A small piece of information about TCS

Just a small intro to those who donot know who i am.. Well I am Arun. 2010 passed out. Working and enjoying life @ TCS for the past 25 months!!!! Also i am the mentor (Sort of) for TCS 2011 groups in facebook. So any doubts you have with respect to TCS U can ask me very well.. For your Information, My ILP was in Chennai from Oct 21, 2010 till December 31, 2011!! :) :) Small Info about TCS which i know: 1. Regarding your offer letter: I found out through your queries that some of the guys out here has not received their offer letter. Its not at all a problem to worry. U people will get it soon :) So chill guys!!!!! But anyways as a precaution, Check ur next step portal and be in touch with ur placement co ordinator. It will be a concern only if few among all who got recruited in one particular college dint get his/ her offer letter. If noone in a college got offer letter, Its not at all a problem of concern!!!!!! 2. Regarding your call letter: Its a very important thing which i feel each and every person has to know!!!!!!!! See from July 2012, all u guys will start getting their call letter. Ur date of joining (DOJ) will depend purely on ur college grade and ur Base location (which will be mentioned in ur offer letter). And ur DOJ doesnt depend on your Offer letter date or date of recruitment by TCS!!!!!! Like for eg, My college (VEC) had recruitmnt on Sep 3 , 2011 which is B grade. But Sastra college, Tanjore which had their recruitmnet after sep 3, 2011. Sastra guys will get their DOJ soon compared to VEC because Sastra is A grade and VEC is B grade!!!! Note Both sastra and VEC will have ILP in Chennai because they have same Base location. Again take a case where two colleges which have same grade but different base locations. Consider a C grade college Narula Institute of Technology, Kolkatta base branch and VLB Janakiammal College of Engineering and Technology, base location Chennai. VLB Janakiammal College of Engineering and Technology DOJ is in December 2011 Narula Institute of Technology has DOJ on March 2012. Note: In TCS there are 2 domains IT, ITIS. I am explaining all this with reference to TCS IT. For ITIS also this will be the procedure!!!! Guess u ppl are clear with what i meant.

3. Regarding Domains and projects in TCS: TCS is divided into 2 domains as i explained before. 1. IT: it will be fully software side. which will include writting codes. 2. ITIS: It will be dealing with hardware stuffs like Server stuffs, networks, DBA issues.

I want to tell u in short about projects in TCS. 1. Development Project 2. Testing Project 3. Support project I guess all these are self explainatory. I will explain you still in depth about the types of proj when i explain my training experience :) Programming languages u need to know: I want to clear 3 thing to you which i bet they would have said u guys in pre placement talk because they too said the same to me :D 1. They would have told u ppl that If ur from mech dept for eg., and if ur selected in TCS, U have the facility to shift into TATA Motors and TATA steels. Its completely false info!!!! 2. Once u step into TCS, u will be purely working on software side only. 3. Higher studies will not be encouraged. If u wanna do higher studies, U have to quit TCS and go!!! Thatswhat even i am going to do after 2 years :D Also if u take TCS, u will be mostly working on java or SQL (75%). TCS has lots of java projects!!!!

4. Small info about Aspire stuff: Aspire is nothing but an online link where TCS will be giving lots of stuffs to prepare. In short its Pre ILP stuffs. Aspire was introduced from Jan 2011. The only motive of Aspire is to make u ppl aware of basics of technical stuffs and simply about TCS. It will contain stuffs like

Know about TCS Java, Software engg, DBMS, Unix stuffs. Aspire is the place where all non CS ppl has to make use of it. It will be sooo simple. Its more than enough to know the basics. U ppl have to submit assignments after each sessions. there ll be some dead line date for each assignments. This is specially for all who fear that they are tech less srong, U need not worry now!!! When ur aspire link is enabled, Take it little serious :) :) U will surely rock!! :) :) Also very important, I request u ppl to do some certifications till u get ur DOJ. It will be really helpful.

5. ILP training: I will explain my ILP experience as a separate doc!! Because i have loads of stuffs to share :) :) :) But in short, ILP is heaven with all cute girls and handsome guys (For girls :P) :D :D U will enjoy badly!!! Also i will explain u why i ask u ppl to do some certification when i share my experience!!!!! :) :) Anyways welcome to TCS :) :) Any doubts feel free to ask me :) :) Arun
