that on
March 21,2413, Anorney
General
Eric
H. Holder,
Jr.
approved the establishment
of
a
formal
Lesbian, Gay. Bisexual,
and
Transgender
(LGBT)
 Special
Emphasis
Program in
the Justice
Management
Division (JMD)
and
Department
oi
Justice
(DOJ)
Bureau Equal Emplo1'ment
Opportuniq'(EEO)
Offices
The
formal
designation
of
a
LGBT
Special Emphasis Program
will
help
to
in-siirudonalize
progrurm
activities
that
are
currently in
place
to
support
the
recruitment, retention,
and
development
of LGBT
employees,
and
will
complement
existing
Special
Emphasis Programs,
which
are
designed to
further
develop
a
diverse
and
talented DOJ
workforce.This
internal
policy
change
is
effective immediately
and
will
be
incorporated
into DOJ
Order
1200.1,
Chapter
4-1
(EEO Program) in the
near
future.
The program
will
be supported using
existing
resources. The
JMD
EEO Staft'and DOJ Bureau
EEO Offices
u'ill
w'ork
to
ensure
program
recognition
and
continued support
for
existin-e
activities including.
an
annual
LGBT
special
observance
event
in
June,
outreach
and arvareness events. and
professional development
seminars.
DOJ Component EEO
offices
will
also
collaborate
with
DOJ Component Human
Resources
Offrces
as
appropriate,
and engage
DOJ Pride,
the
Department's
LGBT
emplo,vee
affinity
group,
in
Department-wide
efforts
to
support the employment
of
this important
segment
of
the
Department's workforce.
Managers
and
Supervisors may
seek
advice
from their
respective Component
EEO Officers, or
the Department,
for information
regarding the
LGBT
Special Emphasis Program.
