NASA Administrator Richard H. Truly today announced the appointment of Dr. John Klineberg as Director of Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Md., effective July 1, 1990. Klineberg will succeed Dr. John Townsend, who announced his planned retirement effective June 30, 1990. Klineberg, a 20-year NASA veteran, has been Director of Lewis Research Center (LeRC), Cleveland, for the past 3 years. Truly, commenting on the appointment said, "We are fortunate to have on our management team a man of Dr. Klineberg's experience and ability to take over this challenging assignment at a time when Goddard Space Flight Center is at the heart of so many of NASA's science programs, both in flight now and planned for the next few years." Klineberg joined NASA 20 years ago at Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, Calif. He conducted research in the area of transonic flow with emphasis on numerical methods for calculating air boundary layer separation.
