Alberta Alliance Principles
1. We believe in the inherent value and dignity of each individual citizen; that all citizens are equal
before the law and entitled to fundamental justice; and that all citizens have certain fundamental
and immutable rights and freedoms, including: the right to life, safety, liberty, and privacy; the
freedoms of speech and expression and the freedom to advocate, without fear of intimidation or
suppression, public policies which reflect their values; freedom of religious belief and practice;
freedom of peaceful assembly and choice of association; freedom of mobility; and the freedom to
own, enjoy, and exchange private property in a free market.
2. We believe in democratic processes including: free and fair elections, set election dates, free votes
in the Legislature and the power of citizens to recall elected representatives and initiate
referendums.
3. We believe that Albertans have a personal and social responsibility to care and provide for the basic
needs of those who are genuinely unable to care and provide for themselves; and that this
responsibility begins with the family and extends to volunteer private organizations and to all levels
of government.
4. We believe that functions of government should be delegated to the level of government closest to
the people and best able to fulfill the function; and that the division of powers among the levels of
government must be respected.
5. We believe that the government, elected officials and civil servants are to serve the people; and that
all Citizens are entitled to benefit without prejudice from the services offered by government.
6. We believe that the family is the essential building block of a healthy society and the primary
means by which citizens pass on their values and beliefs; therefore, the family must be protected
from unnecessary intrusions by government.
7. We believe that elected representatives are to serve honestly, ethically, and with concern for all;
that their duty to their electors supersedes their obligations to any political party; and that
government must be open and accountable to the people.
8. We believe that government must be fiscally prudent: namely balancing budgets, limiting taxation,
and minimizing the size and growth of the public sector and that they should treat public moneys as
funds held in trust.
9. We believe that the interests of Alberta are best served by a strong, unified, equal and democratic
Canada.
10. We believe that economic freedom, entrepreneurial spirit and the right to private property are
essential to economic prosperity and political freedom.
11. We believe in the preservation of Alberta’s heritage.
12. We believe in being environmentally responsible through conservation and renewal of the
environment for present and future generations.
13. We believe in freedom of the press and other media.
14. We believe in the principle of universal public access to health care.
15. We believe in the principle of universal public access to education.

1 Alberta Alliance Democratic Reform Policies
1.1 Accountability
1.1.1 An Alberta Alliance Government will implement a computerized voting system in the

making.

That is any province seeking separation from Canada must first hold a referendum of

clear in the support it achieves for the result to be taken as the democratic will and
expression of the will of the people to enter into negotiations that lead to secession.

4

privileges and responsibilities.

officials in Alberta. MLA’s will be elected to a four (4) year term. The Legislative
Assembly will be able to call a vote of non-confidence at any time.

decision making to local communities.

governments.

tools to local governments to reduce pressure on property taxes.

by instituting Merit Employment Legislation that is based on merit and not political

Clause) of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, with the consent of the
Alberta people in a referendum.

recognizing that Members of the Legislative Assembly are first and foremost
responsible to their constituents.
1.18.2 An Alberta Alliance Government will institute the right of recall of elected officials.
1.19 Senate Reform
1.19.1 An Alberta Alliance Government will advocate for a reformed Canadian Senate that has
equal representation elected from each province and effective parliamentary powers.
Through “Triple-E” Senate reform, the equality of all Canadians will be enhanced by
ensuring that representation by population is balanced with the need for equal
provincial representation.
1.19.2 An Alberta Alliance Government will create serious consideration to the “Triple E”
Senate reform proposal on a national level by holding a provincial referendum on
Senate reform.

Senate. It need not recognize any federally appointed Senators.

powers.
