Ave Maria/El Choclo

Brief introduction

Callum Morton
Roberto Kuhn
LMN Scotland

How is an LMN in care homes different from a normal concert

Ask students
-Place where it happens -> It is not a venue, can be common room, living room cafeteria (noisy)
-Audience -> not the typical concert goer, dementia, hearing impediments
-What to do then:
1. Adapt to the space
2. Adapt the space to your needs and to your planned activities
3. Face obstacles or incorporate them to the performance

Main difference is the GOAL or OBJECTIVE

Ask students
Its not about your personal performance, its about being able to connect and engage with the audience

In order to make your audience engage you have to:

-Choose repertoire wisely (be flexible and open to arranging)
-Activities: singing, clapping, rhythm exercises, storytelling
-Make them experience your instrument close by, if some of them can play let them
-Communicate with the STAFF and make them participate

Wild Mountain Thyme

Difficulties (double edged swords)

1. Staff indifference/staff participation

2. Audience Alienation/audience integration
3. Residents health (dementia, hearing impediments)/Musical therapy

Final Thoughts

-Most challenging and most rewarding experiences for musicians

-Possibly it’s the highlight of their week or month so make it a good one!
