K. Chandra Hari Man as well as the whole of biosphere has in it an assemblage of millions of biological clocks as is being verified by modern biology in recent times. Time thus has an inherent existence within the beings that functions independently as well as in relation to the outwardly rhythms of nature. Among all creatures Man is the most insensitive to its internal clocks and the history of man provide attestation to this fact by his known obsession with the external rthymhs indicative of time which paved the way for calendar. Or, in his attempt to have a grip with the mystery that time presented he invented methods for measuring time intervals and derived a computable experience of time on the wheel apparent in celestial periodicities. This invention of the “Wheel of Time” was made possible by human creativity – a new found talent that nature lacked till the advent of Man by accident or by design. To the extent man became insensitive to the natural biorthyms of his body, to the extent man ceased to be instinctual, to the extend he was free from the bondage of nature – he became creative – a new energy sprouted in him that was tuned to the external rhythms in a special way. The “Wheel of Time” was thus designed by the ancient Rishis to reflect the bio-cosmic tuning inherent in nature between the microcosm and macrocosm. “Wheel of Time” or Kālacakra thus created received the name Mūlādhāra Rāhu – Śikhi Cakra, the mathematical projection of the discernable bio-cosmic tuning on to the celestial periodicities that gave computable experience of Time. As is implied by the term Mūlādhāra, the star Mūla was fiducial in this conception as marking the source of human creativity, the source of Kundalini, bottom of the cerebro-spinal axis, representing a fixed longitude of 2400. Ancient seers who achieved this grasp of time, couched the mystic conception in allegory/myths and thus the whole of Siva or Lingapurāna and the associated purānic stories originally came into existence. The reference star Mūla got personified as Mahākāla, the preceptor of the Tāntric discipline, Ādi Guru and Parama Guru of Jyotisha, Yoga and Āgama – the three disciplines that constituted the kernel of original Indian Science, Tantra. Man who transcended the bondage of nature through Tantra (the original Indian Science) had its representation in Paśupati, or Mrtyunjaya, the one who has achieved the ultimate objective viz., mukti. Those ancient seers have bequeathed to us the legacy of Jyotisha1, which is the subject of this paper.
We have so far come to possess little of archaeoastronomical evidence except the evidence for Linga worship in Harappa and other Indus sites as well as in Mesopotamia in support of such a Tantra based civilization based on a flourishing school of astronomy. But recent discoveries in Cambay offshore suggests that the original seat of Tantra – the heirs to the empire of Asura Mahābali and his scions who were worshippers of Mahākāla Śiva, known through legends as residing near Narmada – was south Gujarat which in antiquity had an “Indian Atlantis”. Hindu epics full of astronomical allegory too had its origin in the “Indian Atlantis” and when the city submerged the people probably migrated to the far-northern and far-southern areas from the sides of Narmada.
Jyotisha means the science of “Jyoti” – “Jyoti” here means man’s inner light or Kundalini, the esoteric power carrying the same signature as the bio-cosmic time and expressible mathematically over the celestial wheel of time that renders computable experience of time. Mūlādhāra Cakra is Kundalini Cakra and hence the name Kundalini for horoscope. Kundalini is an expression of bio-cosmic time on the Yantra of Yogic body produced by nature or in otherwords the Kundalini Cakra is the mathematical projection of a Yogic body/life on to the ecliptic belt to achieve the decipherment of the evolutionary/esoteric time. It is therefore well evident that it is Yoga that gives credence to Jyotisha and it is thus that the Jyotisha becomes an ārsha discipline, a Śāstra enunciated by the Rishis. What difference these facts brings into Jyotisha is a very important question that remains to be answered. The true Ayanāmśa for