Part A Q1. Differentiate between Data Interpretation and Data Sufficiency. Answer: Data interpretation tests one’s skills in understanding data presented in different forms like bar graphs, tables, charts and bar graphs. Data sufficiency is about working out what is necessary and sufficient data to answer a question which is very different from the usual problem solving questions that are faced. Each data sufficiency question consists of 3 parts namely: the question, statement 1, and statement 2. To determine the solution, one needs to give the combination of the two statements that is necessary and sufficient to arrive at the answer to the question. Thus, Data interpretation tests or requires one to be adept in determining the meaning data whereas data sufficiency questions requires you to determine statements or conditions that are not only necessary but also are required or sufficient to come with a solution to the problem or question. Q2 Explain the process of construction of Pie Chart. Answer: To construct a pie chart, all data values need to be added to come up with the total of the samples/population under study. Each data value is then expressed as a fraction or percentage of the total found above. The next step is to determine the angle sector each data value will take in the pie chart. This is accomplished by multiplying the fraction or percentage found above by 360o. The angle that will be found above for each data value represents the angle it should take in the pie chart. If calculations are done correctly, the sum of fractions for all data values out of the total should be unity (one) or if percentages are used the percentages should add up to 100. The angles for the sectors found should also add up to 360o. To draw the pie chart, one requires to have a pair of compasses and protractor. Using the pair of compasses, a practically suitable circle is drawn. Since angles at the centre of a circle add up to 360o, and our angle sectors added up to 360o, the angle at the centre is divided according to the sector angles.

The pie chart is then labeled accordingly for ease of interpretation. This mainly involved coming up with a key and adding a title to the pie chart. This may also involve other labels of ones choice which may include colours, labeling in the sectors if practically possible, etc. Q3 If the speed of a body and the radius of its circular path are made thrice by what factor the centripetal acceleration will change? Answer: Centripetal acceleration α=v2/r If the speed v is made thrice, new speed v'=3v If the radius is made thrice, new radius r'=3r Thus new acceleration α' =(v')2/r' α'=(3v)2/3r = 9v2/3r =3v2/r α' =3 α Thus the centripetal acceleration changes by a factor of 3.

**Q4 Define average angular acceleration. Answer:
**

Average angular acceleration is the ratio of the change in angular velocity to the time taken by the body to undergo this change.

Q5.In what ratio must rice at Rs 9.30 per Kg be mixed with rice at Rs 10.80 per Kg so that the mixture be worth Rs 10 per Kg? Answer: Let the fraction of the Rs. 9.30 per Kg rice in 1 Kg of the mixture be x, then: The fraction of the Rs. 10.80 per Kg rice in 1 Kg of the mixture is 1-x If the mixture is worth Rs 10 per Kg, then: 9.3x+10.8(1-x) = 10 9.3x + 10.8 -10.8x=10

, and

= 8:7 Q6 .How much water must be added to 60 liters of milk at 11/2 liters for Rs 20 so as to have a mixture worth Rs 10 2/3 a liter? Answer: 60 l milk @ Rs. 20 for 1 l Cost of milk per l = × Rs. 20 =Rs. 40/3 Cost of mixture per l = Rs. 32/3 Quantity of milk to cost Rs. 32/3 = = ÷ × l l

= l

Thus water forms 1- of a litre = l Thus the ratio of milk to water is : = 4:1

Thus the quantity of water to be added to 60 l of milk is × 60 l = 15 l

Part B

**Q1. The average weekly salary per head of the entire staff of a factory consisting of supervisors
**

and the laborers is Rs 60.The average salary per head of the supervisors is Rs 400 and that of the laborers is Rs 56.Given that the number of supervisors is 12.Find the number of laborers in the factory. Answer: Total weekly salary for supervisors =number of supervisors × average salary of supervisor =12×Rs. 400 =Rs. 4800 Let the number of labourers be x, then: Total weekly salary for labourers =number of labourers × average salary of labourer = x ×Rs. 56 =Rs. 56x Average salary for entire staff =Total salaries for supervisors and labourers ÷ Total number of staff Thus,

= Rs. 60

Thus, the number of labourers in the factory is 1020 Q2 : What is the value of X, if X and Y are two distinct integers and their product is 30? (1) X is an odd integer (2) X > Y Answer: Integers (X,Y) whose product is 30 satisfying condition X>Y are: 30, 1

15,2 10,3 6,5 -1, -30 -2, -15 -3, -10 -5, -6 Since X is an odd number, it can take on any of the values 15, -1, -3, and -5 The answer is: Statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are NOT sufficient to answer the question asked, and additional data specific to the problem are needed.
