middle of the slightly cleaner living room. exposing a fat leg. Eventually she makes her way back toward the house. MCQUEARY FARM . Dolly stares at the place where the boys disappeared to. She goes over to mother and lifts her dress. refreshing breath . And smiles beautifully. Thinking. looks around. Deadgirl is alone in the dark barn.. and disgusted. CUT TO: EXT. Dolly's POV: She can see the two boys disappearing into the trees at the edge of the property.DAY It's almost evening by now. A few steps and then something catches her eye. but I can't afford to have you eating me while I sleep.DAY Dolly finishes locking up the barn doors and turns to go back to the house. MCQUEARY HOME . MCQUEARY HOME. Dolly enters and stares down at her mother's lifeless body. who has mad eit to her feet and stares at Dolly with dead eyes. CUT TO: INT. liberated. DOLLY (CONT'D) You're a good girl.. ya know? She smiles at Deadgirl. happy. I'll come back later to check up on you. CONTINUED: DOLLY (CONT'D) You did a great job on Mamma. okay? Dolly exits the barn.
DOLLY Here you go..Dolly is in the shower. You'll be okay here . anyway. She stops and turns to look at Deadgirl. washing her hair. DOLLY (CONT'D) I . though. She SIGHS with satisfaction. I just want to say . not like you used it in the last ten years. CUT TO: INT..... We hear the wet THOCK of the cleaver hitting meat. DOLLY (CONT'D) Yeah. And if you don't. . Dolly giggles at her morbid joke. Eat up..NIGHT Dolly sets the bloody bucket down at the periphery of Deadgirl's chain length. Fuck you. I'm gonna go out for a spell. MCQUEARY HOME . Then she raises the cleaver. huh? Okay. OLD BARN . I'm sure you understand. okay? Deadgirl just stands there and stares at Dolly. well . She leaves. Well. She's gotta eat. you're probably still full after that meal today. CUT TO: INT.Dolly is alone in the house. (CONTINUED) . Thank you. CONTINUED: DOLLY You don't need this anymore.
