NOTFORPROFIT

If you don’t know the term gentrification you probably know the less dirty terms of regeneration or urban renewal. Putting aside the different labels, gentrfication is commonly known as the buying and renovation of buildings in low-income areas and improvement of the overall appearnce, thus attracting those with higher incomes which in turn leads to the displacement of the already occupying demographic. My main focus is the gentrification of social housing (or as the councils so kindly put it: ‘the regeneration of estates to produce vibrant mixed communities’).The way in which councils pussyfoot around their intent by drawing up ths utopian world of flowers and rainbows can be insulting to the people whoalready live in those areas.