Mūlādhāra Cakra is nearly 44 minutes of arc more than the Citrapaksha ayanāmśa. This difference is significant as to cause critical changes in Daśas, Vargas, Jaimini’s Karakas, astrological principles at work etc., and thus the true sidereal zodiac is reflective of a far more accurate astronomical picture of bio-cosmic time or destiny. Following part of the article is an illustration of the same for a critical evaluation by the astrological intelligentsia. Case Studies 1. Scientific Analysis of Horoscope • Rāśi (a) No Dainya or Jātakabhaňga Yoga is apparent in the chart (b) Strījātaka (c) Afflicted houses: 11 and 5; 11th lord is involved in a Parivartana Yoga with 9th lord – noteworthy is the debiliation of 11th lord Guru that made her the eldest and heir to the kingdom. (d) First and fifth lords are together but in the 12th house (e) Seventh lord is in the 11th, afflicted by Rāhu • Navāmśa: Marital Life (a) Navāmśa-Lagna is occupied by Rāhu and Lord of Navāmśa-Lagna is Guru, who is debiliated in Rāśi (b) Navāmśa-Lagna is sandwiched between malefics Mars and Saturn (c) Lord of Navāmśa-Lagna Guru is placed in Leo It is therefore apparent that her marital life will have the predomiant influence of Mars, Nīca Guru and Rāhu. Widowhood in the 43rd Year during Guru daśa – Śukra bhukti finds explanation in Navāmśa and Saptāmśa: For Navāmśa Guru and Śukra are first and eigth lords and 12th and 6th lord in Rāśi×7. • Daśāmśa: Career (a) Lagna, Sun and Moon are Vargottama in Daśāmśa – a rare feature indeed – and Lagna is owned by Venus – well placed in Rāśi × 10. (b) 10th Lord, Śani is in the royal sign Leo (c) Mars, the planetary indicator of military power occupy Kendra, 10th house of both Rāśi and Daśāmśa.
(d) Rāhu too is Vargottama – in the sign of Guru involved in Parivartana Yoga Career will be under the influence of a powerful Lagna, Śani, Śukra and Kuja. This horoscope may also answer the intricacy involved in assessing a Parivartana Yoga formed by a debiliated Graha. It appears that the debiliated 8th and 11th Lord Guru has given rise to a powerful Rājayoga irrespective of its debiliation. Important Events: (a) Coronation as Queen of England on 20 June 1837: Rāhu(d)-Rāhu(b)-Sūrya(c). (b) Marriage: 10th February 1840 during Rāhu(d)-Jupiter(b): Jupiter is lord of navāmśalagna engaged in a parivartana with 9th lord Saturn. This event in fact is a test for navāmśa-Lagna which cannot be Mesa2. (c) First daughter was born on 21.11.1840. Rāhu(d)-Śani(b) from 13 May 1840 to 19 March 1843. Budha cidram began on 25 October 1840. Śani aspects the 5th house. Further Śani is lord of Saptāmśa lagna exalted in Kendra in Rāśix7. → Birth of son in 1841: The cidram of Sūrya placed in saptāmśa-lagna began on 10 November 1841. → Birth of daughter in 1843: Bhukti of Mercury began on 20 March 1843. → Birth of son in 1844: During Mercury bhukti itself – note the lordship of fifth house and position in Rāśix7. → Birth of daughter in 1846: Bhukti of Ketu occupying the fifth house was up to 24 October 1846 followed by Venus. → Birth of daughter in 1848:Rāhu(d)-Venus(b) → Birth of son in 1850: Bhukti of Sun prevailed from 25 October 1849 to 17 September 1850. Note the placement of Sun in saptāmśa-lagna. → Birth of son in 1853: Daśa of Jupiter began on 7 April 1853. → Birth of daughter in 1857:Jupiter(d)-Saturn(b) from 26 May 1855 to 5 December 1857. During 18 years of married life through the periods of Rāhu and Guru she gave birth to 9 children. (d) Guru(d)-Śani(b) also witnessed the rebellion in India (e) Death of mother in 1861 was probably during Guru(d)-Venus(b) that prevailed from 17 February 1861 to 18 October 1863.
Vimśottari derived of the rectified Lagna puts marriage in Rāhu(d)-Jupiter(b)-Saturn(c)-Mars(s): Note the sequence of antardaśa-lords, all related to navāmśa-lagna/seventh house. 4
Lagna (f) Widowed in the 43rd year [December 1861] during Jupiter(d)-Venus bhukti. Jupiter is lord of navāmśalagna and Venus is the 8th lord of Navāmśa. (g) Empress of India 1 January 1877: Śani(d)-Śukra(b): Placement of both daśa and bhukti lords are noteworthy in Daśāmśa. Death of a daughter too occurred in 1878 during Śukra bhukti as Śukra is māraka for the fifth house signifying children.

