Here are the 10 poorest provinces in the country based on poverty incidence level.

There are 80 provinces in the Philippines.The list of the poorest provinces in the country was based on the survey conducted by the National Statistical Coordination Board or NSCB. Poverty is still a very serious problem in the Philippines due to numerous reasons. Graft and corruption is one of the main reasons why poverty is a rampant problem in the Philippines. 1.) Sulu Sulu is one of the provinces of Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao or ARMM. It is considered as the poorest province in the Philippines, with a poverty incidence level of 63.2 percent. Its capital is Jolo. 2.) Masbate Masbateis a province in the Bicol region or Region V. Its capital is Masbate City and it registered a poverty incidence level of 62.8 percent making it the 2nd poorest province in the archipelago. 3.) Tawi-Tawi Tawi-Tawi is another province of Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao. This island province is the southernmost province of the Philippines. Its capital is Bongao and the province had registered a 56.5 percent incidence level of poverty. 4.) Ifugao Although Ifugao is famous worldwide for its magnificent Banaue Rice Terraces and attracts thousands of tourists from around the world it remains as one of the poorest provinces in the country. This mountainous province in the Cordillera Administrative Region had a poverty incidence level of 55.6 percent; 5.) Romblon The island province of Romblon in MIMAROPA or Region IV-B is amongst the poorest province s of the Philippines. Although Romblon is the country's leading producer of high-quality it is still one of the poorest provinces with 55.2 percent incidence poverty level. 6.) Maguindanao Maguindanao is another province which is part of the Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao. It is the site of the infamous “Maguindanao Massacre” where scores were murdered in relation to the May 2010 elections. While the ruling families in the province were living a very luxurious life style the province registered a poverty incidence level of 55.1 percent. 7.) Lanao Del Sur

Lanao Del Sur is another province of Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao. It is ranked 7th poorest province in the Philippines with a poverty incidence level of 55 percent. Its capital is Marawi City. 8.) Sultan Kudarat With a poverty incidence level of 54.3 percent, Sultan Kudarat in Region XII or SOCCSKSARGEN region in Mindanao is the 8th poorest province in the country despite the fact that it has the largest grains-processing complex in the country and there are more than 200 ricemills in the province. Its capital is Isulan. 9.) Camiguin The island province of Camiguin in Northern Mindanao region is the 9th poorest Philippine province. It is the 2nd smallest province in terms of area and population and registered a poverty incidence level of 53.1 percent. Its capital is Mambajao. 10.) Camarines Norte The province of Camarines Norte in Bicolandia or Region V is the 10th poorest province with a poverty incidence level of 52.7 percent. The capital of Camarines Norte is Daet.
