RE: Request for Attorney General Opinion Mr. Caldwell As Mayor
of
the City
of
Marksville, I am requesting an Attorney General's Opinion concerning the following issue: The City
of
Marksville has a police force that issues tickets within the city limits. The Louisiana State Police also issues tickets within the city limits
of
Marksville. We have reason to believe that the Ward 2 Marshal is issuing tickets inside the city limits without consent or approval
of
the Marksville City Council. We understand why the State Police can issue tickets without the approval
of
the Marksville City Council, but we are asking
if
the Ward 2 Marshal has the authority to issue tickets within the city limits without the approval
of
the Marksville City Council? Furthermore, it is our understanding that the Ward Marshal may be issuing tickets while driving an unmarked vehicle. Can someone in an unmarked vehicle issue tickets? Page 1