(b) Fifth-lord Mars in rapt conjunction with Rāhu occupies Mīna. (c) Ninth and tenth lords together form Rājayoga in the fifth in the company of Venus. (d) Saturn is ideally placed in the sixth house. (e) Moon forms Gajakesari Yoga with Jupiter. • Navāmśa has affliction of Moon from Mars and Rāhu placed in the 4th house. • Daśāmśa: In the horoscope of a person who had been the President of India, Daśāmśa needs careful study in combination with daśa-bhukti sequence. Note the following features: (a) Guru, the strongest planet of Rāśi, is the Lord of Daśāmśa-Lagna who occupies the sign of royalty, Leo, in exchange of houses with Ravi. Daśāmśa, thus has the parivartana between the first and ninth Lords of Rāśi, which becomes the Lords of I, X and VI in Rāśi×10. (b) Leo further has Mars and Nodes, which influence the Xth in Rāśi. • Naksatra is 4th Pāda of Ārdra and Daśa at birth: 00 Years 08 Months and 19 Days of Rāhu. Course of Life: (a) President of the Indian National Congress in 1961: Budha daśa – Guru bhukti prevailed between 23rd January 1961 and 1st May 1963. (b) Defeat on 24.08.1969 was during Śikhi daśa-Rāhu bhukti. Note the placement of Nodes in Rāśi and Daśāmśa. (c) Became Loksabha Speaker on 27th March 1977 during Śukra daśa-Sūrya bhukti and President of India in 21/25th July 1977, during Śukra dasa - Candra bhukti. Sūrya occupy the Xth in Daśāmśa and Candra aspects the Xth house. Śukra daśa happened to mark the climax of his career owing to the Varga bala – strength arising from the harmonics. With λ = 03021’, Śukra gained amśa in Vrsabha in Navāmśa, Daśāmśa and Dvādaśāmśa. In Daśāmśa, Śukra is associated with Vargottama Śani of the VIth house. Citra-paksa Ayanāmśa →With the use of Citrapaksa ayanāmśa, Śikhi daśa-Rāhu bhukti is over on 15th January 1969 and therefore the defeat of August 1969 will be in the bhukti of Guru. →Presidential election of 1977 falls in Śukra daśa-Candra bhukti and hence the failure of the Citrapaksa value is not explicitly apparent in this event.
• Vimśottari Daśa of Lagna-Naksatra Both Sagittarius Lagna and Gemini Candra rāśi are nocturnal and biped. But in view of the placement of Lord Jupiter, Lagna is stronger than Candra and therefore Vimśottari from Lagnasphuta viz., 249052’14” too may be indicative of the trends of career and life. • Naksatra is 3rd pāda of Mūla: Daśa at birth: 01 years 09 months 24 days of Śikhi → Śukra daśa 4th March 1915 to 03 March 1935 → Sūrya daśa 3rd March 1935 to 3rd March 1941 → Candra daśa 4th March 1941 to 4th March 1951 → Kuja daśa 4th March 1951 to 4th March 1958 → Rāhu daśa 4th March 1958 to 4th March 1976 → Guru daśa 4th March 1976 to 4th March 1992 a) President of the Indian National Congress in 1961. Guru bhukti of Rahu dasa began on 14th November 1960. Guru could nullify the affliction by Nodes during its period. b) Defeat in the Presidential contest on 24th August 1969: Rāhu daśa- Śikhi bhukti was from 2nd September 1968 to 21st September 1969. c) Speaker of the Lok Sabha on 27 March 1977. Dasa of Guru had begun on 4th March1976. In Guru bhukti: Budha cidram was from 18.10.1976 to 07.02.1977, Ketu then up to 22nd March followed by Śukra cidram for 4 months 8 days i.e., 30 July 1977. d) President of India: Height of glory 