On Saturday June 9th from 9am to 4pm, Immaculate Heart Central Schools is proud to announce the build of a new playground for our Intermediate School. Many members of the community including the 187 Infantry Regiment of the 10th Mountain Division (light infantry) will come together to make this project a success. A large playground unit, a picnic table, benches and several free standing units will be installed for the first phase of our playground improvement project. The old playground was dismantled due to disrepair and damage; the property was recently prepared for the new playground area. We owe this project’s success to several grants and fundraising efforts that occurred throughout the year. Last fall, IHC partnered with Davidson’s Auto Group for a Drive One 4UR school event, and a car raffle both generating over 20,000 for the playground. In addition, Kaboom and Dr. Pepper Snapple gave us a $15,000 grant toward our playground, and Stewart’s Shops supported our playground with a matching program at 2 local shops; generating several hundred dollars. IHC also held an annual Adult Dinner Dance and generated over 12,000 toward the playground. All of the generosity and hard work combined allowed IHC to purchase Phase 1 of our playground reconstruction.

Once this phase of the playground is complete, IHC will seek additional funds to purchase soccer goals, lacrosse goals, and kick ball field supplies, in addition to revamping our swings. Through the generosity of local community members and grants, IHC’s goal is to complete Phase 2 by Spring 2013. Chris Hornbager, the Executive Systems Administrator for IHC, commented on the project: “Many organizations and community partners as well as our own IHC supporters came together once again to make the quality of our schools a better place for our children. This year we have successfully fundraised to make this project happen, just as we did last year when we completed a new playground for our Primary School location. Only through generosity and support of all does this type of project start as a dream or an idea and become a reality. We are extremely grateful to everyone who participated in this venture, and we look forward to our build on Saturday.”
