How to Apply Additional

Eccentricity in SAP 2000

Create a symmetric model
• 3 bay in both x and y direction.
• 2 story building.
• Use default all material and frames.
• Story Height 3 mm, width in both x and y direction 3 m.
Create floor using shell element
• Use default concrete material.
• Use thickness 120 mm.
• Add to each floor.
Create floor using shell element
• Use default concrete material.
• Use thickness 120 mm.
• Add to each floor.
Create rigid diaphraghm constraint
• Add constraint rigid diaphraghma into each floor.
Create response spectrum
• Create response spectrum function and add to load cases as
well.
Create response spectrum load case
• Create response spectrum function and add to load cases as
well.
Define load pattern – quake static
• Define quake static load pattern for additional eccentricity.
Add Mz due to quake forces
• Compute manually equivalent lateral forces in each floor.
Say it was 200 kN. (FTot = W * 9.8 * I / R).
• Find minimum eccentricity in x-direction should be
considered from code. Say it was 0.1 m (EccX = 0.1 m).
• Calculate the Mz = 200 * 0.1 = 20 kNm.
• Apply Mz to user load.
Add Mz due to quake forces
• Select Modify Lateral Load Pattern
Add Mz due to quake forces
• Select apply to center mass. Add Mz on each floor. Note :
Mz value for each floor will be different.
Combine RSX with AddEcc
• Use load combination to combine RSX and AddEcc.