21/25 July 1977. Up to 30th July Guru daśa-Guru bhuktiŚukra cidram prevailed. Lagna being on Mūla the difference in DAB for Citrapaksa ayanāmśa is only (-) 04 months 25 days. So the bhuktis corresponding to the above events are almost the same. • Kālacakra Daśa Somatāra: Ārdra 4th Pāda: 79031’: Balance of Naksatra pāda = 29 minutes Rāśi Cycle → 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4,3,2,1→Paramāyu: 10+7+16+9+5+21+9+16+7 = 100. In this scheme it was the daśa of Mithuna-Budha that conferred the highest political offices. Candra is placed in Mithuna and is owned by Xth -lord Budha. In Daśāmśa, Mithuna has Vargottama Candra placed in the IVth, in opposition to Ravi. • Considered from the Lagnatāra, 3rd Pāda of Mūla (249052’14”), the Kālacakra sequence will be: 2,1,12,11,10,9,1,2,3 → 83 Years: DaB: 0 year 7months 20 days of Vrsa-Śukra. Influence of Daśāmśa is apparent in the Lagnatāra scheme as the ascension to high political offices in the first seven months of 1977 took place during Mithuna daśa – Mīna Guru bhukti that prevailed from 19 June 1976 to 20 July 1977. • A Look at Sadbala (6-fold strength)

A study of the above table in relation to the important events of the native’s life given above yields us no clues like that of Daśāmśa. House λs considered from Moon will be 79030’54’+ i*30 where i = 0,1,2…11,12. Xth house will be on Revati of Budha. In navāmśa the naksatra of 10th house from Candra will be Śukra. Śukra do not appear prominently as a signifier of Kingship or Rājayoga under any of these considerations. • Naksatra Influence on Grahas Graha Rāśi R×9 R × 81 Ravi Śukra (02) Budha (18) Rāhu (24) Śaśi Rāhu (06) Budha (18) Śukra (20) Kuja Śani (26) Śaśi (13) Kuja (05) Budha Śikhi (01) Ravi (03) Guru (25)

Here we have a notable influence on Śukra of naksatras – Aśvini, Krttikā, Uttarāsādhā – owned respectively by Śikhi, Ravi, Ravi, the naksatra signifiers of Xth house [159052’14”] in Rāśi. → In Kundāmśa there is no Graha other than Śukra in the naksatras of Ravi who is the Karmatārāpati. → In navāmśa Budha and Śukra are on the tāra of Ravi – Krttikā. → In Rāsi only Śikhi is on Sūryatāra. It is therefore apparent from the present example that the signifiers are born in Rāśi by lordship of rāśis and tāras of Bhāvas and these signifiers in turn control the functioning based on their placement in Vargas such as Navāmśa and Kundāmśa, under different techniques such as Vimśottari. • According to Satyācārya (1) Satya has declared the following to be the Yogakārakas [prime signifiers of prosperity] in a horoscope: Lagnapati Guru Dispositor of Lagnapati Guru Navāmśalagnapati Dispositor of Navāmśa- Kuja Budha Lagnapati Naksatrapati Guru Rāhu Dispositor of Naksatrapati (2) Janmanaksatra – stronger of the Bhāvas of Lagna/ Candra Here it is well evident that the Dhanu-Lagna is stronger than the Somarāśi Mithuna and therefore according to the dictum of Satya Mūla is the Janmanaksatra. Somatāra is Ārdra. Dominance of either of these may be reflected in the delineation of the course of life using Vimśottari or Kālacakra daśa or other time factor techniques sensitive to Janmanaksatra. Both Kālacakra and Vimśottari schemes suggest that the Janmanaksatra is actually the Lagnatāra, 3rd pāda of Mūla.

