criminal complaint
is based
on
these
facts:
On
February
8,
2013, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Special
Agents from the Office of the Assistant
Special
Agent
in
Charge Eagle
Pass,
Texas, arrested Marisol VALDEZ for attempting
to
smuggle 25.72 kilograms
of
heroin into the United States from Mexico through Eagle Pass
Port
of
Entry, Bridge #
1.
VALDEZ was
the driver
and
sole occupant
of
a
2008 Nissan Rogue bearing Illinois license plate number R609378. Subsequent inspection
of
the vehicle revealed 42 packages, which field tested positive
for
heroin, smuggled
in
3
non-factory compartments
located
in
the rocker panels, rear tire well, and hatch area
of
the vehicle. Assistant United States Attorney Matthew Watters was contacted
via
telephone
and
accepted Federal Prosecution
on
the
case.
