Believes that Constituents Can Have Better Government
Nashville, Tennessee—January 4, 2008. Eric Stansell, a local attorney and business consultant, picked up his qualifying petition this morning to seek election to the Tennessee General Assembly as the Representative for House District 52. Stansell is running on a platform of better state government through better representation. He believes that state government can and should be: • More Ethical—“Citizens should feel confident that their representatives represent them, both in their general policy beliefs, as well as their sensibilities. We must strive for the highest ethical standards, both at the individual representative level, as well as at the institutional level, so that our citizens will once again have confidence in their leaders.” More Efficient—“We live in an age where just-in-time supply management, lean manufacturing ideals and information technology are making our top industries more competitive than ever. Our state government must adopt the best applicable practices of our private industries and constantly strive to ensure that its polices provide for proper regulation in an ever-changing world.” More Effective—“Passing laws that affect the lives of everyday citizens is a great responsibility that should not be taken lightly. By working to get our legislature more focused on those matters that truly matter and the commonalities among even diverse policy positions, and spend less time on those that simply polarize our citizens and cause partisan and ideological bickering, we can begin to see our legislature be more effective for the people.” More Open—“The abilities of the public to attend deliberative meetings of its legislative bodies and to readily access records that are open to it, are vital components to a vibrant democracy.”

Stansell noted that he hopes to have a continuing dialogue with constituents when elected to ensure that their voices are heard in the General Assembly. “You can be certain that I will always listen to the people of this district, and, as I think you will see from my campaign, I will work harder than anyone else to ensure that you are properly represented.”

Stansell received his B.A., M.B.A. and law degrees from the University of Tennessee. He grew up in Athens, Tennessee, where he attended public schools throughout his academic career. His mother taught in public schools for thirty-two years, and his father taught in public schools for twenty years before starting his own small business, from which he retired some thirty years later. Stansell’s governmental experience includes being a former attorney for the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance, as well as a number of governmental internships, including stints in both the Governor’s Office for the State of Tennessee and the Office of Cabinet Affairs at The White House under President Bill Clinton. ### If you have any questions, would like more information, or would like to schedule an interview with me, please feel free to contact me at the electronic mail address or telephone number listed above.