Candra is on first pāda of Revatī and Lagna on second pāda of Āyilyam. Most popular symbol of fierce Indian Nationalism was born with the watery signs Kataka and Mīna as dominant. Apparently for a first glance this is a contradiction but here the situation is one of water driven to boiling by the Martian heat. Navāmśa is afflicted and has Śukra in debiliation sandwiched between malefics. B.V. Raman has used an ayanāmśa less by 2011’ and gives the daśa of birth as 13Y–06M–14D. True value of the DaB is 16 years 03 months 17 days. IXth house has Guru of Mīna joining Lagnapati Candra and Rāhu – Bhāgya, Laksmīyoga under obstruction of Rāhu. Mars, Yogakāraka of Kataka rāśi in a Kendra, aspecting the Xth house, made him a Barrister. Daśāmśa (Rāśi×10) is noteworthy and reflects the salient features of his Karmakāndam - active political life as a fierce nationalist. Lagna and Yogakāraka Mars takes amśa in the tenth house of rāśi while Lagnapati is Nīca in the 8th – a factor that made him unable to see the success of his efforts. The twelfth lord Budha is Vargottama in the third house of Daśāmśa, a factor that may be interpreted as signifying Tilak’s spiritual writings like Gītārahasyam and historical cum astronomical studies like Orion. • Course of Life (1) Imprisonment for eighteen months granted in September 1897: Śukra daśa-Budha bhuktiRāhu cidram and sūksma of Budha and Śikhi prevailed in September. Budha is twelfth lord in the company of Śani (8th and 7th Lord) and Rāhu of Mīna (12th house of Kāla) of course is the Kāraka for imprisonment. A better understanding of the event may be obtained from Dvādaśāmśa (Rāśi×12): Śaśi
Navāmśa Śikhi Ravi Guru Kuja Śukra
→ Twelfth Lord Budha is in the Dvādaśāmśa-Lagna falling in the sixth house of Rāśi. Also Moon is the 8th Lord of R×12 who joins Guru Lagnapati of R×12. So the Guru-Candra Yoga of ninth house has in it the seeds of a dainya-yoga arising out of the Dvādaśāmśa. (2) Congress split in 1907: Tilak became an outcaste for the Mitavādis who came to dominate the Indian Political scene in Candra daśa-Rāhu bhukti. Candra daśa had its beginning on 12 November 1905 and Rāhu bhukti was from 14 April 1907 to 13 October 1908. Ideological split is of course related to the ninth house and here the Lagnapati Candra is in conjunction with Rāhu in the ninth. Nature of the Guru-Candra Yoga and its results derived shape from the Dvādaśāmśa. As a result the rest of Candra daśa was adverse and caused the banishment of Tilak to Burma. It may also be noted that Rāhu afflicts Navāmśa-Lagnapati and Candra is in the twelfth. Lag. Kuja Śani Nodes Rāśi × 10 Ravi Śukra Śaśi Guru Budh

(3) Death in August 1920 occurred during Kuja daśa-Ketu bhukti that prevailed between 11 May and 7 October 1920. Śikhi and Kuja occupy the seventh and eighth houses from Candra who is also Lagnapati. Further, the R×8 Lagna is Kanyā having Ketu in the sixth and Kuja in the eighth. In this case Candra-Lagna has Guru in own house and thus Somatāra is stronger than Lagnatāra and therefore the Vimśottari daśa sequence from Lagna Naksatra: 11 years 06 months 14 days of Budha daśa is not strongly reflective of the above-discussed events. • Kālacakra Daśa Candra = 347013’, Revatī 1st pāda has a balance of 167 minutes.

Lagna Exile Death
→ Imprisonment of 1897 took place in Kataka-Tulā bhukti – a reflection of the Dvādaśāmśa, Guru and Candra in Tulā as first and eighth lords of Dvādaśāmśa. → Exile took place in the daśa of Ravi…precise dates are not available…. → Death in Kanyā-Budha daśa – Kanyā owned R×8 Lagna and is the seventh of Deha rāśi. Traditional Daśāmśa and Dvādaśāmśa Guru Ravi Śaśi Śukra Daśāmśa (wrong) Kuja Śani Lagna Rāhu Lagna Budha Rāhu Dvādaśāmśa (wrong) Kuja Śani Ravi Śukra Śikhi
Contrast the position of Candra (Śaśi) and Guru of this wrong daśāmśa with that of the tenth harmonic chart (R×10). In the Mihira daśāmśa their placement is excellent indicating a successful career while the R×10 places the Guru-Śaśi yoga in the eighth house of R×10 indicating impediments. Tilak’s career life, political or apolitical, cannot be described as a success and a half-successful fierce nationalist is better represented by the R×10 chart of Mesa-Lagna having Kuja and Nīca-Śani.
• Dvādaśāmśa too depicts a similar picture. In this Mihira-dvādaśāmśa Guru-Śaśi yoga is in Kanyā and is apparently auspicious as Lagna falls in the ninth house of rāśi instead of the sixth house of R×12.
