the effect of balanced and unbalanced forces on the motion of an object.

Plan an investigation to provide evidence that the change in an object’s motion

Engagement (PE):
Tug of war to focus on balanced and unbalanced forces
Break students into two random groups and have them play a game of tug of war.
After one team wins, discuss as a whole group what allowed that team to win.
Ask: Do you think the teams were balanced? What made them unbalanced? What
was the effect of the teams being unbalanced?

Exploration (Math):
Station 1: PHET simulation, with scenarios. Can be done as an independent
exploration.

Station 2: Balancing practice using shapes and numbers on a scale to determine size
of shape based on number; stations of multiple modalities -- online balance

Station 3: Manipulatives: Provide students with a balance beam and various shaped
objects. They will test out different combinations to try to balance the scale.
