This is a disgrace. You don't deserve in fact toassociate with the great scholars in Israel. This may not be legaland I understand your 501 status will be challenged legally. I willcertainly do all I can to support that and encourage others to as well.Shame on you.Like · Reply · 232 · December 16 at 10:51am 32 Replies
Congrats! You now officially support bigotry anddiscrimination against innocent professors due to theirnationality/ethnicity! And you now discriminate against the most free, diverse universities in that entire region of Earth. ASA is now a racistpolitical organization, not an academic organization.Like · Reply · 80 · December 16 at 12:10pm

It's not a blanket boycott, people. It's onlyboycotting those Israeli institutions complicit in an occupationthat the international community widely recognizes as illegal.Stand with us on the right side of history. It's what's best forPalestinians, Jews, and everyone else worldwide.Like · 2 · December 17 at 12:07pm
"Only boycotting those Israeli institutionscomplicit in an occupation. . . " What occupation are yourreferring to? West Bank is administered by the PA who is openlyglorifying and encouraging children to be shahids! Should theseterrorists be allowed to administer their own security? How isany of this good for Palestinians. As usual you are blaming thewrong side. Get rid of the terrorists that have no interest inpeace and then we can talk about something that is good forthe Palestinians, Jews and everyone else in the world.  I am amazed that this organization would choose toparticipate in a boycott of a country that is always in the forefronthuman decency and first in line to provide humanitarian aid when itcomes to catastrophes such as typhoons, earthquakes, etc. Furtherhave you lost sight of the medical care provided to citizens of anenemy state such as Syria during its civil war? You really and truly need to revisit your goals as an organization.Like · Reply · 65 · December 16 at 12:27pm
Paul: do you have any idea as to what youare talking about. The "Syrian" the Israeli military aremedically assisting are elements of the Al-Nusra Front, affiliatedto Al Qaeda. This is a crazy policy, to link Israel in with theSaudi mafia and the extremist right wing nut jobs in the USA. Itwill end in despair. As for 'a country in the forefront of humandecency' try telling that to the parents of children who diedcrying in absolute agony after Israel bombed young children inGaza with white phosphorous bombs or try telling that to theparents of the 14 year old Palestinian refugee shot in the back and killed by an Israeli Army sniper or try telling that to theparents of the 17 year old deaf mute boy who was riddled withbullets by an Israel army woman soldier when he was on hisway to a shop to buy a birthday cake. Maybe you are the onewho needs to revisit your goals as an individual?Like · 6 · December 16 at 1:17pm
I know very well what I am talking about. Ithink you need to revisit the TRUE facts. Take your blinders off Mr. Dowdle and put the Kool Aid down. Also have you stoppedto mourn the innocent Israeli children who have been murderedby the terrorist? My guess is no you have not. Also before you judge by photos, try to discern whether theyhave been photo shopped as the terrorist elements often do.Like · 18 · December 16 at 1:27pm · Edited
Well said, Paul. Please note that in hisscreed, he has conveniently forgotten to mention that Israel hasbeen proffering medical services to victims of the Syrian conflict.on those in the ASA that oppose or wish to abstain!Dear friends and colleagues,We are in the final countdown until the end of voting on theNational Council’s “Proposed Resolution for the Boycott of Israeli Academic Institutions” (voting ends Dec. 15th at11:59PM). Thanks to eight of our former ASA presidents, we have onemore document objecting to the academic boycott to circulate. To hear their objections to the boycott, see here -->http://tinyurl.com/noasaboycott. The National Council continuesto refuse to circulate or post to the ASA’s website alternativeperspectives. Please spread this letter among ASA colleagues(via social media, e-mail, whatever you do) and urge them toreject the resolution. If they remain uncertain, encourage themto register their stance by voting to abstain. A special thanksgoes to our MSU contingent for figuring out that strategy! Again the link to the Letter from ASA PRESIDENTS in Oppositionto Proposed Boycott of Academic Institutions: http://www.scribd.com/.../Letter-from-ASA-Presidents-in...Like · 2 · December 13 at 3:58am
Open Letter to Mae NgaiDear Mae,Thank you for your opposition to Israel’s occupation of Palestine, its aggression, and its treatment of Palestinians. Andthank you for your support of divestment campaigns. All that isgood to hear and all valuable. Nonetheless, we are sorry to hearthat you continue to believe that the boycott resolution “violatesthe principle of academic freedom and free speech.” It doesneither. As has been frequently explained throughout ASAdebates on the resolution, and on many other occasions, theboycott targets institutions not individual academics. Israeliacademics remain free to enjoy all the benefits of academicfreedom: their right to research and publish, to travel, to attendconferences, including the ASA. None of these freedoms areguaranteed to Palestinians, and more often than not they aredenied by Israeli practices, laws and policies. Still less does theboycott deprive anyone of their freedom of speech, thoughPalestinians are regularly imprisoned, batoned, shot with rubberbullets and gas canisters, and even live ammunition, for seekingto claim their rights to speak out against oppression anddispossession. Institutions, however, do not enjoy academic freedom, thoughthey are called upon to protect and further it. What the boycottseeks to do is to persuade all of us to obey our consciences inwithdrawing our consent from any collaboration, material orintellectual, with institutions whose actual complicity in acts of occupation, dispossession, and colonization fare outweighs anyhypothetical restriction on Israeli academic privileges that mightensue from our refusal to collaborate. You ask why this focus on boycott. The principal reason is thatthe great preponderance of Palestinian civil societyorganizations has asked us to honor their call boycott as well asdivestment and sanctions. It is not for us, and not especially forany Israeli scholar or national, however progressive they maybe, to instruct the Palestinians on the proper means and limitsof their struggle. Would you have told the Civil Rights activiststhat they should not boycott buses for fear of alienating thegood white citizens of Alabama? Or the UFW not to boycottgrapes for fear of damaging Californian grocers? Why then seek to limit the parameters of Palestinian struggle in order to protectthe feelings and efforts of the Israeli left? To say this is not tooffer insult or to be divisive. It is merely to state a fundamentalprinciple of all solidarity: we do not instruct the oppressed onhow to fight their fight. With all due respect to Michael Zakim, itis clear enough that decades of well-meaning “dialogue” havechanged nothing and at best offered cover to continuing Israeliexpansion. Now it is time to listen to the Palestinian movementfor justice and honor and endorse the boycott they have calledfor. Signed, David Lloyd, David Palumbo-LiuLike · 2 · December 13 at 11:21am · Edited