Discussion on Ayanāmśa B.V. Rāman’s astrology places the imprisonment of 1897 September in Sūrya daśa-Candra bhukti and death at the beginning of Rāhu daśa. Citrapaksa places 1897 September at the end of Śukra daśa-Budha bhukti while death in Kuja daśa-Śukra bhukti. It is well evident that astrology of this sort is nothing but nonsense.

Vimśottari Daśa: Candra: 53015’: 4th Pāda of Rohinī: DaB: 0 years 0 months 22 days of Candra Daśa Candra Kuja Rāhu Guru Śani Budha Course of Life (a) Marriage in May 1897 was during Rāhu daśa-Śani bhukti that began on 29 January 1897. Śani caused marriage being placed in Navāmśa-Lagna. Rāhu and Śani are in Kendras in Navāmśa. (b) March 1901: Recovery from Plague: 29 December 1900 to 17 March 1901 - Cidram of Candra prevailed in Budha bhukti of Rāhu daśa. Budha is obviously māraka (seventh Lord) and Candra is eighth Lord placed in the sixth house. (c) Rāhu daśa-Budha bhukti was from 6 December 1899 to 24 June 1902. In this period the native topped in the matriculation examination. (d) Rāhu daśa-Śikhi bhukti prevailed between 25 June 1902 and 14 July 1903. (e) Rāhu daśa-Śukra bhukti was from 15 July 1903 to 14 July 1906. On 7th August 1905 when Rājendra Prasad had the occasion to address a major public meeting for the first time it was Śani cidram and Budha sūksma daśa. Śukra is Lagnapati of R×10 and Śani aspects Vrsabha. Budha is of course Karmapati. He also topped in B.A and joined for M.A. B.L instead of pursuing a job under the British Government. (f) 2nd January 1906 – a son was born. Śukra aspected the fifth house of children from the 11th house Tulā. (g) December 1906: Entry into Congress politics in Sūrya bhukti and his father too expired in this bhukti of Sun placed in twelfth as ninth Lord. Citrapaksa ayanāmśa places this event in Candra bhukti that is quite inappropriate in comparison to Sun’s period but as is the case with the astrology under practice, Candra bhukti may also receive justification. (h) Rāhu (d)-Candra(b) was from 7 June1907 to 6 December 1908 followed by Kuja-bhukti from 6 December 1908 to 24 December 1909. His second son was born on 1March 1909 during this period of Kuja, the fifth Lord. Also Mars is exalted Lord of Saptāmśa-Lagna. A Citrapaksa account of the horoscope gives the Lagna as 17007’-Dhanu that places the Saptāmśa-Lagna in the 4th of Lagna – Mīna rāśi here. (i) March 1909 – after loosing three years during bhuktis of Sun and Moon – native began the successful pursuance of B.L in the Bhukti of Kuja, who is the fifth lord of creative pursuits. (j) Early 1910 – Death of mother in Guru (d)-Guru (b). What made the daśa of Guru to cause the death of mother? It is easy to trace the event to some sub-sub-period related to 4th house or Moon but such analysis shall remain short of the true astrological wisdom. The event must be traceable to an adversely placed Guru in the Rāśi×4 harmonic chart or as per the classical dictum to the Rāśi×12.
Śukra Lagna Rāhu Śikhi
Rāśi × 4
Kuja Śaśi Ravi Guru Budha Śani R×12 in no way implicates such a role for Guru. But the R×4 given has Guru in the eighth house. (k) Guru daśa was from 25 December 1909 to 1925. Guru as Lagnapati gave all round prosperity – career began, had good earnings and also laid the foundation of his political career that ultimately made him the President of India. Guru’s own bhukti was up to 12 February 1912 and in this period during September –October 1911 he accompanied Madana Mohana Malaviya in his efforts to collect funds for the Hindu University. Note the position of Guru in rāśi in ninth house Leo. (l) His legal practice flourished during Śani bhukti [12 February 1912 to 24 August 1914] as is indicated by Śani’s position in the seventh of Daśāmśa-Lagna and in the sixth house in Rāśi. (m) Budha bhukti began on 25 August 1914 and continued up to 29 November 1916. Native pursued his M.L and Doctorate in Law quite in conformity with the significations of Karmapati and Vidyākaraka, Budha ideally placed in Lagna in the company of fifthLord Kuja.
