Houston native, Angela Alfred Richards, is the daughter of a minister so it is no surprise that Angela's roots are in gospel. With a love for the Lord and a strong passion for music, Richards began singing at a tender age of 8. Following in the footsteps of her father, Reverend Isaac Alfred, Jr., who sang in a quartet, Angela developed her musical talents by singing in local churches, playing the piano, and serving as choir director. So, it’s no wonder that her love for music stretched far beyond church walls. Among her many musical contributions and service to the Houston Community, Angela was commissioned by the National Association of Christian Educators to lead a group of Augustabased churches in a four day workshop which culminated in a gospel concert commemorating the Silver Bluff Baptist Church as the mother church of American Baptist churches. More than a singer and worship leader, Angela was featured in the stage play A Woman’s Worth a Man’s Value. However, her strong vocal talent always brings her back to her first love: singing for the Lord. Angela has sang back up for gospel great Mona Moore and had a guest appearance on Brian Dunlap & Total Praise’s Lift Him Higher album. She knows that her calling has been and will always be praising God for all his blessing. And, Angela has been blessed beyond measure with consistent recognition of her talents. She is a two-time Texas Gospel Music Excellence Award nominee and the 1996 Texas Gospel Music Awards Top Female Vocalist of the Year. On July 10, 2012, Angela Alfred-Richards released her highly anticipated solo album, SO AMAZING, on the Impeccable Music Group label, co-founded by Billy Dorsey—a Stellar and Dove award-winning songwriter and producer. On the release day, SO AMAZING peaked at #72 on iTunes in Christian and Gospel Music with an average customer rating of 4.5 stars. Angela knows the power of praise and is purposed to share this power with all who listen to her music. So Amazing, a compilation of her expression of appreciation to God for His goodness, mercy and forgiveness toward her. Each song is a powerful and personal gift of praise to God Almighty. How long have you been singing? Since I was 8 years old Who is your greatest influence? My father—Reverend Isaac Alfred, Jr. You’re a preacher’s kid, how has that impacted your life choices and music? It has greatly impacted my life to where I have never said when I get older I don’t want to go to church. I’ve always loved following my father and imitating him singing and his way of life which is following Christ. Where did you get your creative inspiration? From my father, he always gives it his all. Why did you release So Amazing? Because my friend presented an offer that I couldn't refuse which was to record me and write for me. This was a desire of my heart to record a single and include my dad, I also had the funds and the time to go into the studio. What has been the biggest obstacle in your music career? The dream killer: fear. What advice do you have for up and coming singers? When you sing for Christ be sure it’s from your heart and not just a show. God blesses what He endorses. You’ll know when it’s your season. Is there anything else you would like to share? Singing is a way for me to share the Good News of Jesus Christ and what He has done in my life. I know that there are some who may not pick up a bible to read God’s Word but they will know about Him through a song and I hope and pray it’s one of mine.
