Seasonal Overview
Spring 2013 promises to be a successful season based on the incoming trends, from ladylike and innocent to romantic and sensual. From what is currently retailing this season, we can confidently say that the customer is responding to color and trend-right merchandise with a more modern edge. With a continued emphasis on value-driven product, the intimate business is turning around and we look forward to a successful season. Combining the kick of fresh color palettes, newer prints and patterns and the importance of strategically placed lace, we are projecting bra and panty assortments to propel sales, resulting in a slight increase over last year. Technology and innovation will continue to impact the shapewear business, evolving into newer silhouettes that play the dual role of function and fashion. While benefits and features gain momentum with the introduction of unique and compelling products, we are projecting shapewear to remain steady. As we strategize the sleepwear mix that serves the traditional, modern and junior customer, loungewear separates will represent the biggest growth opportunity. We have identified this category for two seasons and will continue to call out the “Sleep to Street” concept. We are seeing more vendors emerge with more product offerings that address the lifestyle and needs for consumers of all ages. Our Editor handout features four trends of the season and includes both runway and vendor snapshots of the market direction for Spring 2013. We have also included a checklist of the must-have key items of the season. In addition, we have highlighted what inspires us, including a look at celebrities, our favorite websites, and the influence of film and television in the intimates business. A New York shopping guide features the must-shop stores to visit the next time you are in town. We will continue to keep you updated throughout the season via our website at www.doneger.com and encourage you to utilize the site for inspiration and trend direction that will prove valuable to your business.
